Oh that's what you mean by 3D. Well I don't think Diablo 3 supports proper 3D calculations either. Both of the games have ramps and elevation visually, but I guess Diablo 3's looks better and is more significant/substantial. I would not say PoE has D2 graphics though — I guess you mean like graphics style? as opposed to engine or quality maybe? (in reference to how Diablo 3 is supposedly too colorful and blurry) I guess that makes sense. I didn't understand what you meant orginally. I stand corrected. Graphical style is a much better wording!
I am very impressed by how fast it came out and how much patch 0.9.7b actually changed! All in all these patches changes the game very significantly and apart from the moaning of cleave-abusers, charge-massers and regen blood magicians it is neutral to good changes!
Btw. The bow-character is completely redone. I like the changes to ranger a lot!

I don't think too much was wrong with cleave except maybe the abuse of attack speed with dual wielding you could do by holding a faster weapon in the main hand. Cleave is nice but it leaves a character very vulnerable to attack. I think the changes did make it much harder for melee (non–ground slam) than it did for ranged. I didn't like cleave because of the vulnerability it gave even before this patch, but after the patch it gets crazier.
Also, while the planned changes to charges are good (they did need a change), the action to just outright remove every charge effect passives in existance is really lazy and kinda dumb. They could have at least kept in the increased charge duration passives, and "gain charge on x" passives (they will be re-adding these shortly though I hear)

Winner is Gescom, info sent in pm, enjoy.
I might have a few more I can give out a little later.

I used Cleave a lot since I love duelists and I disagree that it was only the abuse that was problematic. Its range was a bit large and its damage was far better than dual strike, a single target ability! I agree that the changes made the game much harder for melee but that is not because of cleave but rather the general increase in difficulty. It is a fact of life that melee is very sensitive to damage-changes on monsters.
Removing a lot of the charge-stuff from the game will give less useless feedback on charges since almost noone will pick them at the moment.
Btw. 0.9.7c has one of the most significant nerfs to physical damage so far in the game! Again I think it was necessary for the future balance of the game, though they might need to rebalance the creeps a bit again.
They are spewing out significant patches semi-daily at the moment and that at the beta-server! They have also promised to increase the number of keys given out in the near future. At this pace, the open beta does not seem that far away any more!

Well damn. Every time I try to get on for a little before I go do something the game needs patched :|. However I am glad they are busting out these patches. Looks like their going in the right direction if they keep up this pace.
Voidsoul got it congrats!

I don't see how you could say it deals more damage than dual strike. It does get pretty close to dual strike's damage at high level (increased damage) though (too-much so. But that's likely more of a problem with dual strike)

It just so happens that cleave is a melee ability, and hence it's hard to use effectively, and should be dealing more damage than ranged attacks.

I can only assume you're talking about some of the lesser-used mods on weapons now stacking multiplicatively, but that's not a nerf. The reduction of values was a nerf, but considering they're now multiplicative it's only a nerf to people who don't have much of the stat from other sources.
That all said, there's a bug with either the display of values, or the actual values that the patch made (at least for attack speed). Attack speed seemed to be significantly slower than it should have been which is just really weird. Note that this was fixed in 0.97d

Good to see they added duration passives for charge based skills was getting rather tedious to keep max stacks up at times, now if only they would bring back the movement speed increases as is in Chaos if I see a hexproof + movespeed monster I have no choice but to phase run and try to lose it then avoid it when I come back on my Bow Ranger.
|
There are movespeed passives close to ranger starting position. Maybe you are now expected to take those.

I have them but it just isn't enough to keep a clean kite on a hexproof+movement speed rare monster so you end up having to screen + range poison arrow and wait 10mins for the dot to take them down if there isn't a allies regen monster around in which case they become unkillable and even with iron reflexes and a ~70% mitigation on ~1400 life they kill you in 2 to 3 hits and I only play hardcore so suiciding for the kill isn't an option like a lot of people do in softcore.

(Mar 24) HC Ladder Race Summary for people who played last time: Same structure, slightly better prizes, but 0.9.7 balance. It's harder now
This weekend, we're going to run a temporary three hour league with awesome prizes.
It will run from 10am to 1pm New Zealand time on Sunday (March 25 2011). This is 9pm-midnight UTC on Saturday March 24. Here is a link for more time zone conversions.
The league will be hardcore. Characters who die will be moved out of this league and into the Default league. NEW CHARACTERS MUST BE CREATED IN THIS LEAGUE TO BE ELIGIBLE. After the end of the league, they'll be moved back into the normal Hardcore or Default league depending on whether they died. The league will be open for character creation 30 minutes before the start of the competition.
Prizes: At the end of the tournament, we will award the prizes in the Hardcore league on a character that we add to your account. If you want to transfer these prizes to the Default league, then just kill that character.
Random Currency Prizes: For this competition, we'll be giving the winners a certain number of random currency items from the list below. These are picked with equal weighting using a random generator.
Divine Orb (new prize!) Exalted Orb Regal Orb Gemcutter's Prism Blessed Orb Orb of Regret Orb of Scouring Chaos Orb Orb of Alchemy Glassblower's Bauble Chromatic Orb Orb of Fusing Orb of Chance
Top Prizes:
The top five players of each class by experience will receive prizes.
#1 player of each class: Demigod's Presence (Unique Amulet), 10 random currency items (see above list) #2 player of each class: 8 random currency items #3 player of each class: 6 random currency items #4 player of each class: 4 random currency items #5 player of each class: 2 random currency items
Quest Prizes: The first player to complete each of these quests wins the prize listed. If you're in a party then only one of you will win the prize. The player will be selected randomly.
Normal difficulty Hillock (Twilight Strand): 4 random currency items Normal difficulty Medicine Chest (Tidal Island): 4 random currency items Normal difficulty Fairgraves (Ship Graveyard): 4 random currency items Normal difficulty Deep Dweller (Flooded Depths): 4 random currency items Cruel difficulty Hillock (Twilight Strand): 5 random currency items Cruel difficulty Medicine Chest (Tidal Island): 5 random currency items Cruel difficulty Fairgraves (Ship Graveyard): 5 random currency items Cruel difficulty Deep Dweller (Flooded Depths): 5 random currency items
Full-clear Prizes: The first player to kill all of the monsters in any of the following areas will receive the listed currency items for that area. Note that your minions count as monsters currently, so we strongly recommend avoiding minion builds. If you are in a party, then the player who gets the killing blow on the final monster gets the prize.
Normal difficulty Fetid Pool: 6 random currency items Normal difficulty Old Fields Cave: 6 random currency items Normal difficulty Dread Thicket: 6 random currency items Cruel difficulty Fetid Pool: 8 random currency items Cruel difficulty Old Fields Cave: 8 random currency items Cruel difficulty Dread Thicket: 8 random currency items
Spot Prizes: We'll also distribute some spot prizes randomly after the event to people who reached certain level thresholds. You can be eligible for multiple tiers of spot prizes. Winners of other categories can still win spot prizes.
Level 30+: 6 random currency items (1 person receives this) Level 25+: 5 random currency items (5 people receive this) Level 20+: 4 random currency items (5 people receive this) Level 15+: 3 random currency items (5 people receive this)
Miscellaneous: The game version will be whatever the current 0.9.7 version is (probably 0.9.7d). Please note that because this is a hardcore league, a single death can disqualify you. STASHED ITEMS IN THIS LEAGUE WILL BE LOST
Our decision on the winners is final. Bugs and mistakes will get in the way for many players and this is why we are running an event like this. If you lose your ability to participate due to a bug, please tell us about it and we'll do our best to fix it. We can't change the outcome of the event due to this.
I wouldn't mind getting a group together and making a run at it

Everybody: Now is the time to get excited. Path of Exile will hold a Stress test of the servers for open beta so they will give everyone a possibility to try the game. The game will be downloadeable during friday and the event will start in 4 days and 20 minutes from now! Everybody wanting to try the game can get access and even if you have no account yet, you can create it and get access! During the time there will be 4 ladderraces, so there will be time for trying that out too! Also: 0.9.8 will be out probably shortly before the launch of this stress test. Because of significant balance-changes there will be a move to legacy of all current characters! That and the fact that the test will run on the beta-servers makes it a completely open experience where we betatesters and the public players can join hands and we can probably help pubbers with answers. They are expecting general chat to get flooded so we will probably look at using local chat in towns and whispers to communicate primarily.
Please remember that this is a stress-test and they are guaranteeing lag in some amount and probably some ques for access when they raise the number of servers handling people. Do not expect the game to be perfect and so on and so forth. Servertesting is a step towards open beta and they will use data from this event to decide how they want to procede. Go and show your support by helping them flooding the servers!
There is a link to a FAQ about the weekend here
A few additional points:
Question: How good a computer do I need to run the game? Answer: The real limiter for most machines will be the graphical card. It has to support sharders 3.0 to be able to run the game. If that is completely black talk for you: If your graphical card is over 3 years old you might have trouble. Also be aware that the game is still not completely optimized and it is known for heating the graphical cards. Remember to play with Vsync on or find a fps-limiter.
Question: How do you play the game? Answer: Like Diablo 3. It is pretty simple really. Left click an area without an enemy to move there, left click an enemy to use normal attack on it. use shift if you want to stand still, while attacking. Use your mouse to point, use keyboard 1 to 5 for potions and then you can assign QWERTY and the mouse-bottums to different skills. Sound hard? Believe me, as soon as you have tried it, it gets easy.
This might actually warrent a new topic.
