What is it with this video being posted on every page of every dark soul thread on TL. It isnt educational, it isnt funny.
Whats up with it? O.o (I mean feel free to crack on with it i just dont understand it ^^)
It's humorous satire...
Alluding to builds where people used ultra-heavy armor and big swords with Havel ring + Ninja ring back before it got changed. Meaning you got the Ninja flip and fast run speed at any equip load below 50%. The build in the video is specifically after the ninja ring nerf, so it's a build where you can still get <25% equip with Giant's armor and a Zweihander, for mindless PvP SWING FOR THE FENCES!!
Most of his other videos are great too, all just silly builds and PvP fun. This one is just way way way more popular for some reason....
Sorry for bumping, but I bought Dark Souls a while ago, played like an hour of it then quit cause the controls are just godawful and make the game unplayable for me.
I downloaded DSFix and installed it, but the controls are still shitty/doesn't seem to have changed much. Is there anything specific I need to do or are there additional mods for the game that I should be using?
Use a controller, preferably a PS3 or Xbox 360 controller. You may need to use a third-party program like MotionInJoy to have your controller properly register as an input device on your PC.

Don't get a ps3 controller. The PS4 ones are better in pretty much every way and the software to make them work on PC is 100 times better.

Controls are shit. Either learn to use a controller, or man-up and go with the M+K. The game is quite beatable that way, but you just have to do without lock-ons. Use a weapon that doesn't require them.

Peasantbox360 Controller is perfect for PC. I never had to use a tool or config anything with my Controller. Just plug it in, start the Game and play.
Nah, some games just work better with a controller, this is one of them. Even if the K&M controls wouldn't be horrible, it would still work better with a controller. And a controller is not such a gigantic investment anyways.
PS3 controller always worked fine for all my needs, 360 might have better support and the PS4 controller might be better (dunno never used it) but the PS3 controller has always stood solid for me.
I couldn't get my bluetooth working properly though but i think it was my onboard-bluetooth being shitty. It works 100% fine when wired for all games.
Dark souls is a game that is enjoyed roughly infinity times more with a controller, no matter how playable you think K&M controls are.
I really recommend using a controller for all solo-games tbh, you can just sit back and relax with a controller, its great!
From the game footage I've seen so far, is this just a bunch of super difficult boss-fights, or is it like Zelda where you have an actual world to explore?
You got a pretty big world you have to explore filled with monsters you got to kill. There are no puzzles like in Zelda. The game leaves you lost in this big world and doesn't help you by pointing out where you should go. The toughness of the enemies are a pretty good indicator if you are running correctly. But multiple paths can be taken to finish the game.

It isn't bossfight after bossfight at all.
That sounds insanely cool. Gotta give it a go if it runs on my computer.
Make sure you keep in touch with this thread, because the PC port for the original Dark Souls is pretty poor. You'll want to download enhancement mods like DSFix and it's highly recommended to use a controller/gamepad rather than keyboard+mouse before you start playing.

Right, because installing xinputwrapper is so hard. /roll eyes. Controllers are all personal preference, can't really say which is "better" just because you don't enjoy it.

Try xinputwrapper, its a program that has bluetooth support for a wide selection of models. When you're installing it just make sure you have "bluetooth driver" checked. The only downside is you can't use the bluetooth for anything else except the controllers.
Its pretty easy to install- Make sure you have .net framework 4.5, and the xbox controller drivers installed. Then just run the xinputwrapper once and you're done. After that anytime you connect a xbox, ps3, ps4 controller via usb it'll auto sync to the bluetooth(only supports 4 controllers at once max) and will stay synced to it until you plug it back into the console or another pc with xinputwrapper installed.
It also auto configs a lot of emulators and such for it(I can speak specifically to ZSNES, Dolphin, FCEUX, and Project64) Ive had to maybe manually configure 1 thing since installing it. Personally its way better then motionjoy even though I appreciate the years of service motionjoy gave me.
I managed to get Dark Souls to run and just finished the tutorial.
Can anyone explain to me what humanity is about? I found a couple of humanity items and have no clue if I should use them or what that would accomplish.
Also, are there any repercussions to using a campfire frequently?

I don't know everything to answer your question fully but these are things I do know:
Positive: Humanity gives you the possibillity to "kindle" campfires. Which means that when you use them your flask will be replenished up to 10 charges instead of 5. Or even higher when you "kindle" more times but this requires an item. Humanity also gives you a higher drop chance on items from mobs. Humanity makes it possible for you to summon help from AI heroes. They help you a lot on certain bosses. I suggest reading a guide on where these summon places are, and on which bosses you can use them.
Negative: Humanity makes it possible that other players invade you and steal your humanity. You will never win against these players (as newb) because they are gaming the system to give them free wins. So you will most likely die when you play online and have humanity.
----
Using a campfire respawns all mobs in the world. There is no other repercussion I think.

having points in humanity gives more chance to drop items, more curse resistance, more defense and some weapons do more dmg the more humanity you have. human form allows you to summon helping npcs for bossfights. dont waste all humanity tho if you want to get a certain covenant, you need humanity for some of them.
