Auto chooses between lockstep and predictive WHEN YOU LOG IN based on the number that your ping is. The game is incapable of changing sync modes without logging out then back in afaik. Thus, when you select auto and log in, in your options it will tell you what sync you are using.

Note that any lag or spikes using Lockstep are STILL THERE in predictive, you just don't see them. Hence desync and deaths. Even on 300 ping i'd never use predictive in HC. That said, I have no idea what actually killed you (desync or stun).

In other news I ran my first HC maps ever last night (scrubcore player here). Flame totem may be boring and obnoxious but never let anybody tell you that it isn't easy, cheap and strong too. I'm level 68, 4.6k hp 5.5k dps per totem (x2), blood magic with plenty of regen and cap resists, all with relatively shit gear. I'm considering grabbing some MF gear, not sure if it's worth it or not. How come aurseize are so wildly expensive did their droprate get nerfed?

Welcome to hardcore Sn0_Man. I never played hardcore in all my years of d2 but played it straight away starting with PoE beta. Ever since I can't play softcore anymore in any ARPG. Once you finally give it a shot and lose your first character or ten, it becomes such a cool experience that softcore just feels like it's lacking. It's like you become infected with a disease and can't play any other way anymore.

look i've tried like 20 hc chars and always die pre-maps (usually pre merciless). I'm just not cut out for this shit. Good thing flame totem could be played by a 3 year old cuz thats what I need to live in HC

I will say that it kinda ruins my sc motivation, but nothing is as bad as levelling a char through the same content 3 times just to get to maps again after dying lol. I level a new char roughly once every 3-4 months (aka once per league) and thats already more than enough of the levelling.

Yeah, leveling in PoE gets old pretty fast. It's not so bad dying on HC in D3 because a friend can PL you in ~35 minutes and you have a full stash of backup gear waiting.

I used to get mega salty re-leveling in PoE around act 2 cruel and just wanted the torture to be over!

I'm excited to level this league though since I didn't play the Awakening Beta so all of act 4 will be new for me and all of the QOL improvements should be cool.

Yeah everything was new for me too so I was fine levelling 3 chars (1 sc, 1hc died a4n to lack of knowledge re: new content, 1hc now to maps) but i can tell that if I rip i'm off to softcore for the rest of this league.
It helps that a4 merci is pretty damn optional (although there's a skill point quest I guess) because I don't wanna run that shit again XD.

ran a constant ping to Google's DNS server while playing PoE

it's showing the spikes when PoE's F1 chart was not

so issue is my Internet connection and can't necessarily trust PoE's in-game ping #s

Man. People have completely eliminated all the 3-4 star Warbands areas up to Act 3 Merciless from what I can tell. Kinda defeats the point of the league to make it that easy to squash em.

The vibe that I got from the league announcements was that the warbands were going to ramp up as the league progressed but I could be wrong. I haven't played too much of that league and the mechanic itself didn't seem very interesting.

apart from "tempest of give dominus vaal haste and spread chilled ground all over his zone" causing substantial delays to my progression plans, i guess tempests haven't had THAT big an impact. Still I think it's a much more interesting mechanic with more play to it (bait the boss into the freezing tempest or w/e) than warbands.

Is there any kind of trick to sustain higher level maps?
I'm playing solo and got up to some 76/77 maps and used Chisel, Alch/Chaos and Vaal Orbs on them to get the most out of them, but after running 4 of those, I'm down to only 74 maps again.
Just bad luck or am I missing something?

You should build up a pool of them first to avoid dropping down when you have a poor streak.

What exactly is the point of this exactly? If I have to do a lot of low maps before starting high maps, I invest the same time in it as I would in doing them inbetween high maps when I don't find high maps anymore

:D good advice, I think I only skipped the boss once so far, double boss with boss dmg in jungle valley

I also tried doing 71/72 maps and just rushing to the bosses and killing some blue packs for the boss map drops, was mediocre success though

It's the same except for exp gain. If you run all the lower level maps while you're still lower level you end up losing less experience. Since most builds work well before the 80s or 90s how much merit this has depends a lot on what you want to accomplish in the game.
