There's some awesome features (the choose map thing for custom battles sounds amazing). its not easy to defend, it has tight little alleys @_@ wtf XD thats the best thing for defending lol

You can be converted. ![]() It can actually be a lot of fun. The important thing is to have a lot of active friends play with you, as it makes it a lot easier to continue playing and improving and goofing off (lol); going it alone turns players' interests away too easily.

I'm totally cool with that. It's just CA stated they'd make the combat in Rome II more "grinding" and "barbaric" compared to the "graceful, swift" combat of Shogun 2. Perhaps they meant the battle animations instead. Either way, super-extended combat sequences were a bore. Medieval II comes to mind.... EDIT: Watching the first of those videos. The siege crews can't bring their onagers or balistae onto land from the ships? What?! O_o The unit response for Testudo formation was almost immediate. Extremely pleased. That always took forever and a day in Rome I. ![]() I do prefer the look of the units from Rome I, especially for the Romans, than the designs here, even if they are more historically representative. Combat was much more like what I expected. Legionaries so beastly. :-o The unit faces are distracting. I hope there's an option like in SC2 where you can halt or remove them. Unit special abilities are below unit cards instead of above them as they were in Shogun 2.

Anyway it looks pretty good, I like the strategic camera. But the only wish I had since I've been playing TW games is for melee units to really clash and mingle their lines during battle. Because it has always been wall vs wall with 3-4 units actually hitting each other... It should be XOXOXXXOXXOXOOOOXOXOOX OXOXOOOXOXXOXOXXXOOXXO XXOXOXXOOOXXOOOXOOXXOX Not OOOOOOXOOOOOO XXXXXXXOXOXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX or in other words, more of a clusterfucker if 2 melee engange eachother. Enough of a clusterfuck that if you told them to reform, retreat or break off from attacking, it would take considerably more effort from them to do so. edit: bah stupid TL formatting -.-

Probably someone will make a mod for that in R2 if possible. But the second drawing is pretty realistic when it comes to romans I think, after all they were renowned for discipline creating a wall that stay tight and kill people with their short swords. The first one would be more for other types of units.

Like Roman Praetorian Cohorts or the equivalent Elite Unit of a faction. Some like barbs (Arveni, Iceni, Suebi) probably shouldn't even have access to this kind of formation.
