Is Eureka trying to be like a regular zone in FFXI or is it something like Dynamis?

Insanely well made teaser trailer, more or less viera confirmed and Blue Mage as a "limited job" for 4.5. Guess we will have to wait until the letter from the producer tomorrow to really know what will come. All in all still quite happy though.

I'm pretty excited for Viera, but there is talk that instead of ff12 Fran, we might get a shorter, kiddy looking bunny race. That makes me much less excited ![]() Also excited to see if gunblade/dancer classes are real and how they'll work as tank/healer. See what new class mechanics they will bring to the table. Idk about gunblade, but dancer has been big on party buffs in the past final fantasy games, so I assume it'll take on a function similar to AST. I'm also a sucker for those 2 aesthetically, and I'm highly confident I'll be playing one of the two on launch. All in all I'm sufficiently hyped and eager for more to come.

Very very curious how the MSQ will link up to what we can speculate on the Shadowbringers Trailer.... Also the music keeps being amazing as usual :D Seiryu looks a bit goofy but his battle theme got me going. Trailer:

There is a nice offer on twitch right now: www.gamespot.com From now until May 3, Twitch Prime users can download the Final Fantasy XIV: Starter Edition on PC at no charge. The Starter Edition includes the base game, which allows users to play up through level 50, as well as a free 30-day subscription to the game. As with other Twitch Prime games, Final Fantasy XIV: Starter Edition will be yours to keep forever, but you'll need to subscribe in order to continue playing once the free 30-day period ends. To claim your free copy, simply click on the crown-shaped Prime Loot icon on Twitch's website. You can find additional details on Square Enix's website. Square Enix recently confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion, Shadowbringers, will launch for PS4 and PC on July 2. The expansion will introduce a load of new content to the game, including new dungeons, environments, and classes, including the Gunbreaker. The expansion will also allow players to play as a Viera, the rabbit-like race Final Fantasy XII's Fran belonged to. Maybe I check this out. Anyone still playing or would be interested to check this out with me?

This last story patch wasn't really exciting at all. I think their overall pitch for the expansion's premise is incredibly weak, as far as story/zones go. They revealed the premise behind the different shards back in ARR, and I find it neat that we get to go see how different they are from our own. They definitely did not pace the story right leading up to it though. I miss the ominous endings we had in ARR and HW. This feels a bit too open ended, and if they didn't explain everything that was happening at fanfest then I wouldn't have guessed most of what is going on. They needed more story buildup going into Shb.

i'm curious about what your guys' experiences of this game were up until this point. i raided frequently and that time spent is nostalgic and all, but i've come to realize that a good population of the players (at least on NA gilgamesh) are really quite odd in a mostly negative way. i don't know if you guys share the same thought. and although the trials and high end content are cool and friends still play, i can't shake the feelings from doing pick up groups or dealing with egos. on the far side of the spectrum you have people who pay for runs, gear, and even parse-runs to make themselves feel better. sitting somewhere in the same space are people who play for community and RP and all. however on the very opposite end, and the types i dealt with the most, you have the guys who sell the runs, or want to. the type that cares way too much about parse logs but don't have the know-how to play well without sacrificing the team or causing wipes. orange/gold runs or bust. this was prevalent through the last patches i played. somewhere along the line, that helped to completely lose the fun of it for me. as a min-maxer and DPS myself, i never understood that. if you play well and learn well, your numbers will always be high anyway. it's almost in the same vein as looking at your dota GPM or starcraft APM and doing things specifically to just have this number while losing focus on most other things. yes, to have that number you must be playing well and have good basics but it's still really just silly. if you are reaching a certain number it certainly means you're getting catered to like having a dragon kick slave or a very specific composition or have certain cards used on you always. everybody deep enough into the game understands these things, and yet it furthers the culture of being selfish and setting up parse runs and players acting in certain ways in pick up groups, border-lining insufferable. using their mics wrong, calling people out over dumb stuff while contributing little else. just basically the worst dota player you can think of. it's not as if the game was ever so hard (minus the newer content with 10m+ fights). it was about setting up a strategy and executing with contingencies, or showing up on time and making sure you learn properly, sometimes making sacrifices and doing mechanics so more of the fight can be seen more often. i don't know why the numbers idea began to take over the players' enjoyment of the game because personally my enjoyment was doing the content comfortably and you know, helping the odd person here and there, but it was all mostly to talk to the people i played with. the worst are the players who have finally reached their goal and lord their number over everyone else like a status as if to justify the hundreds attempts they put into something (that btw, very well could have been accomplished by someone better or more diligent in a fraction the time). no, it's not a skillful game once you reach a certain point. the game for me was an excuse to connect to people and over time the long and repetitive patch cycles ruined that for me. whenever we do consider going back, the focus invariably goes to the numbers and how the DPS (read: healers and tanks also) rate themselves against each other. and if they can't do that, they go over to fflogs and find someone they can compare to. in my not so humble opinion, that's become a very shallow way of playing an interactive game. i'm pretty sad that's the direction that shaped how some of my raids spoke to one another (including finger pointing, random drama, etc.), especially when it doesn't matter. i remember feeling lucky as a younger self being able to make friends online and just be able to play something together. sitting and listening to atmosphere and music and being able to link real life memories to in game events in order to build the nostalgia in the first place.
