I just discovered this yesterday, and I don't see how I can buy in =/ You can get a 'slacker backer' buy in for $29 which just has a GOG or Steam key with an exclusive badge. I missed the Kickstarter campaign due to lack of funds at the time (had just graduated with no job ¬_¬) and I'm pretty disappointed I can't see any way of pre-ordering or backing to get a collectors edition or any kind of physical boxed copy. Normally I'm totally fine with steam keys but in this instance a boxed copy would be spot on so I'm hoping they announce some boxed versions for launch.
I'm aware of this option, but like you said, there were some things I was kinda hoping to get that will now only come with a collector's edition or something of that ilk if they release such a thing. Probably at a higher price too.

Sounds like a better version of Neverwinter Nights 2 stronghold.

Not a big fan of this stronghold thing (looks like a mini-management game inside the real game) but if they can do it properly and you still feel like an adventurer instead of a landlord why not.

Only seems like a bad thing if it's necessary for whatever reason, right?

Holy shit I just found out about this and now I feel like I've been living under a rock. Looks good. Right up my alley.

You could have some strongholds in BG2 too and i'm sure they will try to make it more interesting but in my opinion Rpgs like BG are more about "getting" the stronghold (i.e: clearing dungeons, liberating cities etc...) than managing it. Having a thief guild or a castle in BG wasn't exactly interesting. The possibilities were very limited and if you want to make it more complex, challenging and interesting it becomes a completly different genre of game.
I would like to be positively surprised tho.

Nwn2 did a decent job with the stronghold minigame. It had its problems but it seems they are improving it this time around. Same guys made nwn2.

The more I read their updates, the more I'm pumped for this game.

I keep getting updates, can't believe they are on something liek 65, never expected them to be this dedicated to showing us all the process of development. I am really impressed, I hope this style of game creation becomes the dominant style rather than faceless corporations pumping out crap with horrific deadlines and no love for the game.

Just as long as it doesn't interfere with actual progress towards completion. You can have all the love in the world for a project team, game, etc. It doesn't do you any good if the project delays keep stacking on top of each other, and it becomes the next Duke Nukem 3D or Aliens: Colonial Marines.

This game is being advertised as a real spiritual successor to BG2 so it must have BG2 elements in it, and strongholds were awesome in BG2.

Duke Nukem 3d was like one of the best games evur. (Duke Nukem 1 was awesome as well, though it was platformer)
Archangel: Strongholds were just a fluff in Baldur's Gate, i don't remember them being any important to the main story.

Who said they need to be? But they added a very nice side content that made the world feel alive and your character as someone that can achieve something more then just stop the bad guy like in most other RPG games.
Even in P:E they said stronghold can be ignored.

Wow. /facepalm. My mind must have censored the shitty out of head. I meant Duke Nukem Forever.

And those games I listed were all supposed to be actual successors in their respective series. I'm not screaming that the sky is falling, but I'll be much happier once the marketing campaign is done and a beta test is in sight.

Looks pretty cool. I get a BG1 & ToEE vibe from this picture. I really like the trees, the rocks are a bit too shiny and bluish tho.

I'll have to see how models animate and blend in the background (and spells) before judging.
