Yeah 5man premades are matched against the highest rank in the party. If you're lem with 4 silvers, you'll be matched against 5 LEM's~. Fucking sucks, but it kinda works against boosting. I just get flamed for smurfing or toggled against when I play with my buddies :<
When we play with friends whose ranks go from silver to DMG, we don't get 5 DMG in the opposing team, but most of the time, we get spread ranks, or an average of GN2/3.
Can you even queue as DMG with silvers?
You have to have a full stack if the ranks are too spread out.
Yeah, but then from what I read the highest rank is taken as a base for matchmaking. Maybe they changed it back though, but I'm 90% sure that's how it worked a few months ago.

that explains some of the matchmaking I got when I played with my friend who just got cs:go. It took forever to get her rank (10 wins) and it finally put her into silver where she belongs. The whole time match queuing with her was worse than playing with a bot. Everyone was similar to my rank. It was difficult to get a full party to even begin with on top of getting people who don't mind the dead weight and their ranks lol.
So in continuation of the questionable ranking up, I didn't play for a week, won a match going 4-10, and immediately ranked up---this after ranking up in my previous game as well.

8$ a month isn't much and is definitively worth it for playing some cs with 128 tick servers if you're good enough and you really want to improve. It costs less than the price of a meal at the restaurant. I know that I would sub right away if I had the skills to play there.

Yeah 5-stacks for a wide range of ranks are bullshit. Basically encourages people to use smurfs to play with their low rank friends, which the just sucks for the enemy team instead of their team, but obviously people are going to do it when it comes down to choosing between stomping people with their friends vs. getting stomped. If the matchmaking system could simply deliver fairer matches for 5-stacks then this wouldn't even be a problem.

Valve is ultra lazy.
Yeah but if you play 3 games and do even vaguely well it'l bitchslap you into appropriate MMR games immediately.
I know because I've tried to play Dota with my awful buddies, not trying, and all it takes is one game of us stomping for it to go "Hey fuck this guy, let's throw them into equivalent ~3k mmr games". And that's on an account that after 15 games had something like a 15% winrate. The little "are you a smurf?" thing at the beginning is a tiny tiny portion of dota 2's smurf detection.
I'm looking to play some surf but I'm not exactly sure where to start (where to get maps/servers, where a beginner should be, etc). Any help or a finger in the right direction would be nice

You can also find them by just searching in the community server browser, go to "change filters", put "surf" in the map section, pick one. Surf maps are ranked into different tiers, not sure how high it goes, but the "easy" ones are tier 1-3ish. That said, I find even some tier 1 maps pretty hard.

Some surf servers. 64.74.97.225:27015
74.91.117.68:27015
Make sure you input "surf" and then rescan for servers, for whatever reason it'll find em all alot better. At least it does that for me when im searching stuff =p
