It's ridiculously long, but it was the first tactical rpg I had ever played so, I guess I have a bias towards it. I got about 70 hours in before I stopped and from what I could tell in the story there was no end in sight. They claim it's over 150 hours long, and I don't doubt it. Still, pretty fucking fun to at least try out and play for a little while.
Wow what a coincidence. I was thinking of playing this game and finally finishing it. I think I'll start from the beginning to remember
Yeah it is insanely long and I also quit at around 70 hours lol

If Bungie actually made Myth IV, I'd drop SC2 like a bad habit.
YES!!! Still 2 of my favorite games to date! If either of you still have these games i still have my copies. Should try to get a few fun games going! XD
In fact im going to reinstall these tonight and start cracking through the story again.

I remember this one! it was good.
What about the classic pools of radiance series on Apple IIe ?

Is it just me, or could we put like, the entirety of the Tales games on here and be done with it? They feel like the RPGs that only some people have played, but everyone who's played them loves them.
My first one:
I can't tell you how many hours I spent playing this game. I honestly think the Tales series are at least as good than Final Fantasy, if not better than the last couple (XIII from what I've heard).

didnt see this listed in either Wii or PS2 section ...
probably one of the best action-adventures on the old PS2 and still in the top 10 on the Wii imho.

We all know FF, and we all know FFXIII. The point of this is to uncover older games / less popular games that are fun to play. Please don't turn this into a thread where the next 10 posts will be Black Ops and Battlefield 3.

Yes FF is a super well known series, for all major series I'll be only posting off-series of the popular games series only.
If metal gear solid is popular then that excludes metal gear solid 2 even if it was completely overlooked, within reason. (it's a never release game, EU/JP only etc)
so FF2 NO but Chocobo Racing YES
I mean I'm trying to keep this thread 100% unbiased, I mean I even put chrono trigger on there because someone posted it. and I was cringing at that one. To be respectful, the guys made a great point that not all games at shipped outside the NA
I mean what do I do against that? some publishers don't even ship to some countries, and steam only recently is one of the few digital distributions that recently gave those countries a chance.
I'm guessing I have to consider the list "based in North America"

Lufia II rise of the sinistrals.
they recently made a remake of it for DS (last year or so) DO NOT PLAY IT PLAY TO SNES VERSION.
for me this game is my second favorite. behind Zelda OoT and before morrowind.
might be nostalgia talking...but man i feel like doing a playthough of it again T.T
OH and also golden sun + golden sun lost age.
not including the latest DS golden sun because its atrocious >.>
but the first two games IMO would be good enough to turn into a 4-5 movie series.

oh, And i almost forgot my two childhood favorites:
for playstation : OVERBOARD!:
A really funny game, combining really good humor, with puzzle and action. A really fast top down-pirate ship-extreme-gadget galore game, with some really awesome mechanics that i have never seen before or after. be sure try it out, heck i think you need to emu it, as it prooly does not even exist anywhere any more.
For PC: Caesar 3!
Also a really entertaining game. In fact, the whole series is something to try out if you love manager like games, where you need to build a city and make it prosper, a lot of factors go into this complex system (religion, desirability and other things). To boot there is actually a whole series all build somewhat on the same engine and system (greece, egypt, china fx) and are worth a good look

Freedom Fighters:
A game based in a New York being invaded by Russians. You and your brother are plumbers (lol) and lead a resistance against the Russian invaders.
It's a 3rd person shooter, where you command groups of resistance fighters, with a very simple move/hold position/attack move commands. Simple gunplay, but a great atmosphere and feeling of fighting against the enemy.

Not really sure how hidden these gems are, but if it gets someone to play them that has never heard of them, then my work here is done.
Pretty difficult rpg and great story.
One of the most fun action/rpgs on the snes.
Also....
Great and pretty humorous rpg/puzzle game for the nes. Try the use self commmand.. lol
On a side note it's amazing how much some of these old games go for. Wish I could have kept all my old games..

Threw all the legit new picks, I'm currently adding names under the images to allow people who can't read the names off the boxes to see what game it is
Also dug deep into my own childhood to pull out IQ intelligent Qube Adventures of Tron Bonne =P
Added about 5 new GBA games
Keep it up everyone! quite the collection we have going!
|
UPDATED: Added about 10 DS games to the list. I'm starting to get really proud of this list =3
OMG, I totally forgot this existed It was on a demo disk from pizza hut...right? here's a screen of gameplay if anyone else remembers this.

Gorky 17
Really unique game that not many have played. It would best be described as a Survival tactical horror game with turn based combat. Sadly it's pretty short and on a modern computer you can only play it on software mode but even then it certainly is worth the cheap price of 5.99$ at GoG.com

Some great hidden gems that I did not see in the OP:
King's Field 1 and 2 (both for PS1) and King's Field: The Ancient City for PS2 (I'm actually in the middle of playing this at this time).
Fantastic first person action RPG (all 3 of them), basically you use weapons and magic as you explore a huge world... kind of an early (and probably better) version of Skyrim?
Sacred 2: Fallen Angel - PC, PS3 or XBOX360 Best Hack and Slash/ActionRPG ever, period. Screw D3. SCREW D3!!!!!!!!! Most in-depth game I've ever played. Huge, incredibly detailed world to explore (totally non-linear as well, kind of like the opposite of FFXIII). Choose from 6 characters, all of which can be customized in sooo many ways, great weapon/upgrade system.
Just a bit of background on how I discovered this game, as the game title sure as hell didn't draw me (or likely many other people) to buy it. My step-daughter's biological father bought this game (along with a few others) for her for Christmas. I decided to give it a try, pretty much assuming that it was going to be crap. I couldn't wait to say something like "Gee your dad bought you some really crappy games huh?" When I first started playing, I almost gave up, as it was so much to learn and take in at once (how to build up your characters, customize ,upgrade, etc). And I really wanted to NOT like the game because of what I already mentioned above. But after a while, I couldn't deny it any more. The game is fucking amazing. I can't even estimate how many hundreds of hours of playtime I've gotten out of this game, as there are so many different ways to play it. But not only that, there are many ways you can screw your character up as well if you don't know what you're doing. Sometimes it can be quite difficult, but that is what makes it so good imo. If you want easy, go play D3.
You can probably find this game for $20 or less online for console. There is also an expansion for PC called Sacred 2: Ice and Blood, probably the one that you should get if you don't have console.

PS2: Katamari Damacy
Best hidden gem i've ever played. Lot of bizarre humor, totally innovative gameplay, fun as hell (really short tho)
And Einander gets the honorable mention for me.
Btw the thread is full of well known games. Shadow of the Collosus??? Wtf, is the best game in ps2 easily!! Zelda, Zone of enders, Golden sun, powerstone, wtf, those were never hidden. I LOVE the thread anyways ^^

awesome thread
thanks !

Is redfaction considered a hidden gem. Because that game was awesome. RED faction 2 wasn't bad either.
