Would be nice if we can modify game files to play the minor Factions as well. Far too many cool factions not playable.

It seems by "100+ factions," CA really meant that each individual settlement would be its own faction. I'm kind of skeptical how varied that many factions can become.

Taking over the world with the small factions in Rome was so much fun. Starting out with nothing and lacking in strong units is a cool challenge. Why not just make all of them playable? Bah.. Some smart guy will probably make it possible at some point.

The only reason I can think of is pure simple greed. Bastards.

Who gives a flying if there is enough fluff/customization or not to each faction, just look at Paradox titles, it is awesome to do. The only reason I can think of is pure simple greed. Bastards. like with ROME I where you simply had to edit some lines in the editor to play all the other factions. everything was there so why didn't they unlock them in the first place, doesn't make sense. i thought they have learned.

I can see reasons why CA would think it might be a messy situation, but I with it was at least an option. Are you sure that feature is officially out? Cause i was really hoping for it, and besides if you look trought the various videos you'll eventually hear them talk of something about "4 player multiplayer" which i inferred was meant about the campaign since the multiplayer battles easily go up to 8 players.... and there would be an outrage if they restricted it to 2v2s Besides, no i don't see how it could possibly be messy with the turn structure CA has, it's only time consuming as there isn't even any time help like simultaneous turns where there isn't any possible contact between players... if it is not in, it's just them being lazy/greedy.

From an E3 interview: Q: What is the multiplayer element of ROME II going to be? ROME II will contain traditional TW multiplayer modes such as versus battles (1 to 4 players per side, 2 sides) and 1v1 campaigns (co-op or versus), there will be some additional features added in here including a neat MP battlefield selector which we will be talking about soon. However, the Avatar Conquest mode from SHOGUN 2 will not be returning in ROME II; we believe we can create a much more compelling persistent multi-player offering for Total War that will appeal to multi-player fans with Total War: ARENA, and we’ll be bringing you more on that at a later date (get involved with the beta for ARENA here). Perhaps things will change or some things they havent revealed yet will come into play, but i doubt it ![]()

It's going to be modable on a very small scale, just as Shogun 2 had been. Otherwise they would have sold increased modability as some good new feature. So people will be limited to changing a few parameters. Let's hope that for the first time in 10 years they release a game with a working AI, so that at least that offers something else than yet again failed dreams for something epic. If you don't agree with their idea of making their games really modding unfriendly, don't buy.

If you don't agree with their idea of making their games really modding unfriendly, don't buy. Mean absolutely no offense to the stellar modding community, but this takes precedence to me over moddability. Having an intelligent computer opponent and accurate unit interactions is more important to me than if the game can be third-party-altered. CA should make a game as flawless as they can, not ship something less-than-their-best but with some tools to let the community figure out how to improve the game. That said, I hope CA is able to provide both a robust A.I. and an impressive versatility for modders (I predict Steam Workshop to be their best bet), but I'd sacrifice the latter if I had to choose only one of those.

I don't know about game developing, but is the AI stuff one of the hardest to do in this kind of big budget games? What is the challange for these guys?
