Goodell doesn't really have much power in this I don't think. Isn't it more so the owners?
I think rich eisen put it perfectly on twiiter when he said (and im paraphrasing) that he was wondering when a call was actually going to affect the outcome (not that all the terrible calls in the three weeks havent necessarily) I really think this may be a tipping point in the negotiations

Literally every single Packer is saying super shit stuff about the NFL right now on twitter. Rodgers saying everything about it was awful. I heard the Packers locker room went ballistic when they showed the replay right after the game in the locker room.
As much as I agree with the sentiment that something needs to be done, it would almost require every person to not watch the NFL games or player/team boycott of playing for them to get the message.

the problem is that i dont want NFL PRODUCTS
I want my team's products, which are being held hostage by "the nfl"
i can't just give up my ownership or tickets... i can't just get them back when they reinstate the refs.

You are right. Team product is being held hostage by the (garbage) NFL.
The internet has really informed my knowledge of public perception. Let's just consider these points.
Regardless of the actual performance of the refs, by sheer virtue of the name 'replacement ref' the following would happen.
-The players would complain about the refs -The coaches would complain about the refs -The players would try to take advantage of the situation -The coaches would try to intimidate the refs -ESPN always dramatizes everything
Now I'm not going to say they're doing a great job or even a good job, but it's too easy to fall into this trap of going from 'that call was bad' to 'the whole game is bad' just because they are replacements. For the first two weeks, the calls were about the same. And then last night in the Pats-Ravens game, the flags were flying after every play. Which way do you want it? How many fouls do they need to call to maintain control. The refs can't keep control at all if the players and coaches don't have any control.
I'll be interested to hear what DP has to say tomorrow.

The Steelers motto is 'better lucky than good'. Or, maybe, better mediocre in a bad year.

No way the real refs will be back by Thursday, there's a lot of stuff to do and get done.

I don't think it's just that... as a fan you can tell they are unsure of themselves. They are constantly looking to other refs to reassure themselves. It's not just a bad call, they just simply don't have control due to lack of confidence. People sense this weakness.

Their asking for pensions... so it is not exactly a small demand... but at the same time: they have the money.

Wait, they don't get a pension?
they get pensions nfl just wants to swtich over to a 401k plan with less defined benefits to save money, as if the nfl has been hurting over the years . But they want to switch over not because nfl is in any trouble they just want to make more money using the reason that most people don't have pensions anymore as a reason for nfl refs not to have them.
Haha, the ref anger has reached a high. King James taking to twitter now too.
LeBron James @KingJames These replacement refs gotta go man!! Packers just got game took from them. I LOVE NFL football to much to see this type of work.
I simply just LOVE the NFL to much to see these mistakes. I'm sick like I just played for the Packers.

It's not the amount of flags that matters, it's the quality of them. Tonight and last night there were way too many flags thrown for sure. A lot of them were on stuff that weren't penalties. At the same time, SO MUCH bad stuff went uncalled or unnoticed, and that's why you've seen an increase in chippy/violent play as players steadily push that limit.

this game i think seahawks were what penalized for like just over 100 yards lol and it still wasn't enough to stop them from doing it because they weren't always getting called and things they were actually doing.

The two sides are reportedly 4 million dollars apart last I heard (last night / this morning). Thats chump change in the world of the NFL where Goddell himself makes 20 million a year and the NFL itself is raking in a few billion if I recall correctly.
