will do. Imma start raising my dex again from now on.
max level is 200 right? any of u guys reach 200?

dont worry about that, there is no reason whatsoever to get anywhere near that level unless your a really hardcore pvper

also- stat scaling after 40~ suffers from SEVERE diminishing returns, so there is not much point raising a single stat much further then that.

Its a lot more powerful than the drake sword if you upgrade it just a little and has an awesome moveset.

oh and I should explain the way I got so many souls; it is very simple. you go to darkroot and open the door using the crest of artorias. there will be 4 NPCs inside the new area. You get them to chase you and they will jump off a cliff. 9k souls. the best thing is there is a bonfire right next to the cliff they jump off at...so u can do this again and again. I can get 100k in less than 30 minutes. so if u ever need to grind for something and want it quickly, do this! there is another better way to get souls, but I havent reached it yet.

The reason the Drake Sword is a "newbie trap" is because it does high base damage (200), making it very powerful for when you get it, but its scaling is intentionally poor. Usually a weapon will increase in power by 10% with each upgrade, but the Drake Sword only increases in power by 0.5% per upgrade AND requires very rare Dragon Scales. Additionally, it has no stat scaling, which is what allows weaker weapons to become viable.
Aside from the Drake Sword, pretty much all the weapons in the game are balanced at max stats and upgrades. Some deal more damage per hit but are slower, some deal less damage but have secondary effects like bleed or poison. Some have special moveset characteristics (the Channeler's Trident casts a buff as its two-handed strong attack, Havel's Greatshield casts a defensive buff instead of a shield bash, and so on), some have extra bonus damage on backstabs/ripostes, some prevent undead resurrection. There are so many different options and they each have strengths and weaknesses.

A big reason why people recommend you to switch weapons is just so you can see different movesets and figure out what you like. Otherwise people end up using Drake Sword -> Lightning Spear and then they have no clue what they actually like when both of those feel like crap. You can literally just play around, see what moveset suits you and then be confident that the weapon will scale well enough until the very end.
Personally, if this is your first playthrough, I recommend so called "quality builds" just to be able to see the most in one go. Idea is that you get your str/dex up to at least 28/40 (40/40 is perfectly fine as well) just so you can handle most weapons in the game at least two-handed and just instantly pick something up and smack some heads in with it.

Very important: Don't neglect Endurance or Vitality. They are pretty important to make everything easier. More gear, more blocking, more life.

ghahh the last boss on ng+ is kinda rough, the parry timing can be a bit tricky and using healing potions after parry-attack is impossible, my beloved parry dagger!

I've never really supported this, simply because "just picking up and using" a weapon is never practical since everything will feel terrible when not upgraded. By the time you're far enough in to pick up something new and interesting after using something for a while, that first something you're holding will probably (SHOULD) have significant upgrades or an elemental path, in which case the stock weapon you test out will always feel rough. Sure it's a good way to test the move set, but it's the same reason people think the drake sword is so good, just because when STOCK, everything else does less damage. That quickly reverses after a solid +5 and especially +10/ele upgrades on the "normal" weapons

Max level is actually closer to 700. Max level is when all of your stats have hit 99, so it varies based on starting class. Most chars don't level past 90-140 range for basic mainstat+vit+end builds (140 build being someone that probably has 2 mainstats and can do pretty much anything).

For PvP the SL goal used to be 125 for PS3/XBOX and 120 for PC. If you don't care about PvP it doesn't matter, I recommend using your first char to level everything and try out stuff.

I beat the Game yesterday. And all started with me wanting to "try out the controls" to pepare for DS2, lol. The start was very hard, but the Game had a breakpoint where it got so much easier. After Ornstein and Smough, when I got my shiny gold Ornstein Armor and my Uchigata+15 ...everything went down so fast. Killed Seath and the 4 Kings both first Try. The most annoying part of the Game was all the enviroment: Tomb of the Giants where you could not see the Hand before your Eye, Sen's Fortress where I died like 15 times or fucking Blighttown. -_-
37hrs and a Level80 Char is enough prep for DS2 for now, I guess. Too bad I played the first Half of the Game in 30fps and without HD Textures. The Game is 10 times better in 60fps.

What mods/fixes do you need to play it on 60 fps?
|
You have to install DSFix and then edit the DSfix.ini file.

There are ramifications though, since the game is structured like a fighting game with a fixed framerate, hitboxes, and invulnerability frames for things like rolling. It's possible that DSFix just doubles everything, but you never know whether there will be gaps. I never played the 60fps mode for that reason.

Welp, apparently GFWL stopped saving my games. I got a first try BKH and had to quit because I missed killing a lizard. When I go back to load the save file, it simply isn't there. GG, RIP first try BKH.

I'm playing a little NG+ now and want to try out some other weapons. But whats the Deal with Magic Weapons. I feel like they are all bad, because you lose your Dex/Str Scaling.
