This is expected guys from a game such as this.
At least nowdays we can expect quick patches and fixes withing weeks.
In the old days you were fecked until an expansion came out which would introduce new bugs anyway.
My dick has shrunk to the point where it looks like I have 3 balls.

There were also fan patches.

That then wouldn't work with the expansion.
So you either had a buggy „core“ game and a buggy expansion or a running core game and an extremly buggy expansion.

Ranger seems terrible, a bow rogue is basically a much better version of a ranger with all the crit, opening a fight with a sneak attack, repositioning etc. Ranger seems to be balanced by having some of the dps on your companion, cept the pet usually dies and now you have penalties and lost a lot of your damage.

The game won't let me stop, but it's still not close to BG1 and 2. I just don't get why they can't get the stories of these games great. I mean, the soul stuff is good as a theme, but the first act and start of the second lack the urgency and personal tone of BG1 and 2. The game does neither feel very personal, nor does it give you the feeling that you have to succeed now. In fact, i don't even know why i should go after this leaden key, there is no threat to me. That was what made BG1 and BG2 great. YOU were having a huge problem and you were forced to move forward. In PoE, i really can't tell why i should do anything.

And that fortress is just the laziest thing ever. Oh, an empty castle, i should totally take this one for me, good that it has a ghost steward that can build the castle without help, i just need to american express some copper and she is good to go. These things are usually done to increase your experience because you feel like you have more impact on the world, but it's done so clumsy that it feels absolutely artificial.
It's still a great game, and it might become even better the more i play. First world problems :D

I only played through Act 1, but so far it doesn't feel as good as BG2. The secondary characters feel so bland that I'm tempted to just roll my own party, there is no iconic "Go for the eyes, Boo!" or Jaheira/Khalid relationship with the tragic ending/start in BG2. No evil party members that complain when you do good deeds, no good paladins complaining when you slaughter villagers (which I accidentally did and noone complained). Might be a bit early to call that though.

Quest design is decent, not exceptional, but not bad either. The story line doesn't intrigue me though, since there is no "villain". No Sarevok killing your guardian, no Jon Irenicus trying to use your powers, ...

Not a big fan of the combat and stats system, having Might be a major stat for mages just feels off. They seem to have tried to make all stats matter, i.e. no dump stats, but in the same turn they've also removed things like charisma that gave depth to your character. The lack of class-based weapon restrictions make some of the classes less interesting and the armor system with speed reduction causes weird effects where you'd use plate armor on spell casters since they aren't constantly casting anyways and their normal attacks are pathetic while using cloth for Barbarians since they then do an insane amount of damage and don't even get hit in the first place.

The crafting makes all weapons equal, so I no longer cheer when I find my first "sword+2", I just upgrade what I have and sell what I find. Sure, some weapons you find have unique enchantments, but since they aren't free, they also mean that you can't upgrade them as much.

It's a good game and I'll probably play it through to the end, but it could be much better if they had stayed closer to the core mechanics of BG/BG2 and introduced a main villain early on. Heck, I'd even take THAC0 with that.

Also remember to apply buffs and debuffs and utilise class talents; they are insanely useful this game. For example, you can debuff enemies easily with most characters and get your rogue to do massive damage.

I might also be suffering from too good to use syndrome on those X per rest spells. I do use all the X per encounter spells every encounter though, so I guess that helps.

yeah they should have emphazised the struggle with becomeing awakend and the threat of losing your mind much much much more. i like it as a driving force for the plot but they implemented it so weakly its really sad, could have been a great atmosphere throughout the game.
when i think about it, a lot of their plot elements are really badly done in the game.
the leaden key is your mysterious ancient adversery, thousands of years old and appearently extremely powerful when they understand the engwithian technology and can destroy a whole district of defiance bay with just a few agents. its an incredible powerful enemy and how often do you face him? once. twice if you count the fight against the assassins at the beginning of act 3.
a lot of their plot devices are sadly very short lived and not very well flashed out. there are a few missed opportunities here which could have made the game a new bg2, but they arent quite up to it.

i still played 40 hours in 3 days.

Guys, don't expect a kickstarter game to come anywhere close the near-perfection that was BG2. The game does not even come close to BG1, but it's still pretty fucking great in its own right.

damage basically comes from talents, accuracy and passive damage/speed talents.


My rogue can stack all of those talents, he hits really hard.
I think barb can stack a few, too and has AE.



And yes, every decent mage somehow needs to be a bulky freak that can bend iron bars with bare hands and can pick up people at their collars all day.
Pretty sure they redid attributes after they made those roleplay scripts.

It costs 42 euro on steam so top quality should be bombarding you from every pixel of the screen every single second you play the game.
