Has a Diablo/Torchlight like feel to it with 5 different heroes who's each has their own deck of cards for abilities that acts kind of like a cool down timer (play the card, can't play it again until you draw another copy or go thru the whole deck and reshuffle). White, Green and Purple level loot. Different kinds of mobs and traps. When you level up you can switch out some of the cards in your deck for more powerful abilities. Completely co-op, has miniatures for the monsters and heroes, and promises of future expansions along with a bunch of stretch goal additions of course:
Well if your going to copy someone, might as well be someone popular. The art actually reminds me more of Torchlight 2, but of course that was inspired by Diablo too.
They took Blizzard, and DnD, and put them together... to get a DnD style game, played like Diablo, fighting against monster of the Blizzard franchises (for instance... the Hydralisk... seriously the EXACT same shape..but with more arms as if to say "this isnt a hydralisk..look at the arms)
but Orcs and Undead were stolen from other universes/creations of people before them...
so even stealing from blizzard is actually stealing from people multi generations ago...
What I like is the card based power system for each hero with unique mechanics for each, random quests, random treasures, and being completely co-op. Pretty much every fantasy game or movie has similar creatures so that doesn't really matter to me. Being able to play a D&D style game without having to have a dungeon master is nice sometimes.
Not to sound cynical or anything, but mini heavy kick starters like this appeal to me even more because I'm a 4e dm. I mean the game sounds kinda Bleh, and probably has been executed better elsewhere, and I'd almost be willing to accept that gamble for 100 dollars paying for close to 50 painted minis of a cool art scheme (at the higher KS levels) and assorted square battle maps. That was partially my rationale in getting a couple of the Ravenloft board game lines and my group ended up enjoying those too.
Yeah I own Super Dungeon Explore, but it requires a player to play all the monsters. Same with Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Which is fun at times, but the quality of the game depends a whole lot on the skill of the player controlling the monsters.
The Ravenloft/Ashardalon/Drizzt board games are all full co-op, but the monster AI is simpler and the different classes aren't quite as unique in mechanics.
Mage Knight Board Game is the most strategic, but it's also so complicated that it is a bear to teach others and four player just takes too long to play. Even two player is pretty long especially for new players. It does have rules for both co-op and competitive play though.
Is this one of those heavy games that might take a year to finish, or one of those that can be enjoyed with non hardcore gamers over a couple of hours?
A complete game in Myth is called a Story. Each Story is played over three Acts. Acts can be played sequentially, or can be split up over three different game sessions. Each Act lasts 2 hours.
Myth setup offers players the freedom to experiment and create the Story they want. Each Act is created by placing the double-sided World Tiles in any configuration desired, then each tile is populated through random card draws (or by choice). Enemy-types, quests, treasure, merchants, and events are all variables controlled by players. Each Story is unique and breathed to life by the players.
Myth is a fully cooperative game. There is no player controlling the Darkness. The Darkness is governed by a set of rules unique to each Boss Deck. Yet, the Darkness is activated through Hero actions. If the Heroes get overzealous, then the Darkness pushes back by activating Lairs, spawning Captains, and punishing the Heroes with devious Events. If the Heroes take a more subtle approach, then the Darkness reacts by reducing the potential for treasure and rewards. Without the treasures and equipment to upgrade, the Heroes will find each Act more difficult and eventually fail. The dynamic nature of the Darkness really lends a more fluid feel to the Story. Players aren't being driven by properties out of their control, nor are they being shepherded by a person whose skill has a direct impact on the enjoyment of the game.
I must say it looks pretty bad and bland. I really don't like games where you could simply skip it all together, roll a gazillion dice and see who got the best results. Talisman is a great example here, the game is so random that it gets stale pretty quickly, and despite the different board etc. the game is pretty much the same: explore, acquire gear and wealth, improve stats, fight monsters.
It was fun when I was 10, now it's incredibly boring.
the 200k stretch goal just got unlocked earlier today. The kickstarter was initially for 40k, so there is already plenty of extra gear included. They are going to announce further stretch goals today, as the highest once so far is at only 275k. I guess I'm going to pledge in the next couple of days, haven't made up my mind however if I'll go for the 100 or 150 dollar one.
and about the 'dumbed down' part: I think it also has its merit:
a) I love my epic games of Mage Knight and Twilight Imperium, but I play those two with serious gamers, any session is pretty draining, and I need almost two hours afterwards to wind down mentally before I can go to sleep, so something not overly complicated on a Friday evening would be nice for a change.
b) It's co-op AND it's more accessible, so this is something I _might_ be able to get my girlfriend into
And please tell me someone on this forum has played this amazing game at some point in their life? Dwarven bomb throwers plus those physics!
I clicked this thread just because I read "myth" and am disappointed (as usual) that that venerated name is being used by something with marginal appeal. XD
I always wonder what would happen if Myth:TFL or Myth 2 existed more in the time of esports, sigh...
This board game is more remarkable for the concept of the experience than the game itself I think. Kind of cool, not really what I'm in to. I just don't understand co-op'ing without action.

Total is up to $233,081 with 7 days left, unlocking the Elemental minions stretch goal. New stretch goals have been added along with new add-on purchases+ Show Spoiler +

Seriously. Yeah I have the game CDs. (Never played myth 3, too much bad rep.) I play the campaigns every couple years and it still moves me.
about to hit the 325k stretch goal tonight, and they just announced the stretch goals up to 500k.
What I find very interesting: I scrolled through the list of backers and did not see a single one that only backed this kickstarter, almost everyone had dozens of projects backed, some even several hundred.
I'm going to back as well, for me it's going to be the 2nd backing ever.
Total is up to $550k with 19 hours to go and more stretch goals have been added. The $100 captain level will likely resell for double that on ebay after the fact with all the stretch goal bonuses and kickstarter exclusives.
Yes, I am considering getting double "captain" level pledges, for double the stretch goals. It seems likely I could sell the extra copy on ebay with the stretch goal bonus stuff for $200 or more and pay for both of them that way.
Oh and they just announced a new mini-boss added for all pledges of $75 or more:
So, this is the first time i want to back something on kickstarter, is there any way of doing this if i don't have a credit card, or is this one of those stupid USA things where you have to have one or you can't take part? I got a perfectly fine paypal account, and an amazon account for which i so far also never needed a credit card, but i don't see any way to use them here. Is this just impossible?
I'm not sure, I pledged thru amazon, but have a credit card attached to my account there. I posted the question on the Myth forums at boardgamegeek.com and I'm sure someone there will know or you can try contacting MERC directly from the contact me link on the kickstarter page and asking them.

If push comes to shove, let me know, and I'll pledge an extra captain or whatever you want and you do a money transfer to me later.
Like the guy some posts above, I can't see the whole kickstarter thing not fetching more on ebay soonish, so in the worst case, you wouldn't pay me for it, and I'd keep it sealed in mint condition to sell.
While I'm sure you will get more out of your box on ebay after the kickstarter, I wouldn't be too eager to spend all my food money on it. There is a good chance you're not the only one thinking it, and it wont be worth much more if there is another 100 games out there trying to get sold.
So, if i understand the guy in that thread correctly, i basically need someone to pledge 1$ for me, and i could then increase that amount with paypal. Can anyone confirm if that is actually how things work? Because this way noone would have to risk 100$ on someone else's honesty.
If this is correct, would someone be willing to pledge 1$ with an account i made on kickstarter? I could either pay you back with paypal or give you some steam game for that, i got a few cheap ones still lying around from some holiday sale.
don't worry, it's not food money, and even if the ebay thing fails, I know my share of gamers, and if even that fails, my godchild will be happy about it
and thinking about it, it would probably be even cheaper to order in bulk for Germans, as the whole package should just get 13 dollars slapped on top once, not for every core game included. And a parcel within germany should be less than that, or people close by could just pick it up themselves.
Well, yes, but sorry to say that, i won't send anyone 100$ up front based on what they say in a forum. Which is how this would have to be solved reasonably. But as i posted before, if that guy is correct i would just need someone to pledge 1$ for me.

If you do a bank transfer, you can take it back via roughly three clicks in your online banking, should I decide not to transfer the goods. So the good faith would be on my part, not on yours. But I do have your adress, if I sent the parcel off!
edit: going to bed now, let me know if you want me to order one extra copy for you via pm. If it helps in any way, I could probably get one of the mods here to vouch for me.
I'm not sure if pledging $1 and then being able to use paypay is correct or not, I would recommend trying to contact MERC miniatures directly to confirm. I read some one else say that there is a minimum amount that is required to be pledged in order to have access to the pledge manager after it ends. But that is from an unofficial source as well. I tried asking on the kickstarter comments section and someone replied that there will be a paypal option AFTER the kickstarter ends, but they didn't say if that option will just be to buy the game retail, or if that will also qualify for the stretch goals, and they were not an official source either. And so many people are posting so fast that the question will probably get lost in the flood.
Other option would be to find a real life friend or relative who has a credit card and pay them up front to buy it for you.
Sorry, Kickstarter only supports credit card payments.
Can I pledge with Paypal?
We support most major credit cards, but we do not support payment with Paypal at this time.
That being said I know other kickstarter projects like Project Eternity have had separate paypal options, but it seems up to each company running a kickstarter to set that up or not separate from the kickstarter project.
Total is up to $645k now and growing with 13 hours left, and 700k+ looks fairly realistic, though I will be surprised if it reaches 800k. Still I was going to be happy with the stretch goals from $275k so everything is gravy at this point. Still deciding on what add ons I want though, if any. The Spriggan (druid) hero, Skald (bard) hero, agents of darkness, elemental boss, treasure deck expansion and quest deck expansion are what I am considering, but not sure how much I want to spend on add ons before I play the game and the value for the addons is considerably less than the value of the captain or apprentice level pledges with stretch goal bonuses.
Edit: 650k just reached and torchbearer ally unlocked.
I just don't understand that. Don't they want my money? Half the world doesn't have credit cards, why make stuff uselessly complicated for no reason whatsoever. Or is it that complicated to implement paypal in your payment options?
And the 1$ thing is probably bullshit if i understand what you wrote correctly. Meh. Why does stuff have to be complicated when it could be so easy? I have the money, they want the money, they have the product. I have a payment method that works for stuff in my country, and one that works on the internet. I can even easily buy stuff off of amazon.de, and they are using some amazon payment for this. Yet i still can't spend my money on this. This is incredibly annoying. If you do anything online, try to allow as many payment methods as possible. This should be pure common sense.
Yeah I understand your frustration, and don't know why they haven't implemented pay pal yet. Seems like a logical thing to do. If I find an official answer I will let you know, but contacting them directly would probably be your best bet as I'm sure someone else must have asked the question but it's not in their Myth FAQ
I don't think that Mercs has set a minimum pledge to get into the pledge manager after the campaign. As for what the pledge manager will use once it is released again nothing concrete just the assumption of paypal. You probably want to send Mercs a message via the contact me link. Its that or have your friends friend pledge the full amount on the card and have your friend send the other person the money via paypal.
I also tried to ask if you could buy a VISA or some other accepted credit card gift card and use that to pay, and someone said yes, but no official answer there either. In the US you can get them at grocery stores, drug stores, walmart and various other retailers.
MERC has been great with communication over the process of the kickstarter, but I'm sure they are getting flooded with questions at the deadline.
Apparently the only thing i had to do was ask them on kickstarter, and now i should be able to get added to that mysterious post-pledge manager where you can pay using paypal after the kickstarter ends.
cool glad they got you sorted out. Pledges up to $691,536 and climbing with 11 hours to go. Looks like the 700k Cyclops boss is likely to be reached now
I could not really make up my mind what level to pledge and was thus watching the ratio of backers. For most of the time captain/apprentice was 2/1, in the last 12 hours or so it has totally shifted towards captain, now almost at 3/1.

Why did it shift towards captain? You still get more at the apprentice lvl
my guess is that captain is closer to the sweet spot for running double lairs (it has enough, only missing a handful of rats and something else, while apprentice has too many), and the 50$ extra give you some nice optional purchases.
I think they'll be needing more stretch goals. Looks like we'll reach 800k within the next hour, leaving 4 hours to go edit: Thats 800k with 3 hours to go

I think lots of people decided to get two captain levels for double stretch goal rewards, which ends up being a lot more stuff than apprentice.
I'm pretty surprised they hit 800k overnight with time to spare.
They also added the option to buy the Slaughterfield supplement which they explain as follows:
"And they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was upon them." - Tolkien, The Ride of the Rohirrim
Our last update (maybe, we promise), is the Slaughterfield Supplement Pack. It contains three separate Slaughterfield Decks. These decks can only be used with the Slaughterfield game mode.
The first deck is a 10 card Random Spawn Generator. This allows you to have a completely random game every time. Each session of Slaughterfield consists of 10 waves of terror. The Heroes task is only to survive as long as they can and take as many of them with you as possible. Traps can be turned against the Darkness, but to separate from the rest of the group is certain death.
The second deck is a 15 card Slaughterfield Items deck. These items can only be used in Slaughterfield, but every treasure pick-up is guaranteed to be a good one. This deck greatly increases the survivability past Wave 5.
The third deck is a 15 card Slaughterfield Achievement Deck. This deck contains tasks for the Heroes. These tasks are dealt randomly to each player and are kept secret until turned in for a reward or at the end to supplement victory points awarded for kills and waves survived.
Could be, but I didn't think they would go up a $100k while I was sleeping either when they hit $700k last night @ around 11 pm. Hopefully a lot of last minute backers jump in and some people add some extra stuff to their pledge. I added another captain to sell, or worse case give as a gift later.
MERC said: Just in case you thought we would go quietly into the night...
We'll continue to put out updates as we move ahead. Nothing crazy like during the KS, but often enough you'll know what is going on. I'll have an update later this week about the surveys and the pledge manager.
We'll continue to put up finished art and videos (we owe you a Boss fight, after all).
In the meantime, just got these images while at lunch. It is tough to eat when you can't stop giggling.
the amount of comments is just insane. I checked some other project (an indie movie project) with over 500k pledged, and it had a couple of hundred comments, myst is closing in on 20k.
Does anyone with prior experience with tabletop games on kickstarter know about how long it usually takes until it actually ships? I'm going to presume its going to take a while considering all the miniatures and cards that still have to be made.
The estimated ship date for Myth is January 2014, but it really varies based on the company running the kickstarter. Some kickstarter's get delayed significantly, and occasionally they deliver early. Kickstarter is just the funding tool, the company running the Kickstarter is responsible for holding up their end of the bargain. MERC has been pretty good at sending out updates so I am sure they will give out more specific times as we get closer to January.

If anyone missed out on the kickstarter and is still interested there is another opportunity still:
Many of you have messaged, emailed, and posted to us saying you have missed the Kickstarter and want to support this game. We have said you would have an opportunity to pledge and now is your chance.
User registration for additional backers is enabled. Please go to www.mythboardgame.com and click "Create New Account" and enter a username and email address. You will receive an email noting the account is created at this. The account is unverified at that point. We have to approve it. No one will be denied, but this will take time so don't expect something back instantaneously. From there, you will another email with a log in link and the process should be about the same as it is for anyone else at this point.
Once you get the login link, follow these directions.
1. REQUEST A PASSWORD. You will find a link of the same name in the orange box welcoming you to the page. Click the link. It will takes you to a page that has a "User account" header and a space to input an email address.
2. LOG IN. The email you receive provides you with a one-time use link. Don't worry. You will be setting up a new password once you log in. If for some reason there is an issue, you can request another password.

We've been busy! We apologize for our longer than normal absence.
Here is an update. I wrote a nice large update, but I guess KS thought I was taking too long and deleted it, so you get the much more abridged version.
Pledge Manager (PM)
3898 (72.7%) of original backers finalized their order (72.7%) 835 (15.6%) of original backers have not logged in 627 (11.7%) of original backers have logged in but not finalized their order
Not bad for three weeks left to go. The only group we are worried about, and taking a great deal of our time, is the 15% who have never logged on. We think these people either didn't receive the initial message from KS or are a little nervous about using the PM. We have a second focused email being sent shortly with step-by-step instructions and an out for those that are still reticent to use the PM.
We have added 64 NEW backers through the open enrollment. I understand some of you have strong feelings about the PM being opened. I hope you realize it is not our intent to "devalue" the KS. Over half of the 64 added were people who reached out to me during the KS in search of a solution: Germans needing to pay through PayPal, BGG contest winners who wanted to pledge but had already won a copy of the game. We had good reasons to help those people and found a way. We hope you understand. These are people who wanted to back during the KS, but couldn't for some reason.
Production
All the base game sculpts are finished and starting production. The stretch goals and additional purchases are in the sculpting process now.
On the printing side, we've agreed on the quote and have started the process of lining up all the little things that go along with printing in China: a schedule, logistics and delivery. Once these things are hammered out, we can move forward with art submission.
Hold on to your butts, but we believe we can deliver the base game and certain other elements (t-shirts) early. We intend to do everything in our power to make this a reality. We are pushing hard to have production copies of the game into our warehouse in November. The stretch goals and add-ons will still be in January. No additional shipping cost will be charged to you. We'll continue to update you on the possibilities of an early delivery. We are not saying that a November delivery is a 100% certainty. It is a company goal.
To that end, we are going to supply all backers with a pdf of the core game rules the second week of June. The core rules only communicate game mechanics. It does not delve into the setting up of tiles, how to deal with quests, or the provide any lore. Those sections will come later. Our goal is simple, get as much feedback as we can before we submit the rules to the printer. Less confusion, Less FAQs.
The pdf will be simple text. It won't have images or diagrams. However, the design is in progress. There are a couple samples below. We use sample elements from the Acolyte in the Archer, for example. These are very much a work-in-progress (the design is unfinished and using unedited text), but it gives you an idea of where we are going.
Keith has also been working on card art. A sample is below. He provided this to us a couple weeks ago. He is further long by now; we'll be getting together this weekend for a bit of show and tell. You might or might not be able to see the images well. We are really pleased with them. I can't wait to see the finished elements this weekend.
Kenny has been working on the Slaughterfield Supplement Pack. We should have a video of a full Slaughterfield session in June.
I (Brian) am working on quest text. We have a fine mix of combat and non-combat quests. All the text is highly flavored. Here is a sample (once again, unedited):
Introduction: In the clear quiet of the morning, they started arriving. Battered and broken, people appeared, crying and carrying their beloved. With blank stares the refugees whispered that the Darkness had come, made manifest in the might of a single legendary foe. Everyone looks to you to make things right. To find out what attacked these poor people and to discover if it is heading this way.
Resolution: Never could you have imagined such a fearsome adversary. What could this mean? Certainly, the locals will be glad to hear the enemy is defeated, and cheer your name. Fame, isn't that what you've always wanted. To earn fame and to be called a Hero. Yet, only one thought runs through your head: if something like that exists, what else waits in the Darkness for fools who would call themselves Heroes?
Anyway, we've been working. Updates will continue to be slower through the pledge manager's end. Then they can pick up again. We'll have all kinds of pics and videos in June.
I apologize for errors. I am still a bit miffed that I had to write it twice.
Love this! I dont care what it was inspired by or ripped off of, just get this out so i can give you guys my money! Great stuff, Hurry up with the finished game, we want to play!
If you haven't already given them your money and plan on getting the game, I highly suggest you jump in on the kickstarter for a much better value for the money spent. They are taking additional pledges thru 6/17. You will also get the game earlier than retail.

The inital version of the rule book has been posted:
MYTH Kickstarter Rules Update #69 · Jun 12, 2013 · 26 comments As promised to you backers, here are the core game rules for MYTH. It does not have images or diagrams yet. It is pure text to communicate the game mechanics.
Feedback is welcome. However before you send comments, please follow the guidelines below:
Guidelines
Constructive comments only please.
Saying things like "I don't understand this," or "This doesn't make sense to me," isn't very helpful to the team. Explain as clearly as you can and give specific examples.
If you have the capacity, please markup the PDF with comments in the document. Send back your file with comments, and add your name or initials to the file name (IE Myth_Kickstarter_Rules_Ted.pdf). This will help us keep track of files and ensure comments aren't overwritten.
If you aren't able to make comments in a PDF, you can still send them written in an email or word document.
If you submit feedback in an email or doc format, make sure your comments has some kind of reference to the original document. List the page number, paragraph, and the original sentence.
Expansion kickstarter is ending in an hour. For $120 you get 182 miniatures and over 90 unique sculpts
The models were great from the original kickstarter, but the original rules were terribly vague and poorly written. They have released a new rules set though with updated cards for all the original stuff which will be sent if you pledge as little as $6.
Did you get a chance to playtest the new ruleset? I've heard mixed to apathetic things about it thus far and was hoping for some thoughts.
This game at the 40-50$ price point one frequently sees on CoolStuffInc really appeals to me, but if 2.0 fails to clean up the clunkiness I don't know if it'll be worth grabbing.
Edit: durr... misunderstood the shipping options... got it now.
