I got religious ideas as second while playing Ottos and it works very well. More better missionaries and cheaper stability is nice for an expansionist nation.

Thats the tradeoff you get for conquering. If you advance smartly and diploannex 3 province countrys, while taking the smallish minors directly, you can get many cores without spending admin points. For most land based countrys naval isnt important (early game at least) and trade probably also, so you can go for diplo as first idea and do cool stuff. Later you probably can afford to conquer faster without much development. Also tradeoffs for stability (f.e. +5%tax, religious stuff, going above 1 stab) adds up and have to be considered.

But yea overall, admin tech is not giving enough return for the slower progress on other fields. But playing with Innovative or Eco is really nice change of pace, because cheaper advisors+constant high traiditon+prestige or -inflation lets you take those inflation for point popups and cheaper buildings add up really fast, especially if you go conquering 24/7 and invest mostly into manufactorys, since you are lacking the monarchpoints.

i don't mind admin tech that much, so long as you know when to start saving and maybe hire advisor for tech cost reduction. new idea groups are pretty powerful, but running with offensive + quality is pretty much guaranteed for most nations i think. defensive is really good too, though, esp. late game (attrition)

oh, you guys mean the tech group as a whole. yeah, it's a little lame. It's okay depending (I used it as Byz, but Byz is fucking easy once you win the first war vs. Ottos), but its a little weak. In EU3 MM, you would get bureaucracy and that would greatly increase your administrative efficiency, but now its kinda meh as a tech group. It's just not that useful overall.

Take administrative, it reduces coring cost, making it worthwhile even if you tend to expand, I'd say.

1 diplomat on a mission always gives me +100 after some time. Even Marocco that should hate me and that i have an embargo against, is actually +50.

Yea this is the issue I raised a few pages back in respect to the Iroquois opinion of everyone else. It makes it impossible to form any kind of alliance with any nation (as far as I can see) because the opinion of everyone else is -150 by default.

I can sort of understand why it is that way, but it makes it frustrating when there are no ways to improve it.

wtf am i reading

mil tech 5 gives you 40% more dmg over someone who is mil tech 4. every military tech is huge, and if its not huge it means the wars youre fighting were decided before tech mattered.

meh, tech 5 comes so early that it usually comes around before differences in idea groups and specific choices enable some countries to pull ahead. my post was aimed at something beyond the first couple decades

anyways, EU4 is fun but as usual just too easy. only challenge comes from player restraint really, which is somewhat sad. Still fun, but when you have to handicap yourself deliberately it removes some of the entertainment (at least for me). definitely one of the more polished Paradox games to come out when first released, though

Most paradox strategy games were easy in vanilla. By design. And easy mostly for someone that has previous experience with the genre. For someone green some of them can be quite daunting. That being said, just wait for mods, M&T's development is in full swing (a fusion of Death&Taxes and MEIOU for anyone interested).

And its polished in the sense that there are no glaring bugs (apart from merchants changing transfer directions ranomly...), but some key features are missing and/or unpolished. The game was rushed for release IMO, hopefully this will be ironed out in near patches.

playing on ironmode makes it not that easy, playing byzantinium i needed a few trys before understand how to own with them

i have nearly 1/3 bigger army, better leader but with my mil. tech 6 i just get rolled by one with 11 ... no idea what u play ^^


also DANGER this game is DRUG i played it last week every day 10+ hours

Yep, agreed.

mods are where paradox games shine, and this game will be -astounding- after like...oh, a year of mod development or so. I played probably 500 hours of magna mundi over the course of the years, for example. Maybe more, come to think of it

I just think the guy is downright wrong. In most cases, an army with 1 or at least 2 steps higher MIL tech will own you, you need a massive advantage of numbers to stand a chance and even then it will probably be cost-inefficient because you will lose manpower too quickly.
