I dont know, but I didnt think it was too easy, mabye its just me though. I used neither Exp-share nor any free pokemon, not even the second starter. Full team of 6 random new Pokemon that I thought looked cool.
yea that is probably the only way, to specifically pick weak pokemon.
im running diggersby, umbreon, dodrio, greninja, klefki, and amoongus, i imagine the elite four could be difficult, havent gotten there yet

I turned off the Exp Share for a while and was still breezing through everything. Two starters (three with Torchic), free early Fossils (and not horribly underleveled), good Pokemon on every route right from the get-go, etc.
I just turned it back on. I don't mind the story being quick and easy, lets me get to other things.

I switched my team quite a lot during the story, so I actually had quite the challenge against the E4. The EXP boost traded pokemons get is pretty crazy tho, so the gifted Torchic was higher level than everything else. But the E4 has quite the answers to a fire/fighting anyway.

I used Chespin, Litleo, Fletchling, Pancham, Honedge and Klefki/Espurr.
But still to each their own, I really liked the story and it wasnt too easy for me. Just my 2 cents

It's a welcome change for me. EV train your team, then use Exp Share and Lucky Egg to make grinding to level 100 faster.
There no reason to have it early, other then completely dumbing down the game, like someone said earlyer it should be end game content. Purposely dumbing myself down by not using something that was given to me + given pokemon, feels rather stupid. It like playing the entire wings of libery campign without making marine or something like that. Nitendo really want the game to be really really really easy when the game was already fairly easy before. I just dont get any enjoyment anymore from the story since everything so easy. I am just looking toward the end game and make me question why there is even a plot to begin with.

What do you think the max playing time is for this game? I'm pondering on buying a 3DS just to play this and maybe others like MH3 and Fire Emblem, but I would like Pokémon to last me a fair amount of time. How long did it take for you to clear the game (like, beat the Elite Four equivalent of the first game), without rushing or optimizing shit, just playing casually to enjoy the game and without thinking much of it? What about late game?

im currently at 32 hours and only at the 6th gym. but I spent a loooooot of time super training, pokemon ami-ing, customizing looks/shopping, and wonder trading. if you do everything the game has to offer, there's enough content to keep you occupied for quite a while ^^

I had my own Lucario before I even got to the 2nd gym. + Show Spoiler +The free one has set nature / IVs + Show Spoiler + But the fixed values/nature aren't outrageous like N's all-30s Pokemon from B2W2.
They're good but not so much so that it would accomplish a lot that a caught Lucario wouldn't.
A +speed nature and high speed ivs are largely superfluous in single player for a Pokemon with decent base speed. You usually have to get to post-game to find things that would outspeed you anyway.
