The way they made Spartans made it pretty hard to get any kind of numbers in their army. I'm surprised that they get 20 of them anyway. Man breaking formation as a phalanx is fucking murder. I got pwned by basic mobs and levy spearman beacuse I got cocky and had them attack different units. I think the sucessor kingdoms are either broken mechanicaly or ultra high skill cap difficulty factions.

CA should move away from this 'you can play any faction' towards just locking you into play Rome and then spending their time streaminlining the Romans. The amount of anger I feel when I try to play as Macedon or Epirus is disproportionate to what anyone should feel about any game.

Playing as Parthia i just build a few of there initial melee cavalry and they just murder everything they get a charge on. It can be a little tricky if you somehow get bogged down but so long as your charging they break everything in 10 seconds or less. Really much worse then i had in previous plays as Rome/Sparta

After early experimentation I came to the conclusion that missle units are useless. My armies consist of Cataphracts only, every single battle lasts 2 minutes in total. And this is how they go: Put your 12+ Cataphract units in a single line. Charge enemies. 70% of enemy army dies from the first charge impact, the rest rout. Never lost a battle, never lost more than 100 units even against 3K armies. If its a Capital siege, you just dismount, flame gates, and charge your 1K horses through that one gate and win. Money is useless, I'm currently at 100K+ gold and earning 20K per turn. No guard mode, no loose formation, spear phalanx is bugged, families don't do anything, hitpoints?! why did they ever introduce hitpoints, shields are useless against arrows eventually you'll die to them, buggy graphics, 1 turn per year, no seasons, random capture points in open fields, naval combat is really buggy, and lots of other stupid stuff... I bet this game was made to be playable on console as well. etc... etc... Atleast it's really fun. I still enjoy watching whole enemy armies die to a single Cataphract charge. I have hope for patches/expansions to fix this game. oh lol... this sounds alot like the cataphract general unit of the sassanids in the Rome: Barbarian invasion expensian. that was so funny, u could defeat entire armies with 2 family members... in fact i conquered half the world with just 2 family members and some cheap merc infantry to storm the walls and open the doors XD but ya combat... way too fast. battle last like 6 minutes and thousands are dead :S

By the way... character leveling just suck imo. Shogun 2 had a way clearer and more interesting system of leveling. This... it just sucks. So far after having put more hours into the game... I sadly feel I was more impressed with Shogun 2 (as for release state), it was more polished and just better put together in my opinion despite shit AI and other stuff (that are still aweful in R2). So far the only thing R2 has over S2 in my opinion is the scope of the campaign and unit diversity...

That movie is 99% inaccurate but it's where most of the Sparta fans got their historical knowledge from.

(i did get empire recently but couldnt really play it due to graphical problems) i know about Stainless Steel for MTW2, which is supposed to be pretty good! but if you want to find out, sign up at totalwar.org or twcenter.net and ask your question, if there are any good historical mods out for these games, then those are the forums where the people working on the mods were coordinating their work (or atleast started to do so.) EB came from totalwar.org, Rome Total Realism from TWcenter.net. any similar mods for other titles in the series are probably found there too, or people would know about it atleast. gl

I just don't want to play it. ![]() I wish i did, Kinda in the same boat. Just played a few turns in campaign and a few custom battles. Saw a shitload of gameplay bugs and weird stuff, so I read other people reactions, same for everyone. Now I'm just waiting for the patches (right now the game really needs BIG one). Sad, since the game have a lot of potential.
