McGahee also has a fracture in the bone in his lower right leg. He will be on crutches for about a month, and doctors have told him not to put any weight on his leg, according to a source. McGahee will not need surgery and he believes he can come back in four to six weeks, even though the team thinks it's a six- to eight-week injury.
Broncos coach John Fox on Monday afternoon confirmed McGahee's ligament tear and that the running back wouldn't need surgery. The team has not put McGahee on the injured reserve list. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8652993/willis-mcgahee-denver-broncos-6-8-weeksKinda sad, McGahee is pretty amazing considering he's been in the league for 10 years, is over 30, and is still producing in the NFL (wonder what his secret is) "Filed to ESPN: Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress is expected to go to Pittsburgh to meet with and take a physical for the Steelers. Need WR help" Also, Ed Reed suspended one game for an illegal hit in last night's game, currently being appealed. I really don't understand how Reed is suspended, and James Harrison has yet to be suspended. Reed is a hard player that flies all over, and sometimes hits guys in the head inadvertently (seems to be that way at least). On the other hand, Harrison is amongst the league's dirtiest players. Unreal. .
You know its a sad state when an NFL exec goes on Mike and Mike to discuss the suspension and makes Mike Golic look good in a debate.

I think it was Smith's 4th sack or so, but he came flying at the tackle, did an insane stutter step and just bitch slapped the fat ass right out of the way and killed Campbell again. I really felt bad for Campbell lol Should feel bad for anyone behind bears or arizona's o-line.

Dunno, every team wants the backup because they look good a couple games on good teams, but when thrown to the fire for an extended amount of time, with extensive preparation by opposing staffs, they tend to fall apart. As pointed out by King:
Alex Smith since Harbaugh took over: 19-5-1, 64.2%, 7.36 YPA, plus-20 TD-Int ratio, 95.1 rating ... Stop viewing him through prism of 2007.
He's doing pretty damn good.

Yeah I am def not ready to boot smith yet. One game, gainst a team with little to no film on Kaepernick. The niners line beat the shit out of them too. As great as his play was on the 2nd TD, that line play was just as good. He had a huge pocket.
That being said, he can throw the deep ball in a way that Smith can only dream of. Smith is really limited to short/medium throws. And while Kaepernick can run like the wind, Smith is actually pretty damn good running/rolling out as well.
I really seen o reason to change now.
Also yeah, that Reed suspension is total horseshit. This league is really getting fucking dumb. All of those helmet to helmet hits they showed on ESPN were ridiculous. The one on Brees, he came in for the strip and missed. The one vs Branch, Branch ducked. The Sanders one, Sanders put his head down to brace.

That's actually one of the points Golic made during the discussion and the NFL response was "the onus is always on the defensive player to re-adjust his pad level on a hit no matter what the offensive player does". I thought I heard Golic chuckle in complete disbelief in the background when the answer was being given.

Yeah it is completely unrealistic. The league is doing it at this point to give the illusion that it is doing something to make a dangerous game safe to keep parents from pulling their children from youth football, and to keep former players from suing their balls off.
Meanwhile, shit like the idiot Bears defender early in the Niners game who dove and headbutted a downed Niner in the face with the crown of his helmet will probably be a small fine when stupid, avoidable shit like that should be the stuff that gets Gingerhammered.

I think alex is a very competent QB under harbaugh, but i've always viewed the kaep pick as grooming a talented person to replace alex just like hunter is there to replace gore. Although RB's don't last as long and gore is older then alex, alex only has a few more good years left in him. Only Qb's like manning can last so long, so i see him replacing alex as starter in 1 2 years, pretty much as long as they can hold him, till he becomes a free agent in 2015.

The suspension was appealed successfully. Instead of a suspension Reed is just getting a $50k fine now.

Plaxico Burress has officially signed with the Steelers.

Reed suspension appealed. He gets $50k fine.
Still ridiculous that he was fined but hey I guess that is better than a goddamn suspension for that type of hit.
e: wow hahah some timing
|
So he successfully negotiated his fine from somewhere around $450,000 to $50,000. That's a win, in my book. I agree there shouldn't have been any fine, but I'm sure he'll take a fine 1/9th the price.
|
The fine was originally $450k? He would have lost $423k for not playing due to the suspension.
That's fucking bullshit.

I think the 450k was just a rough estimate for his 1 game salary by SweeTLemonS. He can correct me on that. Also, I agree that getting the penalty reduced to a 50k fine is a win for Reed at this point (its not like the NFL would completely change its mind and not punish him at all).

Yeah, rough estimate because I was too lazy to look up the actual amount.

Looking around at various 49er beat writers, it's looking less likely that Smith will return for Sunday's game against the Saints.
Regardless of whether the 49ers are forced to start Kaepernick, I'm surprised at how many of the talking heads are saying that Kaepernick will have a harder time against the Saints defense than he did against the Bears defense. Excuse me? The Saints have the most horrific pass defense in the league. People can't really believe that the Bears defense is a total fraud, can they?

I can see him having more of a problem because it's on the road and it's the saints in the superdome. But like their defense actually hard lol, all the saints do is blitz.

Yeah, I can see the dome environment being a problem under normal circumstances, but the Saints defense has been an atrocity all year at home and on the road, coughing up over 300 passing yards per game and 158 rushing yards per game. The only teams that they have done remotely well against defensively are the Eagles and Raiders. If nothing else, the Niners should be able to just feed Gore and Hunter the ball all game long and win that way.

So, it's that special time of year where we all stress out over our lineups trying to secure a playoff seed. I'm playing to clinch a 1/2 seed right now, and my RB situation is driving me nuts.
I have Law Firm, Jamaal Charles, CJ Spiller, Alfred Morris, and Steven Jackson. I'm pretty set on starting Spiller and benching Jackson, but I'm having trouble deciding which of the three others to sit. I've been fucked over by Charles too many times to feel confident putting him out, and Morris has been underproducing the past few weeks... on the other hand, BJGE is objectively worse than both of them. The only reason he's in consideration is that they're playing Oakland, but having a great matchup hasn't really helped him in the past.

Went 2/3 last week betting on Saints and Over for Chargers/Denver while losing Ravens -3.
This week I'm going for Texans vs. Lions (Texans -3.5) and Falcons vs. Bucs (Falcons -1.5). =d

I haven't seen Mel Kiper praise a draft prospect this much in a long time. Future of the NFL.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Willis McGahee has been placed on recallable injured reserve by the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos.
The Broncos (7-3) put their 31-year-old running back on the list Wednesday, meaning he can return to practice after missing the final six regular-season games and play in a game after missing two more.
That would bring Denver up to the AFC title game.
McGahee tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee Sunday when he was tackled low by San Diego cornerback Quentin Jammer. Broncos coach John Fox says McGahee won't need surgery.
McGahee ranks fifth among AFC rushers with 731 yards.
He'll be replaced by rookie Ronnie Hillman, Lance Ball and former first-round pick Knowshon Moreno, who's been inactive since Week 2.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8660419/denver-broncos-eye-title-game-return-willis-mcgahee
Obligatory "if they make it that far."
Also do you guys think any defensive players have any chance at winning the MVP this year? I'd love to see it, but my money is on Peyton/Rodgers.
