Fake Out is also a pretty good move.

generally you want to avoid tanking special attacks, but skarm can eat some resisted or non-stab moves if necessary most notably draco meteors

It also has Brave Bird/Whirlwind from egg moves (thanks to TL who taught me this) ![]() I'm having very bad luck getting max in SpD so was wondering if it was worth it.

I did some math and concluded that 80 EVs in speed will give it 198 Speed, letting it outspeed 130 Pokemon without Choice Scarf. I was thinking for the remainder that I would run 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Speed. What do you guys think about this distribution? Would 176 HP make me get destroyed by certain Pokemon? I use it as a Pseudo Physical wall, and an anti-fire switch in. I'm running leftovers with Stealth Rocks / Roar / Head Smash / Ice Fang which also gives him the ability to be a lead incase my main lead gets hard countered. Speed doesn't matter for leading since its so garbage that almost all leads with outspeed it / outslow it depending on their motives. edit: Or maybe 100 EVs Speed, letting me Outrun Adamants with 102 Speed (Garchomp) along with those with 100 Speed after 1 speed boost. Calculating speed is easy but I'm unsure of how to calculate tankiness threshholds. Advice?

I would just use smogon's damage calculator: http://pokemonshowdown.com/damagecalc/ Probably have to manually enter your stats in for new pokemon.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with nearly every facet of the new generation. I've always been very open-minded about Pokémon, so I've never been one of those people who thought every game after Red/Blue was garbage or anything like that. I'm really happy about the sheer plethora of options a battler now has, and the greater ease of breeding appeals to me as a collector. I think Mega Evolution, while not ideal in my eyes (like how Gengar got even more ridiculous) is implemented very well overall and is balanced around the "one-per-team" rule and prohibition of item boosts. Fairy-typing is a godsend for a metagame ruled by Dragons, though I think Fairy's offensive coverage is too great, and should maybe have another weakness defensively. I am incredibly sad that Lilligant is useless now (she doesn't even learn Dazzling Gleam for coverage??), and I'm not sure that the lengthy wait before Pokébank access is entirely necessary. All in all, though, I've not been this excited for a Pokémon game since I heard about the Gold/Silver remakes announced what seems like decades ago. I'm not old enough to reminisce, though. ![]() How do all of you feel about X and Y? Were your expectations met, or did they fall short? Why or why not?

Played red/blue and also white on a friend's ds. Definitely super fun but I enjoyed white single player more. Like the whole wireless thing. I can battle my TF2 mates on the east coast easily. Like how you can challenge random dudes from japan as well. O powers are sweet. Friend Safari to me is awesome, it's about catching them after all. Super training is a sick idea but I wish it was quicker. Breeding seems much easier than white too which is nice. Pokemon Amie is dumb and pointless. Battle Maison and Battle Chateau take way way way too long. Fairy seems a bit strong. They may have been needed to kill dragons but I don't like that they rape Dark, cos Dark is already pretty niche to me. I do like that Poison kills them cos I have never used a poison pokemon before. I really like megas, gives different options. Mewtwo and Garchomp really didn't need them though. As to legendaries, Xerneas is awesome and the other two suck ass. I really wish there was a bit of story given to Zygarde, didn't feel awesome for catching it like I did with Xerneas and Moltres. Not sure how I feel about the weather nerf. Weather was a bit OP to me but I feel they may have nerfed it too hard. Could have given more cancelling options instead.

Competitively, I think Fairy-type throws a wrench into things in a good way. The metagame hasn't gotten close to stabilized yet but I'm glad that the new type's existence shows GF does care about competitive play. I sort of wish they'd made Fairies just resistant to Dragons instead of immune. Coming in on Outrage with an immunity un-locks the user from Outrage and lets them switch out, or similarly prevents the SpAtk drop from Draco Meteor - instead the most you can force is a switch, which I guess is fine but not as big a nerf as I'd have liked (fuck DragMag). Agree with DropBear about Fairy beating Dark, I guess GF just hates Dark. There aren't many new mons which is disappointing, but I can live with having less Stunfisks and Farfetch'ds in my games. Weather nerf - I like it. If you had a weather vs. weather battle before you were switching in your starter every couple of turns anyway, but it certainly helps reduce the stupidity of Keldeo, stall Tentacruel, etc. I think Mega Evolution was contrived and hokey, but now I don't really mind it too much. I do think that for almost all cases where it wasn't given to an already-OU poke, it could have just been a regular evolution instead. Mawile, Absol, etc. getting regular evolutions was what a bunch of people were hoping for, and they only half got it (and neither are accessible before beating the E4). Speaking of which, the postgame content is super limited. I'm ~45 hours in and I feel like unless you're into Catching Them All or perfect EV/IV/Egg move breeding, there's almost nothing to do once you're the champion. I liked the Looker quest... what else is there? Battle Maison is pretty unsatisfying to try to beat without aforementioned perfectly-bred Pokemon. Compared to HGSS or BW2 the postgame is definitely lacking, but hopefully they make up for it in Z. Everything else I'm super pleased with. The move away from sprites is really nice and looks good, aside from a little Triple Battle lag here and there. I liked the small touches like being able to sit, putting the actual item into the bag, yellow-coloured item balls for TMs, kneeling to talk to toddlers, learning new rollerblade tricks, stylishness, blah blah. Pokemon-Amie is fun when you don't make it a grind to max out affection for dat bonus exp, Super Training is a nice alternative to grinding wild mons, it's all good. Storyline was probably the dumbest so far (especially compared to how good BW's was) but who cares about Pokemon storyline lol.
