You could equally state that the de maps are balanced around the fact the ct's defend. "Balance" is just a matter of map design, there's no reason you couldn't adjust a hostage map until ct and t are vaguely even. Whether the gameplay patterns would end up being interesting is another question though~

Whether the gameplay patterns would end up being interesting is another question though~ It just seems like CT guns are weaker which is balanced by the fact that they get to defend. Unless they changed the weapons used in hostage to be different than demo Edit: I don't really like hostage too much, I played 2 games of hostage, the most recent I went 1 - 14 on CT, then 15 - 0 on T side. It just seems way too favored for T side. The other one was on office way back in the day so I can't remember the scoreline, but I do remember sawed offs being really good on that map Edit 2: yes 2 games is a huge sample size, but it's enough for me to form an opinion because I had zero fun on them

Theoretically, it's easy to make a map which is incredibly ct favoured. Just make all the T positions really hard to defend (little cover, lots of entrances etc,) or give the ct's the chance to come from lots of unpredictable angles (fx like how mist works), or put the hostages really far apart, or put the hostages in the middle ground between ct and t starts so it's more of a battle for control, or put hostages really close to ct spawn. The fact you can theoretically have a ct favoured hostage map means it's just a matter of finding the balanced point between ct and t balance. Sure, it'd take some experimenting, and both players and map makers would have to relearn the basics of competitive play, but it's definitely possible and could be pretty interesting~
