Their job is a lot more dangerous than usual right now due to lack of calls, everyone is playing a lot more physical than usual because the refs aren't good enough to watch everything, and players are getting injured because of it.

Fans, coaches, players are all getting SICK of this crap with seemingly no end in sight. Actually, I think fans are going to watch the games anyway. They may be mad, but they have no alternative. The reason there is no end in sight to the refs dispute is that fans come to watch the games (and more importantly, fill TV ratings), even if the product is poor. The NFL is extremely profitable, even with Steve Young thinks so. Same thing with the NHL.

What a joke altogether. These replacement refs are pathetic. After week 1 I was fine cutting them slack. After week 2 I was frustrated, but understood and still gave some leeway. Now I'm just irritated.

I can't imagine how this can keep up much longer without their being some sort of repercussions. Wait what happened there? Also anybody see that back to back shots Schaub took (one so hard his helmet flew off and bloodied his ear)?

I didn't say they wouldn't watch, just that there is eventually going to be some backlash for all this shitty officiating that is costing games and risking star players' health. Wasn't just the Denver/Houston game, man...there were a lot of really dirty games going on yesterday and it's only going to get worse. There should have been ejections or SOMETHING in order for the refs to try to reassert some level of control but I don't think it's gonna happen. Darius Heyward-Bay had to be carted off the field today, but it's gonna take more than that to get the league to wake up and fix this. If the players were smart, they would start boycotting games until the regular officials are brought back. They could cite player safety, and play on the fact that the League is, at least publicly, swearing that they are trying to focus on player safety as much as possible.

Shame that DB is gonna get a 50K+ fine for incidental contact, because he didn't lead with his head or launch at all. His hands are out to push the receiver

These refs have a responsibility to explain the calls to the coaches.. especially because it was after the game

Also anybody see that back to back shots Schaub took (one so hard his helmet flew off and bloodied his ear)? He actually lost a piece of his ear, from what I've heard. And I actually think the shot to the head wasn't completely intentional. It looked like the Denver player was going in to absolutely destroy him with a legal shot, then saw the ball leave and tried to pull up, but got there too fast. The other people I watched with also thought it was unintentional, but we all knew that the flag was necessary. I think all this talk about the regular refs making the game safer is nonsense. Nasty hits, and "illegal" hits will happen regardless of who is reffing the game, because players are trying to make plays, and shit happens. I don't think any of them are being intentionally malicious, and they're all being flagged for illegal hits. If the referees were missing the illegal hits, not throwing flags, then people would have an argument for this... but they're not. The replacement refs are calling the same unnecessary roughness penalties that the regular refs call; there just happened to be some unfortunate hits this week, like the one to DHB. I mean, how many times has James Harrison been flagged and fined now? Referees haven't stopped him from making illegal hits.

I understand you don't touch the officials in any sport ever but all Belicheck wanted was an explanation for no review(which is incredibly common on a field goal that is at the end of the game) after the game These refs have a responsibility to explain the calls to the coaches.. especially because it was after the game Yeah, seriously, that's a huge douchebag move by the official, not Bellicheck. He reached for his arm, and gave up immediately when he realized the ref wasn't going to stop. He's probably going to get fined for it, and I guess the NFL needs to so they don't have anything more malicious happen after a game, but what he did wasn't that outrageous. That ref should get talked to by the NFL too.

Heyward-Bey, who was released from Eden Medical Center on Monday, is resting with a concussion and a neck strain, and expected to make a full recovery. Happy Brown owners lose their smile, doctors cleared Bradshaw for practice. CJ Spiller has a sprained A/C in his shoulder, which is likely a 1-2 week injury. Fred Jackson is on pace to return this week. Think that covers the bigger names. As well, go Seahawks!

Shame that DB is gonna get a 50K+ fine for incidental contact, because he didn't lead with his head or launch at all. His hands are out to push the receiver On a second look today, while it looks like Mundy did not launch, he definitely it going head first into DHB and the first contact is the crown of Mundy's helmet straight into DHB's face mask. His hands also appear to reaching for ball and not out to push the receiver. However, that is pretty much the trademark for a hit on defenseless receiver and is something the NFL is trying to get rid of. Opinions on whether or not this is good for the NFL is a different discussion. For reference: It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture. (a) Players in a defenseless posture are: (2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player; (b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is: (1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him http://nflcommunications.com/2011/12/27/definition-of-a-defenseless-player/
