You can make a 1h+shield char that is ranged. Spectral throw could be used (but don't do it, it is a chore to level with and it REQUIRES a dagger crit build with a good dagger to have acceptable DPS) OR the new skill (link). The later one can be good or not, we don't know it yet.

Else, simply use Ice Crash with some AoE nodes and increased AoE gem for almost full screen AoE, which is basically ranged as well.

For Frost Blades you need to hit your target in melee range.

Wander is an option for one hand/shield. Kinetic Blast is pretty strong.

Else that skill would have zero benefit. Would make it like Lightning Strike (hate that skill) with cold dmg instead of lightning...

Yeah you are right. 14 weapon range is a lot for melee. But it isn't really ranged, either.

Oh apparently Malachai fight is much more laggy than even Dom fight, which I already have 5-8 fps there. Crap...

Well, obviously 1,5k hp and capped resists is fine on normal, however those already are pretty high values. I see thousands of whine threads popping up after release if they keep it as it is. It's a huge gear check again, much like the old Dominus. It's just a question of when they nerf Malachai, I'm 100% sure they will do it at some point.

Also melee shouldn't be much harder, you just need to be careful a bit more because of the Smash. Else, you at least have more armour and fortify so you don't take as much dmg from the undodgeable stuff.

they will definitely nerf normal/cruel malachai simply for sake of new players.

his attacks by themselves are all dodgeable but the small size of the arena plus intensity of aoe attacks (that dissolve into clusterfuck) means some builds have it easier than others.

totems/lategame srs players can mostly concentrate on dodging rather than attacking, very easy for them. regular summoners are toast will simply have their summons melt before they can do anything

Yeah agreed. I think it just seems a lot worse for me cause I tried to shove a minion build down his throat that wasn't designed for him. If you go dual curse with tanky as hell zombies/specs like AngryAA did I think you're fine as well.

It would be pretty cool if their approach to making it easier was making phase II take place in a progressively smaller arena in normal, cruel, and merciless. I felt like 95% of the difficulty was just keeping track of the clusterfuck of crap he throws out.

Normal = Size of Atziri trio room, Cruel = ~1.3x the current size, Merciless = just a bit smaller than current size.

Too bad it's way too late for them to do that.

i notice malachai traps can spawn under the white shit near the hearts and also under that writhing aoe effect thing, you wont know its there until you squint or trigger it.
also portalling removes all the traps that are currently in the area, so portalling after every 20-30s would actually help to give you more room to fight malachai with

Ha, there had to be broken things this version. Is anyone here actually trying to race for the Laptop? (vara?) I think I found something for that case that wasn't on any stream or reddit so far.

Thinking of going Life + ES hybrid build. Does anyone have experience using zealots oath? Is it really making a difference or is it useless?
My thinking is that since you can get life from leech and flasks, maybe it would make sense

I do have experience with both Zealot's Oath and Ghost Reaver hybrid chars. If you go hybrid you want one of them. Zealot's Oath only makes a difference if you have a decent amount of life regeneration, but it is definitely useful if you have no leech and no Ghost Reaver. Because you often will be at full Life and then your Life regen will do nothing. Gotta use Life Flasks for when Chaos damage hits you, and thus you need to be on alert.

In general Zealot's Oath will be a lot more popular in 2.0, because if you go EB and Zealot's Oath you can use skills completely on Energy Shield and can reserve all mana for auras.

EDIT: But if you have leech, I'd probably favor Ghost Reaver over ZO.


Oh, and for the build I'll play tomorrow, I'm still quite unsure. Right now it's between 1h+shield hybrid wander with KB (never played KB) and a Firestorm build. I'm sure the leveling will be a lot more fun and faster with the Firestorm build, because the Wander would need to level with EK first and I have no good experience with that. Though people that played it on the beta say it's better now.

in addition with 2.0, BM/EB/MOM can now be used which would be much better against chaos dmg mobs/bosses than the regular life/es builds with ZO but lack auras to use.

Great to hear that the patch notes will be up about 12 hours before release. I'm sure quite a lot of things will differ from the beta. Like a Flame Totem nerf is already announced but didn't happen yet.
