A slash into a sideroll slash is an amazing combo. I'd say Katanas are the best weapon by far, any damage that is negated by its slash damage is more than made up for with an easy bleed. Faith dex builds work because dex gives you a faster casting speed. I'm doing one myself and all you need is 30 faith for the majority of spells + sunlit/darkmoon blade (the most powerful enhancer). Any dex weapon, from daggers to curved, katanas and rapiers upped to +15 and an enhancer does a loooot of damage. You can even add in a shortbow or a Darkmoon bow (dex/faith scaling) for more variety. Any weapon is viable, you just need practice with it and understand what and who your opponent is. Daggers are viable without backstab if you can slip in 1-3 hits per enemy swing and even bust a parry. Way to quote out of context. I did say that knowing moveset very well and how to dodge is more important than the weapon used in the next post. I've used katanas a lot, and I said they can be made to work, they just aren't the most useful, that doesn't mean they don't work or can't be used. Even the speed of a katana won't often hit(or bleed) someone who knows how to dodge well(you may notice sometimes with good dodges it makes sounds like you hit someone but no damage is done. If this attack would make someone bleed, you hear a blood loss sound, but they don't bleed and their bar is emptied). Most of the popular heavier weapons have just as much if not greater reach and are still pretty quick to swing, and will also stagger opponents easily so they can't really be blocked much. The great thing about dark souls though is that almost every weapon is viable to use, so long as you understand the mechanics of how to use it and how to dodge(except maybe the whips, in 300+ hours of pvp I've never seen a single person use them ![]()

I decided to stop entertaining him and just let him hit me with that pathetic thing whilst I poked holes in him.

I'm new to this whole actual character building stuff, I got 30 VIT and some STR and END but I really have no idea where to go from there. I'm not really the person to tell others what to do in this game, since I'm new myself, but I've been using a Claymore almost entirely, and it has worked quite well. Just make sure you keep it upgraded. Though if you want to use a 1h and shield instead of a 2h and shield, I don't really know.

Basically you want to find yourself a black knight weapon and upgrade it as much as you can, at least thats what I did. Im using a black knights halberd and its a pretty good weapon.

I've been trying to get summoned to earn some humanity, and we actually beat them few times, but it happens very rarely. Don't know what to do, as I can't improve my weapons, so only thing is to farm souls and lvl up. If you need more humanity you can always run down to the depths with a covetous gold serpent ring on and farm humanity from rats. They drop it all the time. The slimes outside the bonfire are also a good place to farm titanite if your weapons are under upgraded.

If you're up to Ornstein and Smough, you technically have the ability to make really good weapons, such as a +5 lightning weapon, or at least a +10 normal weapon, which should be good enough to beat them. This is of course assuming you "unlocked" the giant blacksmith. It also depends on level and the rest of your gear, but it's one of the harder fights in the game, so you should probably min-max as much as possible. I beat it myself using a +3 or so lightning claymore without any summons, it was all about abusing the columns to fight them one at a time, killing Ornstein first since he's harder in the second phase.

The big one usally gets me with his attack when he slams the hammer down and starts running, I always underestimate the reach of the final swing.

If you got the large ember then Andre in the Undead Parish can upgrade it to +10. In the boss fight try positioning yourself between the boss and one of those pillars, even if it gets destroyed they will end their attack on the stub that is sticking up. You should also have a shield and enough endurance to block attacks safely on their first stage. If you have a phantom they should be able to distract one of the bosses while you kill the other one, they aren't very strong by themselves.

I'm in the same seat as you, out of humanity and getting my ass kicked. Are you able to block Smough's attacks fully? I can take his strongest attack without breaking, and usually Ornstein is trapped behind him so I can just back off and let my stamina regen. I THINK that rolling to the left just as Smough approaches you with the hammer and keeping the block button pressed will block it, but I'm not sure. I might be mistaken, so don't trust me!

Is it possible to get out of Anor Londo before killing the boss? Because at this point I would gladly backtrack to undead parish. Thanks for the advices, will try them out tomorrow. I've bought the game Friday afternoon and have put 30 hours in it over the weekend. Don't remember the last time I had this much fun with the game. Altough Sen's fortress this morning was a real test, don't know how many times I died there. Scalepad, what shield are you wearing? He staggers me, so it gives chance to Ornsteint to get close up.

If you go back to the beginning of the level to where those bat demon guys dropped you off you can talk to them and they will take you back to the top of Sen's fortress and from there you can take the elevator down to that first axe bridge which is very near Andre.

Well, it'll take you some time but the giant smith does in fact sell the cheapest Large Titanite Shards IIRC so you might want to buy the neccesary amount and high-tail it back to andre to get your weapon to +10

In general, I highly recommend just getting enough STR/DEX (and whatever else) necessary to wield your weapon of choice, and then going straight to 40 END and 40 VIT. I prefer END first for equip load. 40 is the "soft cap" for most (all?) stats. Then you can up your STR/DEX to get more dps out of your weapon depending on how it scales.

Black Knight Shield +2. As I said, I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I can block all of it. I'm too lazy to go clear all the mobs and try it out for you right now though. :<
