Yes. Here's how it worked in HnH and i imagine it will be something similar in salem. When you commit a crime you left behind something called a scent, the worse the crime the longer is stayed around. Someone with the proper skills can see and collect samples of the scent and 'track' it. Tracking it would give you an arrow that pointed in the direction of their hearth (similar to a bindstone in wow, except you can put it anywhere), as long as their hearth wasn't somewhere protected ie behind a palisade (which would require you to knock it down to get to the hearth) you could perform a 'summoning' using the scent and the hearth and kill their character even while offline. Alternatively if the character was online when tracking the scent would point to them instead (i think). Some of that might be a bit off it's been a while since i last played, but that's the general gist of how it worked.

Yes, you did. Otherwise people could just make an alt to commit all their crimes and then just leave him logged off until the "scents" expire so no-one could track and kill them. The mechanics for salem are not certain yet, but in Haven and Hearth, if you are tracking someone who is offline, the scent leads you to their "hearth fire" - you can only summon them there. This leads to people making sure their hearth fire is well protected, by several layers of wall. In haven this is a problem since the siege system is not very well balanced, but this is an issue that the devs have promised to address for Salem. edit: ninja'd

Just looking through someones claim or knocking him out for fun leaves scents too which can be tracked, but they can not summon you while offline.

Right now, in Haven, you leave one too, but i dont know if it will be the same in Salem. But since the guy is offline, you can use a lowskilled alt which you are not afraid too lose. Ultimately, the best defense is having a tight security in your village though. That means, first of all, to have a strong wall up, which prevents people from entering your village, but that doesnt help against betrayal obviously (hey, who left the gate open????) and to have people specialize in combat and come to your defense if you get attacked nearby.

Yes, you'll leave one 2, but that shouldn't really be a problem. Mostly when people find murder scents, they'll try to find out if the kill was justified or not. In H&H you would also have these "rangers" that would track these unjustified murders. For a price mostly ofcourse

For a price mostly ofcourse Most of the "good" players in haven are gone, now people don't care if kills are justified or not for the most part & will just summon and kill you for your loot if your hearth is unprotected (me being one exception, i still play a ranger-type character). Hopefully there will be enough decent players in Salem to make these things less common.

Mine was instant, don't forget the e-mails have to be confirmed as well so if you just sign up with 3 email accounts, you've got to go in and click the verification links that are sent.
