I have never been able to play Half-Life because I own the original and it makes me nauseous when I play, but now that there is a free source model, I'm really excited. It's not ported. It's recreated from the ground up in the Source engine. Ok, but the entire game wasn't recreated, right? It sounded like it stopped at a certain endpoint before the original finished. It stops immediately before you go to Xen, from my understanding. Most of the game, basically.
And they are going to release the rest a little bit later. The game goes up until lambda core.

Unfortunately none of that stuff means anything to me as I've been unable to play the original game at all. It sounds like a decent amount and a good place to finally get cracking on this game. Thanks, Source

They say it's 8-10 hours of gameplay, if that helps you. I'd say it is a little less if you are fast or already know whats what. but still a good amount of time for a almost free game

I don't care if it was 5 minutes of gameplay, we finally got something after 8 years! Super excited to play this tonight of the download doesn't take 10 hours...

Thanks, Source Let's just say you can play about 85% of the game. They're still working on the final 15%.

ATTENTION: In order to run Black Mesa: Source, you will need to install Source SDK Base 2007 on Steam. It is available to all users.
Go to your Game Library in the Steam Client.
Left click on "All Games" drop-menu next to the Search Bar.
Left click on Tools.
Find Source SDK Base 2007 and Install it.
When your download of Black Mesa: Source is completed, you must extract all three files and then run the Setup program. If you do not have Source SDK Base 2007 installed, it will not work.
The three files you need to extract are:
BlackMesa.7z
BlackMesa.md5
BlackMesa-Setup.exe
You do not need any Source games to run Black Mesa: Source. If you only have the Source games and not Source SDK Base 2007, you will not be able to run Black Mesa: Source.

download 4 hours on shitty mirror see chip mirror and download the game in 14 minutes

I shot the g-man earlier ^^ Just played a little bit, but it is really really well done. Can't wait to play more.

I'm holding off on getting Black Mesa, until they add in the last area. I would rather play a finished game then a game that just ends and you have to wait for the last area. I waited years for this, waiting a little bit longer won't hurt.

Yeah this is an incredible "mod", feels like some serious love went into this. The 1st 1/2 hour is truly amazing, with all the hilarious dialog, and throwing shit at people. Really reminds me of a time when pacing in a game was important, no need to throw everything on 11 from the get go. Highly recommend! and about the ending, it doesnt bother me, the last parts of HF1 werent great, all i remember is platforming in Xen was a bitch, so i wont miss it i dont think, also considering we know how it ends anywaus is no big deal IMO. GG GL

Oh well I didnt play through the whole game in one go like I planned but I at least got to chapter 12. I can tell you it is everything that I expected and more.

I don't understand why I can't access the game after I install it. Where do I go to run the application? There is no executeable or anything.

Ok so even with closing Steam, the SDK 2007 was still running somehow. Forcequit that and I'm good to go. Thanks guys.
