it looked to me like crimson gems get attack mods, cobalt gems get misc stuff (mana, life, es on hit (hype!)), i wonder what viridian gem mods are. Maybe ranged attack stuff? who knows!

Next OP spec will go for max jewel slots for their OP mirrored jewels. Can't wait to see jewels with rarity. They are basically gonna be additional rings/amulets. Maybe. Who knows.

If you look at http://i.imgur.com/idfAqLH.jpg someone has mocked up the blue circle shown on the duelist area screenshot to the other jewel sockets. Looking at the top right, it appears to cover both the dagger and claw areas, including all 4 notables. This would be INSANELY op. Windripper with dagger poison/multi and claw leech? Fuuuuuuuu

edit: Maybe not Windripper, I think a phys Harbinger would be better since many of the nodes have phys damage.

I'll say that this expansion does seem to feature chaos damage somewhat more than in the past with that gem that converts int in the socketed area to chaos dmg etc.
and the dagger the converts fire to chaos
and the summon chaos golem option

It features a lot of things for summoners, that's for sure. If all comes like it seems right now, it's gonna be so good. First item filter and now no desync, that's huge! And yes, those two things are the most exciting things for me lol.

Desync is gone and we're gonna get Item Filter and new gems, new bosses, new areas, new passive tree. Oh my god, this is like the best expansion ever. So hyped!

Shouldn't we wait to see it live? Many developers have announced awesome netcodes blabla before... Not many have delivered. In theory everything should work... but wait what happens, when thousands of players really stress the servers. If it would have been trivial, it would have been long done.

and apparently there will be an option in the menu to choose which netcode you want to run under. (the old one or this new lockstep one)

If I understand correctly, you can set a threshold (for ping) for where it automatically switches from one system to another.

Even better, they're adding more servers (I know we're getting an East Coat one) so hype!

GGG statements:
With the expansion we are adding a Deterministic Lockstep mode to Path of Exile that will have no desync. Bear in mind that this means that when you click you will have to wait for whatever your ping time is before you start to move or do a skill.

This works the same way as you would see in strategy game like Starcraft or a MOBA like Dota.

Because this requires a fairly low latency to feel good we are still supporting the old mode for high ping players, however, we have a lot of improvements there too.

It's not quite finished yet and we are working out the bugs, but I'm optimisitic that we will be able to get it done before the beta starts, or otherwise a week or so into it.

We are also adding a bunch more servers to new locations in order to reduce latency so expect to see East and West coast of America servers, as well as more locations in Europe like London.

So we haven't actually nailed down the specifics on any of those questions since it's still in development. The threshold is probably going to be something like 150ms, but that is just a default so that the average player who starts the game doesn't have to know about it. You will be able to set the mode in the options if you like.

Eh I think one is right to be suspicious, I am as well. But implying that they somehow tried to announce they have some amazing system is a bit of a stretch, they've been pretty open all along that to fix the desync issue is a really complex problem that they cant just do in some hotfix. Even the post everyone is talking about they say they are just 'quietly optimistic' . If it is a perfect fix or not at least we know they are working on the issue instead of just saying "it's too complicated and requires us to redo everything which is too much effort so we aren't going to do anything".

If desync is fixed though, the only way left to kill us HC players are more 1-shot mechanics ^^ . Can't wait to see what act4 has in that regard -_-

Given how much they added to the skill tree and the potential for ridiculous things there, I think GGG is happy to put out some mobs and mods that will be incredibly rippy. A lot of things are going to be overtuned-- it's going from guys lobbing water balloons at each other to guys launching nukes at each other I predict, until GGG tones it down through the beta.
