My buddies and I are trying to optimize beating a beginner bot team in the shortest amount of time.
Honestly theres a couple luck factors and its not that hard to beat beginner bots me and 2 buddies bumrushed right down mid in like 8 minutes. The thing that makes speedrunning exciting is part skill part overcoming mistakes or RNG then part speed of course, but beating beginner bots really require skill at least in my opinion
Well obviously just beating bots doesn't require skill, but trying to beat them in, say, 5:30 or so does.
It's still not hard at all just pick like draven nunu Warwick Xin and sona and it's easily 8 or under. I'm not saying its not a fun idea and a great exercise in theorycrafting. I just don't really see it as a "speed run" IMO
Was watching the most recent Yahtzee (Zero Punctation) video when I heard what I can only assume to be a subtle shoutout to Blueglass and the recent AGDQ. Here's the link for anyone who's interested, 30 seconds into the video: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6788-The-Cave. Not all that relevant but pretty cool nonetheless :p
Also sick to see so much interest in RPG runs as of late.

Thats a pretty reasonable time for a first go at the game. Just keep at it and we can race soon enough
I suggest printing off a bunch of notes when playing the game to keep track of valor form uses / ethers since it makes running RPGs much easier despite what Raelcun would say with his 13 hours no notes run
I was reading this thread ( http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=398092 ) and I was wondering if speedrunning can be considered/can evolve into an esport. Some bigger races on SRL have incredible amounts of players/viewers and some of them even have cash prizes now from what I understand. Speedrunning and racing being more and more popular as time goes, I'm really beginning to wonder if some popular and easy to understand games like SM64 won't end up in MLG or something one day. I even saw an article the other day where Sig was in a list of progamers along some guys like Flash.

What do you guys think ?
I already consider it to be an eSport, akin to events like 100 metres, but that does not mean that it should be something that pops up at major organized tournaments. Of course, I am rather interested if this actually led to something.
I think people are obssessed on making things ESPORT for no particular reason. Races are just a small part of the whole deal, WR/PB attempts are still far more important and there you are competing against yourself. Maybe some day you will have a SM64 tournament, but then isn't SM64 the ESPORT? Speedrunning is for me more about self improvement than competition.
Noone cares what Usain's Bolt practice times are, the same way noone cares about Marathon times for speedruns. There is just too much variance and luck involved. A sport where a player will lose solely because he got an extra random encounter or a bad pattern isn't a good sport imo. Most runs can be ruined by luck alone, and that's bad if you put a lot of money on the line. Speedruns need those dozens or hundreds of attempts to be legit.
Calling Sig a progamer isn't that much of a stretch, if your profession is gaming, being called a progamer makes sense. Can you call the Globetrotters professional basketball players?

You could make that argument for any speedrun, though, couldn't you? The difficulty isn't in completing the task, it's in completing it quickly. Much like the difficulty isn't beating SM64/OoT/whatever it's in beating it quickly, without making mistakes.

I was using a new strat which left me really under leveled for fusion dragon - I guess I'll practice him later

Honestly the biggest thing that hurt me time wise was anti-form popping then me getting killed because of it :/ The funniest thing for me was my run wasnt that much faster then a save file I had on my mem card from a casual play through a year or so ago

Plexa,
Plug your stream. Post a link, please. :D
I posted a link a few pages back: http://twitch.tv/tl_plexa At the moment I plan on doing another GS2 attempt on Friday (KST) and another GS1 attempt probably tomorrow or thursday. (Both now have improved XXXXX Dragon strats!) I guess I'll post here when I do This is the last week I know I'll be able to do runs at these times for two weeks or so but after that I plan on setting aside some time until I get sub 4:30/9 in GS1/GS2 respectively. Then I might do something else (The World Ends with You sounds tempting).

Except that even in SM64 and OoT there still are some tricks and skips. OoT has things like wrong warp, Forest Escape and Door of TIme skip used to save time. SM64 has an entire trick banned in everything except 16 Star and thats not even mentioning things like bomb-omb clips. "Speed Running" LoL really isnt much of a run since there isnt much you can do to save time besides getting the stronger level 1 champs and bum rushing mid. Theres no glitches or skips or anything its just rushing straight down mid and hoping you do it faster than before

i'm certainly interested in chucking a few dollars in the way of setting up races on stuff i'd like to see (now that i have my sunday evenings back with no football), but i'm not sure where the best place would be to post on sda, and don't seem to see an srl forum?
