You have to be measured and balance times of peace with times of war. Just like in real life...being attacked like that seems really annoying but it happened in Rome 1 and M2TW too. Annoying, they could do with sorting that out and hopefully they will. My reaction to this game is very similar to Empire, I think an 8.5 is a solid rating for the game as-is. I am having annoying slowdown on the campaign map even though the battles run smoothly. So many of the ideas are really really appealing and pleasing, just a few hitches prevent it from being perfect, mostly system-based and a few design-based (dat UI). They will have to be ironed out, but I'm sure this game will give many hours of enjoyment to me over the next decade or so ![]() They do seem a little strong. In my game, Parthia has been wiped out. But the rest of the big factions are still alive and there are no 'empires' of small factions. It contrasts heavily with R1, where the small factions were meaningless pushovers and just pointless cities with tiny armies. Now it's a challenge to expand in any direction and they can threaten you! I like it a lot to be honest. It's so much more realistic. Cities don't just bow down and take it up the ass. I love the amount of factions, it's so varied and fun, I would like to be able to play as every single one ![]() The thing with the small factions is not only that they are strong enough to make an impact, its just that they look stronger then i can play them. In my Spartan campain i really struggled do to that the Spartan city is as big as the smallest Rome has but when i played with another faction, suddenly Sparta was taking half of Greece in 20 Turns. I know that the AI is cheating and such but it feels very random.

As soon as I leave a city with an army an enemy from the other side of the map (who is obviously maphacking) declares war and attacks it on the same turn. And because of the ridiculously stupid system where I can only have one army per city (at most) I have to stay home at all time. Total WAR? Really? Why does the enemy factions have to cheat so much? You can't starve them or use any strategy against them because they don't fight on the same terms as you do. They simply exist, with their unlimted amounts of armies and unlimited amounts of moves per turn. They can even move out of turn to reinforce their armies... Still have no clue what food does and why it doesn't say food PER TURN instead of just food. Still have no clue why my fucking boats won't follow order and ram the enemy. Still have no clue why there's a victory point on certain battlefields. Still have no clue why this Total War series of games manage to survive when it's so shitty. This is so weird. not a single opponent has declared war on me, and i've played for at least 12 hours so far.

I have taken many territories in 20 turns as Athens and I haven't been very proactive (playing on v hard). All you need is 6-7 units of archers, stand them in front of 13 units of hoplites (some militia), and wreck the enemy slingers with your superior archers, then hide behind phalanxes when they get charged. You should be able to dominate epirus, macedon, knossos, rhodes, pergamon, efesus. Without any difficulty if you do it right... I have played like 8 and haven't had war declared on me either. In fact Egypt has been desperate to ally with me, and half of the factions I have met have offered non-aggression pacts/ trade agreements within a few turns. Maybe that's because Athens get love from everyone though ![]()

first of all...why the hell are the graphics so fucking bad. like Medieval 2 looks better at some point :D .... the ai in battles is totally retarded. when i defended my first small city the enemy had the same strength but also had merc elephants PLUS they had an army with the same strength coming in as reinforcements. the first army wasted their elphants and then just tried to run through my army. like they were straight heading towards the vic point instead of trying to fight the friggin guys between them and the point :D. result was me crushing them with ease even before the reinforcements reached the city. and thsi second army was even weirder. they were like splitting up running around in circles with no clear intend. some of them where trying to get to the vic point aswell other were just running in circles. and this is the very hard ai?!?! srsly ? every fucking TW game the ai was shit at the beginning. in some it got bettr after patches like in medieval 2 (still the best tw game of all, BY FAR) i dont know why those stupid developers just cant give us a fucking acceptable ai form the start. somemtimes i really ask myself if those guys ever play their game before they release it. like srsly how can u play that as a developer and say "ye its good to go". and dont tell me their publishers say "NO IT HAS TO COME OUT NOW! PATCH LATER U LAZY BASTERDS!"

I have a question to anyone who has been struggling somewhat with province balance as well. Since only the capital can build fora, industry and aquaducts would it not be better to skip the military buildings to the minor cities of the province ? building a legionary and auxiliary camp in Rome for example will deprive it of some buildings that you desperately need later on for public order and research. a minor settlement can field a max of 4 expands if I am correct, which would then be : 1. farm 2. military 3. temple 4. optional can of course change that prio list when you need something else fast but I'm thinking this gives you better options for the capital. So... question basically is, any of you guys thinking the same or was this a really stupid /noob question ? also, I should give more focus to siege engines, had a couple of fights in which I was not fielding any and my gaul opponent was, needless to say they rip on everything.... poor praetorians...

You can see if this is happening by going to c:\users\YOU USERNAME\appdata\roaming\the creative assembly\rome 2\logs and glicking on the graphics log. You can stop it from happening by ticking the unlimited video memory box in the advanced graphics options, but you will then have to adjust things slightly to compensate for the slowdown you might get.

Yes, you should definitely build the recruitement building in your minor settlement. In your capital, you can build workshop and armory though. As rome, i always open forum and aqueduc to manage public order and boost growth. Disable "autoselect" in your 3d graphical option. To find that, right click on your desktop, select your graphic card, click on 3d options, and select your graphical card instead of autoselect.

You are welcome to have your opinion about which you prefer but there is no way m2tw was *far* better than Rome. It is madness.

Rome 1, Medieval 2 and shogun 2 are the best of the series but though an argument can be made for each of them you can't say "this game is the best of the series by far" because the other two are just as good i'd say still undecided on Rome 2, its fun but i'll wait till i complete a campaign
