Brandon Marshall, Roddy White), but I based my judgement on his highlight reel last year (tons of TDs after bobbling easily catch-able throws) being near the top of the list in drops last season, and a poor first game (which mirrored my complaints about him last year).
The guy was good last year, I don't dispute that at all, but he benefited from being one of 3 talented receivers and not always facing the best DBs of the opponents. Quite frankly, I don't think being doubtful of his ability to repeat his production from last year (or to doubt his ability to make the catches he needs to with Manningham out of the equation) is unreasonable.

If you took away all 5 of those long TDs, he still has 1207 yards, meaning he would STILL be a top 10 receiver. Number of drops is a pretty useless stat as well. He's nowhere near the bottom in terms of drop rate. Is he going to have another 1500 yard season? Probably not. But is he "terribly overrated"? Again, I don't think so.

Yeah the Giant oline is definitely not that good anymore. They were primarily responsible for their shittastic run game last season.
I think terribly overrated is a bit hyperbolic, but it is not at all a stretch to say that Cruz is overrated. Dude is probably a 1000yd receiver again this year, but it has a hell of a lot to do with playing in that offense. Having Nicks across from him and Manning tossing the ball (seriously he is so underrated, even by his own fans) along with the other options they have there means he isn't getting doubles a lot, and doesn't usually see the top DB.
Basically, Nicks on another team would still be a lock for 1000yds+ easy. I don't think Cruz is at all. I think he is exactly like Steve Smith was. A great complimentary dude who thrives in that role, but not a true #1 at all.
|
He's got #1 speed and YAC ability, he's just got the dropsies and his routes are a little sloppy sometimes. I think the latter can be cleared up by just being more experienced, not sure if the dropsies ever really go away.

HOOOLY SHIT. Saints bounty suspensions overturned!
A collective bargaining agreement appeals panel overturned the NFL's suspensions of four players for their involvement in the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" program, NFL Players Association spokesman George Atallah said Friday. While the suspensions are vacated immediately, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can go back and suspend the four players if he proves there was an intent to injure. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said all players are eligible to play, starting this weekend, until Goodell does so. According to Larry Holder of the Times-Picayune, Aiello said Goodell will not re-rule on the player suspensions before Sunday's games. "Consistent with the panel's decision, Commissioner Goodell will, as directed, make an expedited determination of the discipline imposed for violating the league's pay-for-performance/bounty rule," Aiello said in a statement. "Until that determination is made, the four players are reinstated and eligible to play starting this weekend." Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma was suspended for the entire 2012 season, free agent Anthony Hargrove for eight games, Saints defensive end Will Smith for four games and Cleveland Browns linebacker Scott Fujita three games. Fujita and Hargrove played for the Saints during the program's duration, from 2009 to 2011, under defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was suspended indefinitely by the NFL. The suspensions of Williams, coach Sean Payton (season-long), general manager Mickey Loomis (eight games) and assistant head coach Joe Vitt (six games) weren't involved in this appeals process. The NFL Players Association noted its support of the overturned player suspensions in a statement: "We are pleased that the appeals panel ruled unanimously to lift the players' suspensions immediately. We will continue to vigorously protect the rights of all players." Vilma took to Twitter to express his satisfaction about the ruling, writing: "Victory is mine!!!!." Hargrove's agent, Phil Williams, wouldn't comment on his client's status. Williams also wouldn't say whether or not teams had begun calling him on the assumption that Hargrove is eligible to be on the field for the opening week of the 2012 NFL season. "It's all too new," Williams told NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport. When asked if his client is physically able to play after being released by the Green Bay Packers in August, Williams said: "Of course. He's ready to play if he falls out of bed after a month." According to a source close to Smith, the defensive end plans to play Sunday in the Saints' regular-season opener against the Washington Redskins and has been led to believe by the team that he will play. "Thank you to everyone involved in the process of this solution," Smith tweeted. "And everyone who supported us through this whole ordeal" Fujita also shared his gratitude on Twitter: "I'm overwhelmed with all the support. Thank you so much everyone. Can't tell you how much it means to me." According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer, the Browns have been granted a roster exemption by the NFL and therefore will not have to make a roster cut to accomodate Fujita. Saints safety Roman Harper said he'd welcome the return of his defensive teammates, Vilma and Smith. "Well, if coach (Aaron) Kromer would let him come out, I'd definitely like to play with these guys," Harper told reporters. "I'm excited," Saints quarterback Drew Brees told NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala. "I've been focused on the game, but I hoped that that would be the case. No, I'm not surprised. I wouldn't call me surprised. Obviously, they saw the information that we've seen for a long time." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000059459/article/saints-player-bounty-suspensions-overturned-on-appeal?module=HP11_breaking_news

This part in Jeffri Chadiha's article lololol. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8349422/nfl-players-win-gut-punch-roger-goodell
Unless the Saints were using Quicken to manage the money changing hands, there was no solid way to know who was paying into the bounty program and what they were endorsing. The only legitimate evidence Goodell likely had on that point had to come from confidential sources.
Wouldn't be surprised if Goodell payed Gregg Williams under the table for that confession

Man Im one of those idiots who took the niners D way too early in the fantasy draft and now i see they are playing the packers week 1. I can't play a D vs the Packers...

This is amazing. http://deadspin.com/5941348/they-wont-magically-turn-you-into-a-lustful-cockmonster-chris-kluwe-explains-gay-marriage-to-the-politician-who-is-offended-by-an-nfl-player-supporting-it
Vikings Punter writes open letter to a Maryland Congress representative that asked the Ravens owner to silence one of their players that spoke out in support of gay marriage.
+ Show Spoiler +Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has spoken out in favor of a Maryland ballot initiative that would legalize gay marriage. Yahoo has published a letter that Maryland state delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr. wrote last week to Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, urging him to "inhibit such expressions from your employee." This is Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe's response to Burns.
Dear Emmett C. Burns Jr.,
I find it inconceivable that you are an elected official of Maryland's state government. Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level. The views you espouse neglect to consider several fundamental key points, which I will outline in great detail (you may want to hire an intern to help you with the longer words): 1. As I suspect you have not read the Constitution, I would like to remind you that the very first, the VERY FIRST Amendment in this founding document deals with the freedom of speech, particularly the abridgment of said freedom. By using your position as an elected official (when referring to your constituents so as to implicitly threaten the Ravens organization) to state that the Ravens should "inhibit such expressions from your employees," more specifically Brendon Ayanbadejo, not only are you clearly violating the First Amendment, you also come across as a narcissistic fromunda stain. What on earth would possess you to be so mind-boggingly stupid? It baffles me that a man such as yourself, a man who relies on that same First Amendment to pursue your own religious studies without fear of persecution from the state, could somehow justify stifling another person's right to speech. To call that hypocritical would be to do a disservice to the word. Mindfucking obscenely hypocritical starts to approach it a little bit.
2. "Many of your fans are opposed to such a view and feel it has no place in a sport that is strictly for pride, entertainment, and excitement." Holy fucking shitballs. Did you seriously just say that, as someone who's "deeply involved in government task forces on the legacy of slavery in Maryland"? Have you not heard of Kenny Washington? Jackie Robinson? As recently as 1962 the NFL still had segregation, which was only done away with by brave athletes and coaches daring to speak their mind and do the right thing, and you're going to say that political views have "no place in a sport"? I can't even begin to fathom the cognitive dissonance that must be coursing through your rapidly addled mind right now; the mental gymnastics your brain has to tortuously contort itself through to make such a preposterous statement are surely worthy of an Olympic gold medal (the Russian judge gives you a 10 for "beautiful oppressionism").
3. This is more a personal quibble of mine, but why do you hate freedom? Why do you hate the fact that other people want a chance to live their lives and be happy, even though they may believe in something different than you, or act different than you? How does gay marriage, in any way shape or form, affect your life? If gay marriage becomes legal, are you worried that all of a sudden you'll start thinking about penis? "Oh shit. Gay marriage just passed. Gotta get me some of that hot dong action!" Will all of your friends suddenly turn gay and refuse to come to your Sunday Ticket grill-outs? (Unlikely, since gay people enjoy watching football too.)
I can assure you that gay people getting married will have zero effect on your life. They won't come into your house and steal your children. They won't magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster. They won't even overthrow the government in an orgy of hedonistic debauchery because all of a sudden they have the same legal rights as the other 90 percent of our population—rights like Social Security benefits, child care tax credits, Family and Medical Leave to take care of loved ones, and COBRA healthcare for spouses and children. You know what having these rights will make gays? Full-fledged American citizens just like everyone else, with the freedom to pursue happiness and all that entails. Do the civil-rights struggles of the past 200 years mean absolutely nothing to you?
In closing, I would like to say that I hope this letter, in some small way, causes you to reflect upon the magnitude of the colossal foot in mouth clusterfuck you so brazenly unleashed on a man whose only crime was speaking out for something he believed in. Best of luck in the next election; I'm fairly certain you might need it.
Sincerely, Chris Kluwe
P.S. I've also been vocal as hell about the issue of gay marriage so you can take your "I know of no other NFL player who has done what Mr. Ayanbadejo is doing" and shove it in your close-minded, totally lacking in empathy piehole and choke on it. Asshole.

Is it worth the money this year? I like the look of the new career mode thing they have, but many people said it sucks.

Hrm, what's the game to watch on the early game slate? Colts/Bears and Redskins/Saints both look interesting.
Afternoon game is a no-brainer: Niners/Packers.

My last Madden game was 10, and I prefer everything about 13 to 10 except two things: 1) no create-a-team ...2) they constantly pressure you to get online.
The best thing about the game is the running, it's so much more real-feeling now, because it's more about where and how you run, rather than using the right stick gimmicks, the fact that they have rag doll physics makes it way better, you can trip over your own linemen's legs and stuff lol. When you make a big run, it feels SO good because you can actually replay it and it looks wonderful. And they make running like Barry Sanders much more viable.
PS can't wait for the games in a few minutes :D :D :D. Let's GO PATS.
