maybe some1 here would write some examples. tho i think sumone said no1 knows how itl work yet Ok heres how it works in Hnh and i assume it will be (99%) the same in Salem because they said so.
Someone is malicious person (A) and skilled all the black arts and trained his combat skills. You and youre friends (B) are peaceful bunch of villagers. Your village has defense to speak off, anyone can walk around because there are no walls. However your houses have claims, so accessing them is considered a crime. A finds your village and decides that he is gonna loot your shit. He enters your house, leaves scents of trespassing. He finds precious gold in your chest, which he decides to steal and leaves scents of theft. All this happens while you are offline. He leaves your village and continues on his journey, but gets tired after a while and logs off. Enter You. As you log on you notice something is not right. The gold you are sure you put in your chest is gone. Did one of your friends take it? You ask around. No one admits to have taken it. You get suspicious. You write a forum post and ask for help. A friendly ranger offers his help. You guide him to your village. He sees there are scents near your chest (the tresspassing scents, being only a minor crime, have expired by now). He picks up the scents. He agrees to retaliate for you, if you pay him. You pay. He is eager to find A's hearthfire in order to summon and kill him while A is offline. He tracks the scents. They lead to a stronghold in the mountains. Several layers of brickwall surrounded by cliffs. Impossible to penetrate. End of story, perpetrator is safe.
Example B You're a citizen of a big city, perfectly safe surrounded by walls and shit. However, you decide to go out. You walk around in the forest looking for fruits and whatnot on the ground. Suddenly you get assaulted by a guy in casual dress with only a club. He knocks you out. He loots your body. He looks down on you. He continues to crush your head with his club. You are dead. You login your alt and go to the place where you got killed. You see the scents and pick them up. You wait till the guy has logged off (the scents tell you if someone is logged in or not). You track him down. Fortunately for you, the guy lives on his own in the woods, completely unguarded. You summon and kill him. You leave murder scents. Someone else find them coincidentally. He tracks the scents back to your town, but decides its not worth the effort to tear down your wall. You are safe.

Although this is the way it worked in HnH, I recall it being said in the forums that jorb and loftar wanted to change defense mechanics so that it wasnt all or nothing (wall or nothing). I dont know what they plan to do but its just a thought.

oh i see,
its BECAUSE this game is perm death that they decided to add this extra mechanic to make it more interesting
( though in my opinion it doesnt make sense and is completely unecessary and isnt interesting and actually detracts from the game)
|
anyone know what kind of specs were looking at for this game by the way? it looks like it could be a low graphical/maintenance game which would be nice but not really sure.

when you are trying to simulate real life logging out to avoid punishment makes it unrealistic, don't you think? that's the reason for extra mechanic.

expect a lot of CPU power needed tho, H&H was 2d and was pretty heavy on the CPU if I'm not mistaken. But this might be build on a real game engine ? And not fully on java
and the summon mechanic is definitely needed, but when your hearthstone is behind walls it's hard to get killed ofcourse. And you have to build these battering rams to to get walls down, but these rams took like 12hours for the glue to dry. So you still have time to react and maybe to even go destroy the ram when they're offline.

if you do a crime(stealing, murder, trespassing) you leave scents, with these scents you can track people. If they aren't online you can track their hearthstone (which is your spawning place) and summon them and kill them that way. But you can protect your hearthstone by it being behind walls/palisades .
I'm getting so excited by this game just by talking about it. So sad diablo 3 is coming out soon too.
