They're not even remotely similar games other than being from a top view, and you control units and buildings.

Prediction.
CoH2 will be to the franchise what C&C4 was to the C&C Franchise if THQ and Relic are still alive in 2013.
I don't think THQ and Relic have the cash required to invest in a solid balanced multiplayer game with 2+ diverse factions.
The single player might be good though.

when you buy a copy of the UK PCGamer magazine they throw in a free copy of the original CoH.

hopefully we'll get a trailer tomorrow :D

I played this game for like 2-3 years off and on. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, Relic's lacked of support turned me away in the end. There were bugs in the game, and probably still are, that took years to acknowledge let alone fix. I dont expect it to be much of a competitive game tbh, the features they're talking about here are more geared towards realism like in Men of War.

I'll still get it though cause I love the era and Relic usually makes fun games with good mechanics, but for my competitive fix i'll be looking else where.

reading stuff like this makes me sad

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-05-07-thq-hopes-company-of-heroes-2-will-boost-bottom-line?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=european-daily

RTS titles like WC3 and SC2 succeed commercially because they appeal to a world wide audience.
The CoH universe garners zero interest outside of Europe and North America.
THQ is not properly equipped to market and sell to the eastern hemisphere.

If THQ is counting on serious money from CoH2 then its another big miscalculation. Korea, China, etc etc will not play this game.

RTS games' best profits accrue outside Europe and North America.

The only thing that really worries me about CoH2 is the fact that the original CoH team hasn't been with Relic in a long time, and the products they released in Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor were lackluster compared to the original.

to be brutal here...
all of Relic's highest priced and best talent has moved on.

the only guys left at Relic are making low $$$ that makes almost their entire salary subsidized by the government of British Columbia.

Well, the title will definitively go well in eastern Europe and Russia, thats for sure. If the game sold well there as well as in America and the rest of Europe, I think it could turn out to be a pretty good investment for them. Youd don't necessarily need to sell bigtime in Asia to make a buck, I don't think.
Blizzards games might be holding the throne of RTS games, but Relic's are the runner-up. Homeworld 1+2, CoH and DoW were amazing games and I don't think they're gonna screw this one up (at this point in time its all speculation, obviously).

if you manufacture top of the line ice hockey equipment where do you want to sell it?

Ohio, Pennsylvania and Britain?

Or

Canada, Sweden and Russia?

that's the scale of difference involved here.
The big money is in in the eastern hemisphere. NA and Europe are small time players.

I guess we'll find out May 15th

Nah he was dick, same with everyone else in his clan.

i was a "nobody" and he was always cool with me and my "nobody" friends.

Well good for you and your 'nobody' friends.

Nice that you accuse a nice guy of being a dick for no reason then precede to be a total dick to someone.

no they are not. NA and Europe have always been the biggest markets for western developers and that is not going to change. Sadly I could not find detailed country sales for SC2 but Blizzard confirmed that in on launch day 1.2 million accounts were activated 600k were from the US. This means 50% of the total sales on launch were in NA. I'll try to find more detailed numbers but you are wrong if you think Asia would be the biggest market.

The asian market is mostly filled with f2p games, PCbangs and shitty homecomputers that are not on the same level like computers in NA or Europe. This means hardware demanding titles do not sell as much in asia and will most likely get played in PCbangs that probably do not pay any money to the developer.

So while there are a lot of asians they only pay a fraction of what the NA and Europe pay.

The second expansion should have been about the eastern front, and then CoH2 on the Pacific.

Instead they went for a MOBA style expansion and a microtransaction based game, ignoring that WW2 is the least casual theme ever. Now they have to hold the weight of the sequel with soviets, which pretty much no one likes.

On the other hand the engine still looks awesome (better than SC2 IMO) so development costs should be low.

Serious? lol. Sure.

Personally, I'm disappointed they stuck with WWII. I've always thought CoH could have been amazing in a cold war or modern setting with helicopters and gunship call-ins etc. If they're still in the 40's, though, nobody's more awesome than Russia.

Super excited about this, I just played through the first game again and I never really played the game for its multiplayer except with friends every once in a while so that doesn't really worry me.
Also the eastern front is easily the most interesting part of the war in my opinion, I just hope they can convey the massive amounts of Soviet losses and their heroism even from civilians in the way that it should be shown.

And I hope they convey the fact that Russia started the II World War together with Germany. That Eastern Europe was first raped and pillaged by Germans, and then raped and pillaged by Soviets. Americans often have that image of Red Army being some white knight that saved the day. Soviet Union did what it did out of necessity, because it was betrayed by 3rd Reich.

it remains to be seen if THQ can continue to fund Relic.
THQ can't raise money through NASDAQ any longer.
They are living strictly off of the money from sales of titles.

UFC 3 sold only 340,000 copies in its first month.
WWE '12 sales fell 25% compared to last year.

Understandably, Relic is having problems retaining their best employees.

did the "Soviet Union" or USSR or 3-C-P-1 or whatever it was called exist in 1941?

Yes, Soviets had border problems with Poland and Finland, they wanted to solve them + they didnt want war with germany so they were in pact, they didnt rape Eastern europe nor those countries, they were just part of invasion(Winter war with finland is different story tho...it goes way back and basicly is unrelated to nazi/communists)
