Humanity is reflected by a little number in the upper left corner, most of the time it will say 00. Using Humanity items or going on long monster killstreaks will increase this number. The higher the number, the greater your item drop chance and curse resistance. Having a Humanity rating of greater than 00 doesn't make you human.

If you're sitting at a bonfire, Reversing Hollowing and Kindling each cost 1 Humanity from your rating. Reversing Hollowing turns you human, which allows you to summon both NPCs and other players but also opens you up to invasion from other players. You'll know you're human because your appearance beneath your armor will change and a white glow will appear over your Humanity rating. Being human essentially opens up all the active multiplayer features of the game. Kindling a bonfire increases your max amount of Estus charges from that bonfire by 5, stacking up to 3 times once you progress further in the game. You do need to be human to Kindle.

One more thing, the humanity items that you find can be consumed to give you the Humanity that Excalibur_Z is talking about. They are not lost when you die, or through anything else. Humanity counter IS lost when you die, but may be retrieved like your souls lying on the ground.

Generally speaking, i'd highly suggest to never be in human form except to kindle a bonfire. Especially in beginner areas there are a lot of dickwads who did a low level playthrough and have basically absurd gear who will slaughter you remorselessly.

There are some items that you will miss by not being human, though. At some points in the game you will be invaded by NPC phantoms if you are human, which gives you some stuff that mostly looks stylish. Though i would completely ignore this on your first playthrough, unless you want to look up the exact locations. You can simply not afford to constantly be human, you need your humanities to kindle stuff.

Special note, you cannot farm humanity if you have killed the boss in specific area, and not all enemies provide humanity. However, you can farm it off of the rats in the Depths as full drops. Also humanity gives you a higher drop rate, stating at a 50% increase for the first point(displayed on your character stats screen). Therefore, when farming humanity off the rats, its best to use your first humanity to increase your drop rate.

If you need to find out which enemies provide passive humanity, just search for "farming humanity" in google and it should show you exactly who provides how much.

Gaping Dragon? He is insanely easy. Just learn his moves. He has one where he rears up, smashes down and charges, one where he swings his tail around, and i think that is about it (It's hard to remember, if i were fighting him i would know what preparation leads to which attack, but without that i can't tell atm). Stay on his side, hit his legs, look at what he does and move backwards in time if he does one of the moves that can hurt you there. You can easily and very safely take as much time as you want watching him, by simply NOT ever being close or in front of him. At some point you will see which pattern leads to which attack.

Actually you can wait for him to charge and if you have good knowledge of how far he will go, you can stop at one point, watch him coming at you and stop and just hit him in the...nose? Or whatever the thing is. It does more damage than hitting him in other parts, but it's obviously more risky since you need to position yourself perfectly for it.

Its actually pretty good, but it really depends on the time of day i think. The most consistant places for invasions is still the forest and the townshit, but that doesn't mean you won't get a random invasion here and there along the way.

I saw someone twinking the other day when i was showing my friend the game, actually made me happy.

EDIT: okay anyone else suddenly finding mouse support is gone?

According to the DS subreddit, it's as good as it ever was. Plenty of people to invade/get invaded by. Granted, I haven't played it since the update so I'm just going on hearsay.

Aw dayum, no more GFWL! Now if only I could remember my login and password to transfer saved games

Also, I bought new computer after I stopped playing DS, so I'm ready for new visual experiance!! Except for Blighttown.

I wanted to play new game as a heavy knight in shining armor with a shield, but I always end up fighting bosses naked for max mobility with 2h weapon or two hand grip for max dmg. Habits be damned!

So much better.. the DSFix is a massive improvement as well if you enable 60 fps.

It's good, with DS2 a lot of people discovered DS1, and even more because of the switch to steam

Hey guys, how can I change game language now that it runs from steam and not gfwl? Back with windows I changed my computer language to eng and it worked for the game, but it doesn't seem to be the case now. Help
