Why do i pay them for this?
You're so right. But I pay them to see my Cataphracts charging stuff.

Okay so I love to play the original Rome:Total War.
How do these games compare in terms of the single-player experience?
|
Isn't all this shit supposed to be fixed during beta testing?
|
Yeah but they spent all their beta testing money on their oh so awesomemarketing campaign...

Depends how forgiving you are of flaws! It's not a polished diamond...if you just can't stay away from Rome then buy it...if you don't mind waiting...it will be better in a month or two.

Dont get it. I think you should wait 1-2 years till decent mods will polish the game.

So, enough rant about the game, it's time to play multiplayer. I'd like to organize a multiplayer coop game. 2 players per team. Anyone interested to play and / or to help me set this up ?

Phalanx is broken, don't kid yourself.
I didn't know families are supposed to do all of that since they literally have done nothing in 150 turns. Also wtf? is Gravitas, please explain that to me. I couldn't find anything about it in the Encyclopedia thing. Also no idea how influence thing works, hasn't affected me in any way.
Yes Rome 1 had hitpoints but they worked completely different. Almost every unit had 1 hitpoint, elite ones had 2 or 3 and elephants/chariots had more. They weren't like hurr durr this unit has 85 hit points, shooting him with enough arrows will kill him. Yes I've played Rome 1 through every patch and still remember the day they changed Germanic Bersker hp from 3 to 2.
Try getting some archers versus Tustedos in a custom game. Tustedos only add to your hp/armour. Eventually they'll die to arrows unlike in Rome 1 were they become completely immune. Also stuff like Spartans in Rome 1 were completely immune to arrows from the front, while they take a few casualties if hit from the sides and get decimated if hit from the back. Talking about missile units, skirmish mode is really sloppy especially on horse missle units, half the time the enemy gets to them before the skirmish AI even thinks of running back. Hell you can even control whether or not your melee troops throw their javelins right before combat...
Rome 1 wasn't 1 turn per year, and it had seasons.
Have you tried toggling between boarding and ramming in naval combat? You have to click that button 20 times before it actually does what it's supposed to do.
You can try to blindly love the game as much as you want, but that's not going to change the fact that it needs lots of patches/mods/expansions to become upto TW standard. The fact that you try to argue about Capture Points being for people like you that kite enemies the whole day is just really really dumb.
After playing for like 20 plus hours i must agree, the initial exitement and my 8 score for this game went down, the game isnt properly tuned in, yes it got potential, and i feel like to wait a few patches to properly enjoy it. As usual, the hype was enormous, and initial feel good, but i dont feel any challenge, and the depth is kinda not very deep after the hype is gone. I remember my Hattori legendary campaing, and there is no comparison, i wish i knew how to mod it, anyone knows how people start on it ? I feel like changing so much stuff to improve it...

This game is really really really really fucking stupid and shitty sometimes lol. It's like the only playtesters they had were people that had never touched a PC before in their lives and thought the pretty graphics made a good game. Nice fucking work.

So lets solve this phalanx thing people are pissing about with. Clearly you dont get the real long spear ones until a few tech levels ip. Besides that are you guys running you phalanx at the enemy or just walking them in. Im having no problems with missle infantry with my phalanx with the long spears and I just walk them up and smash the enemy in a line. Having swordsmen to fill the gaps is nice but now im just running downhill with 10 thoraxs 4 swordsmen (general as a swordsman so he doesnt get sniped) and then 6 heavy calv to smash around the rear to break the army at once.
Clearly the phalanx problem is on your end and not being a sperging rager about an expected quality game with an expected launch would help everyone.
so missle troops, is it just me or did no one ever take into consideration back then that they might themselves take missle fire? Might as well stick to cheap slingers for all the armor archers keep

But archers hilariously rape slingers and then when the slingers are killed they can run around :D

By the way I just want to point out that in vanilla RTW the strongest armies for the majority of the game was 20 units of peasants, so it's not like balance issues are new to Total War lol. Kind of embarrassing, but CA is a pretty small outfit running out of Sussex, they are no blizzard.

Are there any good rome total war 1 mods that some of you might recommend?

Before the game was released, people were wondering how they were going to make money offering free DLC like the Pontus one and then the upcoming Seleucid one. I think it's pretty obvious now that they had a hard release date scheduled. The 2 "free" DLC were factions planned to be included in the original game but they weren't sure they could finish them in time for the ship date. They weren't planned to be DLC at all. The real DLC will come later.
The game looks rushed and a lot of the bugs like the port blockade one seem very obvious. Beta testers should have easily spotted that one.

I'm pretty new to the game but if anyone on EST (eastern) time zone wants to try the co-op multiplayer I wouldn't mind trying it, just shoot me a PM

For now i prefer samurais over legionnaires :S

Just me or twcenter is taking forever to load or just down?
