Speaking of Blood Rage, it seems like I'll have to scrap my idea of playing Flicker Strike now that it only gives a 25% chance for a frenzy charge on killl... The dual totem crit Shock Nova + Ice Nova with EE which I've tried on the current beta server is working quite well against white and blue monsters, but rares are even more of a problem than I would have thought. Not enjoyable at all and good that I already know it now. Perhaps it would shine more at lvl 80+ with better gear, as crit builds are scaling fairly well... But getting there is too painful, at least for a first character. | ||

I don't think the build will ever solo Malachai without dying a bunch even on normal, though, so it looks like it's going to be Firestorm for me for my first challenge league char. | ||

They also tend to be the easiest to do since you don't have to run all over the map. Haku can be annoying sometimes though. Elreon's a bro though, easy free xp, gives you a buff, and gives jewelers. -mana jewelry can be really great for leveling too. Tier 2: Cat//Vagan are kind of conditional, depends on what you're building. They tend to be a little RIPPY. Tier 3: Vorici has the hardest quests and the shittiest rewards. Kind of an aside, I do like how Rogue Exiles have been incorporated into so much of the game though. | ||

Normal Malachai was the first serious issue for me but I can put that down to a shitty build (I decided to level as SRS/AW, cause why not), Cruel was a walk in the park until late A4. Kaom was stupid (cheesed the fight with like 15 animated weapons, the DPS race against his summons in the last phase seems absolutely impossible) and I can't even get to Daresso because the 2nd set of Minibosses (not the puncture guys, the ones where you're locked in and shit continously spawns) come in such huge numbers that SRS can't keep up at all. I guess I could consider going Firestorm/Ball Lightning until A1 merci but it almost seems as if I'd need to commit too many points to make those work. Really unsure how people are doing this atm. | ||

just dual wield wands/sceptres with added dmg and/or +1 and take some dmg nodes that can be easily regretted out of later. | ||

Yeah, I've been playing so much SC lately that I really wanted to try out HC, but I feel like I won't make it past Malachai at this point. Unless maybe with a armour heavy caster build or a totem build that runs like a chicken. On normal his smash already deals about 1,5k physical damage and is a bit faster than Vaal Smash and also by far less visible, because there are way more other things that you need to look out for at the same time. And even his normal attack deals quite a bit and lets not speak about getting a full hit from the tentacles. Plus you can't dps race him because his hp is so high. Either you are a masterful dodger or you will get hit by something. As far as I have read most of the HC kills were done with dual Flametotem (which deal pretty sick single target dps and let you focus on not getting hit) and with SRS (similar). I was thinking about going melee with high armour and fortify, but apparently even that doesn't let you tank a hit on cruel and I'm rather bad at dodging for 10 minutes. | ||

was thinking of making a ranged with shield character, but with the only ranged weapon being a 2h in bows, I was wondering what alternatives are possible for a ranged attack, spectral throw seems to be a good option but I'm curious if there are other options. | ||
