In the end developers should already have a good idea what worked and what didn't and improve on that. You could say the same about starcraft probably, but that's another topic The developers didn’t dispute that point. Only that if they have to include “All the features” from the previous game and its two expansions in the new game. Even if the previous systems didn’t work well or the game has changed.
It is a very funny discussion about game design.

genre labels have their purpose. you have to manage your expectations about what a genre label will give you. its a general 10,000 foot view of the game type. a large enough portion of people spending money on games gravitate towards certain genres so that genre labels get used.
there are 2D-platformer fans. RTS fans, wrestling game fans. with proper genre definitions no one would confuse a 2D-platformer with an RTS or a wrestling game.
what a genre label won't do is answer the question 'is it fun?' a genre label can't get too super specific. So Lode Runner and Super Mario 3 are in the same genre and when you try to distinguish Puzzle-Platformers from Platformers... well u start splitting hairs and these genre definitions become nit-picky and useless.

Many of these multiplayer games have the same design: five players control hero units with special abilities and fight for objectives on a map of limited size. But because the control scheme and perspective are different they become radically different genres. So now we talk about counterstrike and overwatch and dota as if these are all not competing over the same audience, and one is an fps and the other an rts etc.
Atlas is hardly less different from dota than overwatch and counterstrike, but nobody ever accuses those games of copycatting (ofc that'd be ridiculous).

Are you seriously saying that Counter-Strike and DotA2 share the same "target audience"? Or implying that control schemes and perspectives aren't vastly important for the feel of a game?
I get that genres can be misleading, but they are a necessary evil. Especially if the alternative is to throw DotA and Counter-Strike into the same pot.
Atlas will probably be more MOBA than traditional RTS by peoples' standards, but it will also not play like your typical MOBA.

Looks like game will have lots of opportunities for micro and tactical maneuvers. Loving it! UI looks good as well.

Yeah, flow and movement seem nice and fluid, UI seems very nice !
can't read the word at the right of prod in the low right corner ?

RSRC, presumably for "research".
Edit: Oops sorry, thought you said left.

Thx guys, it was Queue ^^

This gif totally seems a more interesting one! There is a kind of split, and also something like hellions... It's not bad. Just resist 19 more hours!

I am just happy to play with more people. Alpha was really quiet for me due to timezone problems; hoping for more awesome rounds! It's really fun.

I’m kinda into the little dudes with the leaf heads and pew pew guns. They are sort of adorable. The sound effects for these units are going to be critical when it comes to endearing them to me.

Oh KeksX you are raising an interesting point, do we know if the alpha will have EU server ?
I just realize that if it's all US, we will have a lot of ping

i wonder how the matchmaker will prioritize ping to server with this being a micro-intense game. if there is a matchmaker, that is.

Atimo, your questions is threatening my joy... Hope it will not be impossible to play for europeans =(

Atlas will probably be more MOBA than traditional RTS by peoples' standards, but it will also not play like your typical MOBA. No offense, but duh, of course they have almost exactly the same target audience. It is like feigning amazement at an overlap in fanbase of thrash and power metal, because of the supposed myriad distinctions metal fans can discover between those genres. Pls dont blind yourself by putting too much faith in genre distinctions. Dota, cs, lol, overwatch, they are all variations on the same game. Wow, one is third person and the other first person, such difference, much diversity.

Are you trolling? I'm honestly not sure.
