My thoughts; Celtics vs. Knicks Winner? Toughest of the night for me, Pierce is day-to-day with his heel, and there's a huge difference between having Pierce vs. Melo and Pavlovic vs. Melo. Only Baron Davis missing for NYK, and he wasn't a part of the team during the preseason, so I'm guessing it won't make too much of an impact if he isn't ready to play. If Pierce plays limited minutes/doesn't play at all, I think Melo will get too much room, or create too much for the other players.. so I'm leaning towards a Knicks victory. Bulls vs. Lakers Winner? The Bulls, easy pick (probably because I'm biased being a Bulls fan, but either way..). LAL has only gotten weaker since last year, the Bulls have had their players injury free for a while AND picked up Rip Hamilton. In addition to all of that, Kobe Bryant knocked his wrist during the preseason, and even though he'll probably play on Sunday he might not be 100%, which the Lakers need if they want a fighting chance. Heat vs. Mavs Winner? Heat. The second best defense in the NBA got even better during the off-season, the big three have gotten more playtime together, everything just points to a huge year for Miami, and the Mavs lost their defensive rock in Chandler, so I'm feeling Heat by quite the margin. Clippers vs. GSW Winner? The Clippers, the new-look Clippers seem to be working well together already, which means trouble for GSW (and most teams in the Western Conference really). Can't see GSW taking this unless David Lee plays defense, both Ellis & Curry pours in points and stars align. Even though I think LAC will take this without too much trouble, it's still a must-see game for me. Magic vs. OKC Winner? OKC. Don't think it's any point in breaking it down why OKC should beat the Magic, it's fairly self-explainatory.

Unless the knicks get an early blow out lead, I don't see this ending in a knick victory. (for the record i think its knicks at #4 and celtics at #5 for the season.) also heat vs Mavs will probably be closer than you predicted. Even with chandler gone, the Mavs are still a team not to be reckoned with, it's actually the hardest of the games to predict.

I guess if Rondo plays like he did vs. the Knicks during the playoffs, Celtics could do well, but I think Melo will run rampant without Pierce guarding him, atleast that's my initial thought, but I could be wrong - regardless of the result I'm excited to see both teams play again! As for the Heat vs. Mavs, I felt the Heat gained alot more from the off-season than Dallas did, and I'm unsure how well the Mavs' zone defense will hold up without Chandler in the paint, but it's true that you can't write off the Mavs, I guess.. even though it pains me to say, I think the Heat will win the championship this year, and that's why I feel Miami will be able to handle the new-look Mavs :p On December 24 2011 17:54 Ace wrote: Who's at #3? The Knicks have yet to show a commitment to team defense and not being a black hole on offensive possessions. Just because Carmelo and Amare can "get theirs" doesn't mean they're playing great basketball.

I don't know if I like the Cwalk more or the old school Nikes lol. Brent Barry is the man though, big fan of his. maybe he meant magic at #3? not sure.

#1 Chicago - Young and deep, best suited for a shortened season, should be a huge win-loss margin, again. #2 Miami - Lebron James. #3 Atlanta - This prediction is on Orlando trading Dwight and tanking the rest of the season, but should that happen, they are going to be in an easy division with the Wizards (tanking), Bobcats (tanking) Orlando (possible tanking) #4 Knicks - Best starting front court in the game, but lack depth. #5 Celtics - Too many back to back to backs for the Celtics to take any home court advantage. Most likely just get into the playoffs, and be a threat from there. #6 Pacers - Young and can run, should be a formidable team this season. #7 Philly - Philly is stuck in limbo, a few years removed from contending, no real superstar (Iggy is fantastic don't get me wrong), Doug Collins as the Head Coach will make this team attempt to contend, but they can't really. #8 Dwight Howards Team - Okay, this is currently Orlando, and barring a trade mid season, Orlando should be fine getting in this season, the Magic are made for the regular season. To add, if he gets traded to the Nets with enough time to help them salvage their season, they should end up here. If Dwight plays half a season on Orlando, and half a season in NJ, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucks made the playoffs, if Bogut is 100% he might push them into the playoffs himself. That being said, if NJ gets Dwight next week, then NJ should probably seed higher than #8. Its such a hard situation to predict, especially with Lopez getting injured. I feel if anything, the disparity in this season is closing, due to the fact that less games means less West Coast losses spread amongst the East Coast teams, should expect a good win margin for the East this year. At least for the regular season, the playoffs will be a different story altogether.

However the good news is that neither one of them can guard Boozer either. He'll do a lot of damage to Indiana's front line since he's a better offensive player than both of them. Chicago also has Taj Gibson to mix things up which is where the fun begins. I seriously think Indy vs Chicago could potentially be something major.

I'm not as worried about West & Hibbert as I am with Hansborough, he was looking really good in the two preseason games vs. the Bulls, and if he plays like that throughout the season the Pacers will be a team that can take games from anyone at any point in time!
