What exactly is the percentage of warowl's subscribers that actively watch him and using his advice, broke out of the silver/nova range? Because, with my current CSGO experience (Badge-eagle level and CEVO open team), ( it's not much to say but it gives me some sort of a valid merit) watching warowl videos is not going to help you improve that much in the long run. Sure, anyone can easily make it out of silvers with simple lessons and videos, but if you really want to get involved and really want to play this game competitively, your best option is to watch the actual top tier pros, not a youtuber who's not even on an open team. Using the starcraft example, I don't fucking watch replays of Ninazerg or watch replays of Greenelve to learn how to play Defiler ZvT, i fucking watch jaedong replays and I fucking watch effort replays. Anytime that you have the option to learn from the best, you just straight onto that. So, why watch warowl for anything when i can watch nothing's videos or the random videos that NiP players made, or even just watch them stream on twitch? You learn way more that way since you are watching the top players with the best mechanics. When my team goes to review team strats and tactics, we watch mostly NiP and Fnatic demos, we don't watch warowl's strat talks or joe shmo's strat talks. Hell, we play inferno almost the same way that NiP plays inferno (3 a 2 b, 1 a smoke banana right off and we triple smoke it, etc...). The point that I'm trying to make here is that if you base your play from the best players in the world or at least take inspiration from it, you'll improve way more than taking advice from someone that's not even relevant in any competitive scene. All in all, if you have never played an FPS game before in your life, sure he's ok to start off with, but for the love of god, don't watch him if you ever plan to take this game seriously; just take advice from a pro instead. Tiring... Do you watch F1 racing or rally racing when you're learning how to drive ? No, you take lessons with basic instructors. Do you watch Usain Bolt and his training method when you're learning how to stand up and walk ? It's the same. I might watch Jaedong videos, in fact I do, but all I'd be able to do is copy (and I won't), not understand. To start something, you need to understand the basics instead of mimicking (badly) things you don't even understand why they exist. Pros have a state of mind, a brain working differently from a scrub. You must shape your way of thoughts first, before being able to learn from the very top. Once you are able to understand and at least know what you're doing, then you can switch to learning from the top. I mean, when you don't know how to buy a kevlar or adjust your sensitivity, learning what weapons to use when, know money usage and ecos, shoulder peeking and other advanced techniques are useless. Baiting an awp shot ? Useless in silver, some don't even know exactly when to shoot to be accurate or aren't used to it, when your velocity is 0... I agree it's bad to take bad habits, but decent advice is what you need at that level, to cover *fast* all the basics and not be discouraged. They don't teach you drifting at your first driving lesson for a reason. You can't even handle the pedals and wheels... If you need to watch youtube videos to learn basic movement and aiming (Herp derp press WSAD and left click) then you have far more pressing issues than learning CSGO. People come to these youtube videos and guides seeking intermediate-high skills. Such as advanced peeking, movement, recoil control, preaiming, positioning etc. Not how to buy a pro90 and press W+LMB In such situations the teacher must have good execution of the things he is explaining and demonstrating or he will not be teaching properly and will be passing on bad habits and poor play. People come to learn the hidden intricacies of the game not the controls lol, WarOwl doesnt need to tell people to shoot the bad guys. Also "when you don't know how to buy a kevlar or adjust your sensitivity, learning what weapons to use when, know money usage and ecos," none of that requires a video with good execution to learn from somewhere else and is not what everyone is criticizing WarOwl for (Unless he's actually feeding people wrong information lol). You would learn far more about all these things by reading a detailed word doc anyway but thats a different issue. - Again, i dont have any idea if WarOwls stuff is legit or not but some of the stuff you guys come out with is funny. "Do you watch F1 when learning to drive" No i dont, do you watch WarOwl when learning to play mickey mouses fun house or your first ever FPS game? -- For anybody lurking in here looking to improve, heres another repost of a useful links i made months ago. + Show Spoiler + If anyones interested in some helpful links / guides: AMAZING Starter/Basics guide http://forums.absurdminds.net/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=2198 (Alot of technical stuff at the beginning, much further down he details everything you need to know about CS. Only queuing dust2,nuke, inferno and train which leads to 90% dust2 - im a big fan of the map but it would be nice to have more maps selected. There are so many maps i dont know so its kinda hard to select one which i should spend time into learning - could you recommend me your favourite maps from the pool? Should be balanced t/ct as the starting faction shatters confidence in those pickup games ![]()

Season, Cache, Inferno, Mirage Somewhat playable: D2, Nuke, Train, Overpass Avoid MOST operation maps as they aren't good competitive maps. Cobble is played competitively but it can be very unfun IMO. Most maps in general are CT sided (the game itself is argued to be as well) so there isn't much you can do about that.

it would be hell of a different game if there was more cover or space when terrorists rush into a site.

Inferno has just felt so CT sided lately it's just as demoralizing starting T side on it as starting T side on Nuke.

). the important thing about Cache is holding mid down and not having b guys die quickly but the mid guy CT side reallys need to stay alive at mid for as long as possible (i know this cause im the mid player on my team for cache). T side, it's a simple map as most t strats are either geting a pick and rolling off of that or going for a set execute with smokes and mollys (B is easier to take cause of that sun room window)

On January 04 2015 08:56 NihiLStarcraft wrote: I know this sounds harsh but the fact that you bring up shoulder peeking and Silver/gold player level shows that you have no connection to that player base. Have you ever been in the Silver ranks? These guys don't know to buy kevlar. They don't know about weapon recoil. Most of them don't know about duck-jumps. None of them know of any call-outs. A lot of them don't know the weapons and buy random shit. Nobody buys defuse kits, they don't know what saving is etc. I feel like a lot of criticism over WarOwl's videos comes from MG-DMG and higher players that know of the inaccuracies in his videos but have no idea just how bad the low-level players these days are. Aaaanyways, I've given my two cents on the topic and the discussion isn't really going anywhere so this'll be my last post on it. In a nutshell: WarOwl is not the best at explaining things, he is good but not pro at the game. I think that's still enough for low-level players to learn from, a lot of you guys disagree feeling that it's better to learn everything 100% right and from pros right from the get-go. I disagree and think it's okay to leave out some of the more complex systems in the game and start out with just the basics, even if that includes some questionable things you will have to go over again at a later point. I base that on my own experience from when I was in Silver initially. Have YOU played in silver? Sure sometimes you'll have two players running circles around each other with AKs spraying for a whole clip, reloading and making it halfway through the next clip before someone dies because aiming is for people with AWPs, but for all the games I've played so far people buy guns, armour, and grenades in some moderately sensible fashion. Obviously silver isn't -good- but that's as much for not understanding a unique set of FPS mechanics and/or making poor decisions as much as being the functional equivalent to headless chickens. So, basically everything you said is all shit I've seen to not be true in every single one of my games. People know callouts and map positions, buy P90s because fuck spray control, form some semblance of a strategy for attacking/defending sites, communicate said strategies, ask for saves/buys and generally try. The problems come in when a lot of these strategies (HEY GUYS LETS RUSH B ON DUST_2 MAYBE THIS TIME THEY WONT HAVE ANYONE DEFENDING) are pretty much fucking retarded and/or thwarted by a complete lack of aim or spray control or ability to suppress the urge to run around while shooting. What's helped me so far are the videos explaining mechanics. Until I knew that rifles recoiled in set patterns that weren't necessarily relative to the crosshair position (what the FUCK?), and that you could compensate for said recoil, rifles felt pretty terrible. Until I saw the recently linked video on camera position / shooting from your face, I was playing around shooting boxes or walls. Until I actually took the time to test how godawful shooting while moving was, I had no idea that it's probably worse than not shooting. It took a video to explain which guns are good or not good vs armour, and so on and so on and so on. Watching a couple WarOwl videos - it seems like he says quite a bit of awkward advice that doesn't exactly ring true, like "Only buy fragmentation grenades if you know your opponent does not have armour" or "Always pick up an AWP over an AK because the AWP is more valueable" or "Always go for headshots". These pieces of advice are quite a bit different than their actual information, which is more like "Frag grenades do less damage to armoured targets", "AWPs literally cost more than AKs", and "Headshots do more damage".
