Basicly this is a standalone expansion for the Red Orchestra 2 game which takes place in the Pacific campaign of 1941-45. This involves close quarters fighting in the jungle, beach assaults and fighting on famous places like Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Saipan.
I highly enjoyed Red Orchestra 2 cause of its realism, the game mechanics were perfect and spot on but they have taken it to a another level with this game. Its higher production value, graphics are awesome, maps are bigger and the gameplay is even more cooler than ever before.
This is THE game PC users have been wanting basicly, and thats why im creating this thread as well as its need all its attention it can get. People playing Battlefield 3 can just uninstall right away, this game puts you into war as you never experience before. The feel of lining up a shot in this game is amazing, it doesnt require you to unload a full magazine to kill a person either. There is also the best cover mechanics ive seen in a fps as well, you can take cover next to any sandbag, wall or obstacle you come across and its beatifully done.
Well enough chat, take a look!
Its available for play immediatly (Beta) if you preorder. If you have Red Orchestra 2 from before you get a huge discount.
Game came out yesterday and they merged the Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm clients. So if you only have RO2, you can play Rising Storm (as rifleman with bolt-action only). Servers can also have both RO2 and RS maps in their rotation, definitely cool. I was afraid that this game would fragment an already small community; instead, it reinvigorated the community by like 500%.
I've been having a lot of fun so far. Definitely captures the same intense feeling that you get from war movies and HBO's The Pacific. I like it a lot more than RO2 so far. Great maps which seem to be balanced so far. RS demonstrates the difference between the Axis and Allies a lot more than RO2 did (for the sake of balance I suppose, being thrown at the enemy with little equipment doesn't seem like much fun). Japan's weapons are awful compared to America, but they have cool tools like booby traps, knee mortars, and the banzai charge.
Yeah. If you own RO2, definitely go and check it out. If you're a military buff or love tactical shooters, definitely check it out.
I thought RO2 was amazing, but to be honest it was exhausting to play. Its the only game that beats Starcraft in the amount of concentration required to play it. I could never play it for more than a couple of hours before needing to stop for a day or two. This looks amazing too though.
Played the beta a bit and it seemed pretty good. Gave a good sense of urgency and importance of cover and tactics while punishing you for trying to play as if it were a more arcardish style FPS. What ultimately brings me down is the fact that they made it so you can't turn of the retarded walking/running shake. I know how it feels to run, I don't need the game to show me that for the sake of realism if I can't also turn it off. It makes me fucking nauseous.
If that doesn't make you sick it should be a pretty cool game to pick up. Definitely different to most other games in the genre currently.

Yeah, I get what you mean. RO2 is one of my favorite recent games, but I have relatively few hours put into it compared to the rest of my game library. It's almost impossible to just relax and play like you can in TF2 or even Quake pubbing because camouflage is so damn effective and not thinking for just a few seconds can quickly lead to death.
That said, you can play "dumb" as Japan since you can suicide bomb and banzai charge just for laughs and still contribute to the game. Axis doesn't lose reinforcements if a grenade explodes in your hand and you kill someone in the process; had tons of fun just releasing the grenade's handle and running circles around enemy soldiers and exploding. Banzai charge is so good too. I banzai charged with an officer and saw him take like 8 .45 ACP rounds total and still live to kill the guy shooting at him, haha.
Great timing on the release, summer break and enjoying it after taking a long hiatus from RO2. I went back to Darkest Hour and Ostfront because I personally felt as one of the few hardcore fans of the series that it really didn't live up to the original. But Rising Storm is great, although still a few annoying glitches with the Unreal 3 Engine such as clipping.
I'm already tired of people complaining about the flamethrower being OP, but its a weapon of mass destruction on maps like Saipan or Guadalcanal.
The op is written exactly like an advertisement. All sensationalist buzz words instead of actual content or simply just describing how the game plays and WHAT makes it good.
Uninstall BF3 (a completely differerent style of game)? This is the game PC users have been wanting? All of them? Really?
RO2 left a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths, so much hype and promise yet a pretty big let down that left the community in shambles. I really wanted to like RO2 on launch but it was just so broken and buggy. Right now its waaaaay better than launch day, but they backed down on a lot of what they promised to do. We still only have 2 vehicles. The maps are finally starting to get better. In addition Rising Storm was promised to be free for RO2 users, instead of they made it free but only using rifleman class and NO leveling up (no bayonet for you good sir). The engine is still pretty rough around the edges as far as performance goes (at least its leagues better than release day though).
I gave them money for RO2. I'm not giving them money for this one.
If you are interested in rising storm, the game pace is much quicker compared to RO2. Less methodical, smaller, and more linear style maps. It is a pretty big contrast from the wide expanses of RO2 maps. Fights are quicker and dirtier, but at the same time more straight forward. Don't get me wrong though, this is still RO. Staying in cover, staying low, and moving fast from cover point to cover point is still extremely important.
Well i have played this game alot in the last couple of days and i have to say it is completely awesome. All the bugs from the original release have been fixed, and i really enjoy the asymmetrical design. I love playing as the Japanese: bolts and banzai charges destroy!
Although there doesn't seem like many changes, the game actually feels completely different from RO2. The basic concepts are the same, but there's a much better atmosphere IMHO.
I would love for us to get a little community going on this one, but it doesn't really seem as though that many people are interested
The best part of Rising Storm is all the improvements that went into the basic game. Many (but not all) of the problems I addressed in one of my only blog posts have been fixed: blog, Performance has been drastically improved, lots of new maps have been added, and an AWESOME new mode, Multiplayer Campaign, has been added. Multiplayer Campaigns are like Galactic Conquest from Battlefront. There's an overworld map split half-and-half between the Russians and Germans, and you must win matches to push the front lines on the overworld map.
I think the Pacific content is a little underwhelming, but it might just be me. I suck pretty bad at it, it almost feels like a totally different game on some maps.
