With those numbers, Ele Hit is still the strongest single target bow skill, even for a physical build. The DPS number won't represent this, but there is no way the 30% added fire damage from burning arrow can be worth 130-240 base damage. The only advantage Burning Arrow will have is that it will cost about half, but Ele Hit deals 10-60% more damage.
Using a spreadsheet for my CB Ranger, the elemental build would have:
+ Show Spoiler +- 1760 dps with lvl 15 Burning Arrow, excluding chances to ignite (at best another 10% damage)
- 3007 dps with that lvl 15 Ele Hit
- ~1300 dps with new lvl 15 LA
- ~1800 dps with lvl 15 Ice Shot
My phys build would have:
+ Show Spoiler +- 2405 dps with Burning Arrow
- 2761 dps with Ele Hit
- ~1600dps with LA
- ~2180dps with Ice Shot
I think that was level ~62, with 1.5 base speed bows and decent gear.

I haven't learned all the calculations and stuff yet, need to get spreadsheets and things set up for myself.
Yeah Blitz, I know my bow is not good. It was good through cruel but in merci it sucks which is why i've started to look for a good base to invest in. I had a much better phys/aps bow in CB. Even with my slow bow I do almost 2aps on my single target.
Well, for AoE, what is best? And can you and Pwere guide me on what things for bow will work best with ele damage scaling and ele hit/AoE?

I don't know what spreadsheets Pwere has, but I just enjoy theorycrafting and doing math and stuff. Half the fun of playing a game like this is trying to find out the optimal way to play your character.
I'm still trying to figure out what I'm using for AoE still. I haven't been able to pick up a chain to try out lightning arrow+LMP+Chain+LoH yet, but I will post my results when I do.
Right now I'm still using Lightning Arrow with fork, but I finally figured everything out last night after I decided to pick up blood magic. Don't get me started on that nightmare ^_^

I got a deal for my chain, a guy wanted reduced mana so I gave him my level 11ish one for chain. I think LA is better but I'm unsure, it's skewed by my bow being high in lightning damage.
I also enjoy theorycrafting and the like, I have google docs with character plans but I haven't built spreadsheets yet.

You're going to get absolutely wrecked with that build. Just start completely over and think defensively instead of offensively. Your passive tree is mostly about picking up defensive nodes and keystones that define your build. Having zero life nodes is a ticket to disaster.
Point Blank does indeed decrease your long distance damage and I'm pretty sure it scales very poorly so you end up doing substantially less damage if you aren't utilizing it. If you intend to solo then the majority of your fighting will actually benefit from point blank though so it isn't something you should worry about.
Either dig back a few pages or just search through Pwere's posts in this topic and he has posted some Bow Ranger builds.

How much do glassblowers bauble / whetstones / armour scraps go for?
And can someone confirm that life leech with ghost reaver works for witch spells? People on global chat were telling me it doesn't, and I probably was getting trolled

Unless it said so on ghost reaver you shouldnt think otherwise. Just attach a lifeleech support gem to a spell and it should be fine.
Also this is a free game + a lot of people that played d2 from what I remember were a bunch of theives and trolls so you will have a few of them here or a lot rather.. It seems poe's community is a lot more mature more so than most free games.

Welp, finally did it! Solo'd Piety on HC, off to cruel!
I didn't want to read about the fight prior to spoil it but once I found out I could kill the portals and changed my flasks it was quite a bit easier. I almost died at one point to ICE piety, 20hp out of 1000hp. I was freaking out.
Good fight, will go better in the future lol and maybe I'll group it. ~_~

How much armours scrap does it take to get to 20% of each normal/magic/rare item? Are they all just 1%?
And Vaal's Pact, does that mean 100% of the damage you do is instantly added to your life? Or will it still only be max 20% of your max life but rather per second the instance it hits? I dont really get the mechanism.

Holy crap Cruel Vaal does a lot of damage. I got smooshed from 1850hp to 0 with one fire crush thing. I definitely wasn't expecting that. I'm at a loss trying to figure out how to even survive a hit from it.

Also Lightning Arrow LMP Chain is awesome. Highly recommended if you can afford it :0

To anyone who has microtransaction effects: did they just add particle effects to the weapon ones? I don't remember ever seeing them, but now when I hit monsters little colors appear. Kind of cool if they just added them in.

if anyone is interested in grouping, I'll probably kill Merciless Vaal tomorrow, see how scary A3 Merciless is, and try to progress to A3 Docks and start farming there and hopefully start building up a pool of maps
not sure when maps start dropping, but I haven't seen any in A2 Merciless
