What a bunch of assholes, doing that to the guy (guys?) that fixed their game for them, for free.

Well i know for sure that i won't be buying the DS2 DLC, ever. Sadly i already bought DS2 at launch and can't unbuy it now. A reasonable move would have been to at least thank and congratulate, and maybe even hire the guy who made their game so much better for free without even having access to their sourcecode. Instead they complain about it and try to get it shut down? (Btw probably on pretty shaky legal grounds, but once again shows just how bullshit the way copyright currently works is. Company complains that you violate their copyright means that YOU have to prove that you don't, while they don't have to prove that you actually violate anything in any way whatsoever. Guilty until proven innocent best way to handle things. Fuck copyright laws and greedy insane companies abusing it)

A little backstory: This is my very 1st playthrough of DS, only having experience with Lords of the Fallen prior to this game (as a genre archetype). I got a few tips from a friend about early game like picking the master key and obtaining the Draken Sword. Also to be prepared to die a lot. a. lot. Chose Warrior at the start because I thought his armor looked most useful - leather instead of full plate for better rolling animation (weigh concern) but providing better defense than all leather/cloth starter. So I'm sitting at a bonfire in Darkroot Basin after defeating the vile Hydra, being level 33 and having some odd ~13K souls to my name, contemplation my life so far. My stats are: + Show Spoiler + ![]() I currently use: Drake Sword / Black Knight Shield OR Grass Crest Shield Zweihander/Claymore Crimson Robe full set Wolf and Havel's Rings aaaand I'm a bit lost. First of all upgrading - is it even worth upgrading the stuff I have? I'm torn between clay/zwei and saw some pretty badass weapons down the line like Gargoyle Halberd and Lucerne and ofc all the Black Knight weapons ( I got the Halberd for now) and even saw people being badass with weapons I thought were trash like Balder's Blade (in general raprier swords). Also I saw people in Elite Knight's gear get faster dodge rolls than I get naked... 2nd thing - parrying and backstabbing. I do not understand how people execute these. I mean from a concept level I get them: Parry enemy attack before it lands and get a critical yourself. Backstab from behind for max damage. I landed exactly 2 parries (all lucky button mashing mind you) in 16 hours of play. Backstabs are even worse. How the hell do you people roll over or behind an enemy? How? Some shit tier opponents like skeletons or Balders sure, but consistently on Havel? Really? I had to dance naked with him for 15 minutes to get my dodge rolls off before he painted the floor with me and dealt 30/36 to him each time. It was hit for hit. He missed, I went in for a stab and rolled away. Death by papercuts. Do you people not keep distance between yourselves and your opponent or what? My current strategy is to always have my shield up, absorb attack, and counter with my own. Repeat until 1 of us is dead. 3rd thing - magic... sorcery, pyro and miracles. I thought I was a badass. I'm not. I need help. Which should I go for? I freed the sorcery guy, haven't killed Kappa demon to get to pyro and miracoli fatass is always available. Ok rant over. Some "fun" stats of mine: + Show Spoiler + Bosses: Asylum Deamon: 1st try Taurus Deamon: 2nd try Gargoyles: 13th try (... with help from Solaire) Moonlight Butterfly: 2nd try Havel: 8th try Hydra: 2nd try (1st try got too close and drowned on last head...)

About parrying and backstabbing, are you talking PvE or PvP? In PvE, you just need to know enemies' animations and time your parry right; in PvP, lagg makes it really hard to get clean parries. Backstabbing is situational, some slow enemies are easy to BS, some are pretty much impossible. Magics are really odd to use, I haven't played much with them, just used some pyros (mainly power within or whatever it's name is, the one that buffs your damage but slowly eats away your health).

Weapon upgrades, definitively. Except for the highest tier, shards become very easy to get later in the game, so don't feel bad for wasting a few shards/large shards on something you won't use. Also, opposed to what you might expect, later weapons are not better. All weapons are roughly equally balanced, with the choice being mostly what you prefer to use and how you want to build your character. Especially in PvE. So try a few weapons, and see which one you enjoy the attack animations of most. Parrying, as said before, simply work on it. Don't try to clear an area, just stand in front of a dude and try to parry him, until you can get it done consistantly. There is no magic formula (Except for "Don't block the weapon, block the hand"). Learn how things attack, and when you need to parry. With a bit of practice you can do it pretty much all the time, despite it never working in the beginning. Try it on simple enemies first, then proceed to harder ones.

Tried it 20 times already and didn't get further than 3 hits on Ornstein before dieing. (He is still on 95% hp and Smoug on 100%) I was going through the game so fast. Reached them in 15h while my previous save game had 35 hours on it and I wasn't even in the Cathedral. (But I went back to starting island there while I didn't do that yet in this run) But still.... What an insane boss.

Claymore and Zweihander are fine. Just upgrade the weapon that you like the best. Parrying and backstabbing are a matter of practice. Try to time the parry right as the enemy's weapon is moving right towards you, and make sure that you're close enough. For backstabbing enemies, strafing left or right while locked on is often enough. Try to get directly behind (remember to lower your shield). Unless you want to put points into Int or Faith, don't worry about faith or miracles. Any build can use pyromancy, however, so make sure you free Laurentius from the Depths.
