Real-Time Dynamic Map Features, for instance when you destroy the skyscraper it will not only cover everything in dust, but also create a new landscape such a "Ground Zero" in the map they showed at E3. There were also rumors many months ago that there is gonna be a map with a dam you can destroy to flood some areas etc.
Isn't this similar to BFBC2's scripted destruction buildings?

- Has a degree of realism when compared to other modern shooters like Call of Duty - Vehicle warfare with tanks, fighter jets, etc - Destructible environments (a downgrade from Bad Company 2, honestly) - Frostbite engine - Audio of weapons, explosions, tanks, etc sound awesome - More team based (only applies when playing with competent players since pub players are dumb as fuck) - I find firefights to be more intense and chaotic than Call of Duty (opinion) - Larger maps of different seasons: fall, winter, spring, and summer along with city warfare maps
Just some things that came to my head right now. I thought BF3 was great and I played a shit ton of it for at least 1.5 years until I recently got bored of it a couple of months ago. It wasn't because the game got boring itself, but a lot of my friends stopped playing and trust me, playing in a pub will make you slam your face on a table. BF4 looks awesome so far, but I don't see myself buying it at launch because they will have a Premium later down the road most likely. I guess we can say BF3 was pretty much an unofficial beta for BF4.
To add to this, the environments "feel" like a real battlefield. Thinking back to most other FPS, there are maps that are essentially arenas, with very heavyhanded pathways, chest-high walls, and strange boundaries. There's not a lot of that in BF3. The roads you run down are very open, like a real road, the fields are expansive like real fields, and the cityscapes are open like real cities. Even with Close Quarters, there are some really open areas that you don't see much in other FPS. Despite all this open space, however, they still provide plenty of clever ways to break LOS.
mmhh reminds me that i still havent touched most of the latest addons despite me buying premium... stupid 40gb download <.<
bf3 was the only shooter that kept me playing for a long time since the days of quake, tacops, ET etc. tf2 was fun but i quickly spent more time trading shit then shooting people

Yeah i still play almost everyday and also semi competitively. I got an invite to BF4 alpha btw. Cant say much becasue of NDA but there are some interesting changes in gameplay mechanics. Return of the commander will be the the biggest impact i feel, although i dont really know yet since it wasnt available in the alpha. As a FPS player with RTS background im really looking forward to it though.
One thing I would like to see is variable map sizes based on (max) player count on the server. I hate playing a 32v32 on a map like metro, and 8v8 on a map like Bandar Desert.
How would that work with the current out of bounds mechanic?
If all of a sudden 20 people leave and the size goes down by a lot, anyone on not in the middle of the map already would be fucked if nothing else was changed.

I just meant when you define the game size at the beginning of the round. If it's a 64 man server and only 8 people are there, it will still be the size of a 64 man map.
Ah, I'm pretty sure some people had their servers run with some sort of adaptive size mod that scaled the teamsize up the more people joined and so on, which somewhat resembles what you describe.
The biggest issue with it ends up being that some people want to play something very specific, and are thus pissed off when suddenly the server goes from x map on y size to something different and then leave.
So recently, EA and EB Games Australia showcased a live BF4 Demo exclusive to the Australian media and 100 lucky fans. Footage that was shown was the Angry Sea gameplay and the 17 minute demo from earlier this year. However, we did learn a plethora of information from the Q&A done by David Silverman, the Marketing Director at EA of Battlefield.
Singleplayer: • Admitted that the BF3 story could have been more. • Campaign will be more character driven and emotional. Confidence in their skills in building multiplayer led them to spend more time into creating a good singleplayer story. • NPCs will be more human. Right down to the smallest and simplest details of just watching you walk around etc. • Cutscenes are acted out in a soundstage like in movies
Specs: • Oculus Rift support is not planned, but is possible in the future • PC specs are similar to the specs of BF3. No official specs list has been released.
Multiplayer: • Battlelog returns on PC and will integrated into the console games • Commander Mode runs in-game and tablet, however the in-game versions will have extra features such as live video feeds etc. • Maps can't be totally leveled, however, destruction is going to be more dramatic than BF3's and will be similar to BC2's destruction. • They are considering bringing back the ability to destroy MCOMs by having structures and buildings fall on them, like BC2 • You can cut the power in the indoor parts of the maps and use the darkness and non functional elevators to your advantage • Seize of Shanghai, the map shown at the E3 Demo, is a medium size map and new game modes will be shown soon. • The spokesman said that "You won't be disappointed by the number of maps in the game" • He also stated that Operation Metro is the most popular map in BF3, thus indirectly confirming that it'll return in the Second Assault DLC.
Destruction parts sound good. If they actually learned what the good parts of it were in bc2 and bring those with them to their new game it'll be very nice.
The last comment though. I can only shudder and cringe at what their conclusions must have been. It's not even like Metro didn't have potential to be a good map, it's just completely underutilized and I fear they will want to simply replicate the entirely claustrophobic feel of it rather than expand on it's outdoors and ground level features.
EA has officially announced Battlefield 4, in the shape of an exclusive beta for those who pre-order Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition.
This news first appeared over the weekend, when Origin – EA's digital distribution platform – carried an advertisement mentioning a BF4 beta.
“Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment,” said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels.
Access to the exclusive beta will be available in Autumn 2013, and further details on Battlefield 4 will be revealed at a later date, said EA.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America on October 23, 2012, and in the UK on October 26, 2012.
Well uh....I don't know quite what to say
...
Will update with more news as it comes in, but kind of disappointed they're seeming to just move onto the next one.
Yea BF4 is going to be awesome. But I guess we'll have to get new consoles or a high end PC :/
We’re increasing the suppression effect of Light Machine Guns, exclusive to the Support kit, while other weapons are less suppressive. Additionally, we’ve decreased suppression at close range to ensure that close quarters battles always focus sharply on player skill. Besides changing the visual effects of suppression, we’re also replacing the accuracy penalty in Battlefield 3 with a scope sway effect – similar to what snipers get in Battlefield 3 while suppressed. A skilled, focused player can keep his aim on target and get hits, even while under the effects of Suppression.
By far the most notable thing they've mentioned thus far about the game.
