Cant wait for this, still playing 1.6... The expectations are huge so they better deliver. I am one of those who pretend source doesn't exist.

I barely played CS back in day, some 1.6 and some source during LANs with friends, used to play some UT and a lot of ET instead. Interested in this one though, from the blog it seems they are willing to heavily overhaul things during beta and a matchmaking system sounds pretty nice.

I'm sure this is just going to be another source. Wont go anywhere big besides a few start up tournys. From what I can tell from big players that have been playing beta, the hit box is terrible, the recoil is terrible and it all around plays bad. Why not just revamp 1.6 or something, everyone liked it, the game was incredibly popular for an FPS. I've played 1.3-1.6 and still to this day think 1.6 was the best fps. It's arguable I know.

From what I can tell you have no clue as to what you are talking about. The hitbox is quite good, the recoil is beyond horrible (at the moment) - that is something the developers are fully aware of and working on - and it actually plays very well considering it's a beta and still have issues. It's already far far far superior to what CSP ever was. The professional player who are posting on the dev forums knows better than to stomp on a game in development where their feedback is actually taken into consideration.

.. also, the problem with a pure revamp of CS 1.6 is the different engines the two games run on.. IIRC CS 1.6 runs on the UT (or Quake) engine, while CS:GO is OB (like CS:S is now after it's transfer from hl2) - which is also why the movements in 1.6 feels way more fluid than CS:S..

.. there's ups and downs with both engines though, you'd wish they could develop a completely new engine for the game - but that's not gonna happen :<

I've played it in both the first phase closed beta and the current second phase. There have been a lot of improvements, tapping in this game already feels better than CSS. In terms of movement though (as a 1.6 player myself) it feels pretty average and will take some getting used to.

In it's current state I'd say the game shares the looks, sounds, movements of CSS and a few smaller aspects of 1.6, in the flashbang and instant smoke pop. I'd say its much closer to CSS (mostly because of the look and sound) but don't be tricked into thinking its EXACTLY like CSS.. you need some time to experiment with it. Also one really good aspect is that recoil with pistols are much higher than both CS and CSS which I really like personally. In the end I'd say its like 15% CS 1.6 and 85% CSS if I were to categorically compare for people to gain an idea.

Molotov's will be broken for competitive play simply because of the fact you can leave a molotov on the bomb with ~15secs remaining on the bomb and its an insta-win round - pretty stupid if you ask me. For space controlling though the molotov is pretty cool but yeah the aforementioned issue is just too gamebreaking.

I guess they could always make the molotov to ruin the bomb, but then CT could just pop a 'tov on it instead of defusing... so it would need some team specific triggers instead. Gameplay benefits would still likely overcome the loss in realism.

CSS is incredibly popular in europe, which probably has the biggest CS scene globally. the game can't be as bad as you say.



i hope i'll get into the CS:GO beta. i was semi-pro in 1.6 and thought about picking CS up again : }} .. enjoying 1.6 again right now, after havent had played for years.

I don't think so... but he's right you know. Recoil is random, maps are different, you can't shoot through walls, you can move while being hit, and flashes are way too strong. If you've played both, you would know that 1.6 is a better competitive game.

I hope that this game does better than Source and can bring the community together unlike Source which divided people and didn't do much. 1.6 was so much fun I used to esea so much.

This game is fun. I got a key yesterday and I am up to 10 hours of playtime already..on one map. I played a ton of 1.6 and some source and this game is going to succeed. I can feel it.

Something incredibly important to your experience, that people don't talk about:
Check your ping with net_graph 3 in console.

The servers seem to be in France, Seattle, and Somewhere with abbreviation of IAD.

I am in Victoria, BC Canada, and I get 180 ping to France, 110 to IAD, and 22 to Seattle. Matchmaking makes me play on all three. Which server you are on makes a HUGE difference in how the game feels. Keep in mind that in the beta ping is hidden unless you know the net_graph command. So a lot of people will have very inconsistent experiences depending on the servers they happen to be playing on. (You can also check the name of the server in console with "status" command. It will be something like srcds.cs-go.fra10)

Keep this in mind when playing. Also recall that you may be playing people with 10 ping when you have 180, and vice versa. This makes a absolutely huge difference in how the game feels, and who gets their shots off first server side.
