Now that the hype has died down and (most of) the bugs have been fixed, I decided to finally play this game.
I was ready to be severely disappointed but ended up rather enjoying the ride.

The positives:
- The city. I have no words for what they managed to do here, it’s just so lively, so real, so big, there’s zero copy paste anywhere.
- Lots of interesting characters. The relationship with Johnny is really good, Panam et Judy are a breath of fresh air to name the most standout but there are a lot.
- Overall production value. The game sweats money, it’s insane. Voice acting and motion capture is the best I’ve seen in a video game.

The negatives:
- Combat sucks and driving is a disgrace.
- Overall story takes a step back and doesn’t grab you as hard as it could.
- Barely an RPG anymore. Very, very few choices have any consequences.

All in all, I’m glad I gave it a chance.

This is a good review. While I have nothing whatsoever to do with this game, I'm just glad you gave it an honest playthrough before saying anything. What platform are you playing on? I play on PC since release and I tried the next gen update with PS5.

Can you expand on what you didn't like about the combat? I am curious because I find combat is one of the strongest points for CP77. I have done 3 playthroughs with different builds and combat was just wicked fun every time.

I hated driving on PC too but founds on PS5 it was quiet nice once I got used to the controller.

And yeah the city is NUTS. I was blown away so many times by amazing locations I saw for the first time even on the 3rd playthrough. I hope I can score a 40series RTX for the coming CP77 addon to replay in full glory on PC again.

Playing on PC with K+M for everything except driving where I would pick the controller (good thing the transition is seamless!). Controller + motorcycle made the driving almost bearable but still, for a game with this budget, I don't know how it passed QA... That's too bad because the city is so cool to navigate otherwise.

As far as combat, it's probably personal, I like my RPGs with a strategic layer. I completed the game with a katana / mantis blade build and really, it was just mindless clicking enemies which I find boring.
For reference, I'm a huge fan of isometric RPGS and souls-like games.

Controller on PC is way better for driving. I use my PS5 controller for it and it works surprisingly well. On PS5 driving is much better.

Combat is hit or miss depending on where you are. Some areas it's pretty engaging, some areas it's kinda...meh. But overall, imo, it works really well.

I think a lot of stuff kinda got knee capped with the decision/requirement that it be released on PS4/XBOX1. While I had no issues at all (nothing game breaking) on PC, I can understand the frustration of console players. I'd love to get it on PS5 and give it a thorough playthrough on that to see how it fares.

Yeah they were developing it for so long they didn't want to bail on the money they spent on last gen console development and really should have. The reception might have been poor but not the absolute shit show it turned out for the company.

I want to do a melle only run but the gun play is what most of the areas were built for I think.

So far the rumors (and what they've said) there should be an expansion next year (hope to get a trailer or something this year at some point) and further development. Not sure if we'll get 2 expansions or just the one before they move the sequel to UE5. Either way, I'm fine with the decision. I'll play the shit out of it regardless lol.

I've been doing a stealth run as a street kid and I haven't really invested in the perks for it at all. It's surprisingly fun. Some times you gotta shoot it out though.

The visuals are neat, the main two remind me a lot of deadman wonderland. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

On driving: I heavily recommend fiddling with the settings they introduced. I hated it initially, after lowering the sensitivity to ~70-80% driving was a lot more fun. It's still not great, but then again that goes for pretty much any RPG and open world title I've played.

never played this game when i heard all the negative reviews.. might finally give it a try and when expansion comes out. hopefully they retouch some og things as well.

yeah i'd most likely want to play some expansion thing and probably start a new playthrough for it hopefully it affects the rest of the game in some ways too. Like uh, remove money loopholes, maybe setup merchants limited cash and days going by having some consequence, improve balance and driving something new for the environment mechanics for more sandbox potential w/e.

I'm thinking of giving this another try too, seems like some of the issues I had before might be doing a little better.

Quick question, because I couldn't find it immediately upon googling, is the prologue Skippable? or do I have to do the whole Jackie thing again? I know there are different backgrounds you can choose from (which I assume have different prologues) but just wondering

It's not skippable, no. The tutorials (including the dreaded first BD tutorial) are skippable, but the story isn't.

The update was pretty cool. Short but I haven't gone searching for all of the weapons yet. After watching the anime, I'm even more tempted to go on a hunt for some of the stuff they had in the show, to see if it made it into the game.
