Yeah, basically that. Are dark/steel/ghost move affected by Atk or AtkSpe ? etc
Some are obvious but some aren't to me.

Its depending on the move now, not the type anymore. You can press L and choose the move to check ingame or check the usual sites. Stuff like Ice Punch/Thunderpunch/Earthquake is physical, while Ice Beam/Thunderbolt etc. are special

EDIT: Regarding Power Herb Xerneas--I don't think it's uncounterable (if you manage to phaze it, it's not nearly as threatening without its +2 boosts up), but the hoops you have to jump through to do so mean that it will still warp Ubers insanely hard.

Xerneas is the one with Geomancy.

Two things: 1.How do hidden abilities work? Is there something special you need to do to activate them? 2. Hearing a lot of stuff about Xerneas, but is Yveltal good too? Or is there something just really special about Xerneas?

Or is there something just really special about Xerneas? you don't activate hidden abilities. you just get pokemon that have them. you generally won't find hidden abilities in the wild in game (except in BW2 where the hidden grotto pokemon came with their hidden abilities). pokemon with hidden abilities are usually from events (e.g. the torchic with speed boost), dream world, or apparently the friend safari. previously, only females could pass down hidden abilities, but i guess starting with this gen, males now can too.

Yveltal will be good too (both will probably be Ubers based on their stats and abilities), Xerneas just happens to have a particular hold item + move combo that makes him extra-hard to deal with right now.

Not to mention he is a fairy type in a dragon type tier

How long does it take for Smogon to update the metagame and have the approved tiers?

Right now they are still doing a lot of research. Full egg move lists will take a while to come out.

probably going to use protein and the gang then finish with super training. seems the easiest/cleanest. Start getting your bargain O-power up, mine is already lvl 3 (50% off)
