I think you are spot on Echelontee, seems reasonable.

Btw there is one Bleed thing that is already good and will be even better next league: Summon Reaper... but much like Snipe it should feel really clunky for clearing. But for Sanctum it's probably the best.

Bleed Corrupting Fever is still an insane mapper. The single target is really, really bad, but maybe with the various gem additions you can force things to work. I league started it a while ago and did really well with it. I think if you avoid taking Essence on atlas, it could be a fine starter. Might need to buy boss carries xD

I'm going to go EA Ballista Champ. I've actually never played this, so it's fresh for me xD Last time I played EA was the self cast days a long time ago, pre re-work

I got the impression you're going to want single target damage for the league mechanic so I'm leery of anything that's pure mapper right now.

If you haven't seen the new atlas tree (it's been updated), they shuffled a lot of things. The +3 essence node is now in narnia on the far left of the tree.

Yes, agree. It's the same for Sanctum. I was so set on playing some ES build, because I wanted that since a long time, but I don't see what build. I only see Whispering Ice (bleh) and Cold DoT. Cold DoT I don't really want to play and the dmg is pretty mid too. Although I would love to play Wintertide Brand, but then the dmg is even worse. My last successful ES build is probably as long ago as the last Bleed build, if not longer.

Yeah, I keep looking at ES every league and just not finding it great. My last one was a CI COC FR Occultist back in 3.16. CaptainLance did a strength/int stacking rf build last league that got to 69k ES using Ivory Tower + Coruscating Elixir, but it's just such a niche version of it.

It feels like life builds got better overall over the last 2 years through all the new mechanics, but ES has mostly stagnated and been left behind. I use it a lot for hybrid builds (Aegis Aurora/Ghost Dance) and a lot of people use EB now because of ridiculous spell mana costs, but pure ES just ain't feeling good these days.

I think you can extend that duration to like the last 6-7 years (edit: I just checked, seems I was wrong. 6 years ago ppl were still crying ES is stronger than Life, it seems "only" 2-4 years). ES was really powerful in the first years of PoE, Shavronne Low Life was super good and expensive. At one point ES was left behind, and that's long ago. I know there always were some builds that worked, for example HoWA.

In fact, even now, with enough currency I would guess pretty much anything can be played as ES, but will it be better? I don't think so.

I just can't get myself up to play POE after having seen POE2 and feeling like it had so much more stuff that I wanted to see in POE. Not sure if it's just me.

I'm the opposite. After watching the POE2 stuff at Exilecon2 I'm not even sure I'd enjoy that game. I know they've couched the hell out of it saying things like they intentionally slowed it down for the previews, but so far it looks clunky like a dark souls game and tediously slow.

Same here, PoE 2 as they have shown it is a game with tons of boss fights and game play wise it looks like they go a bit more towards Ruthless mode, seeing the gold was the first thing that made me think that. Now I know gold is supposed to be more for the campaign and not for the end game. I'm not as married to the every-character-just-goes-really-fast-and-spams-every-ability-while-on-low-hp-no-mana-build playstyle of POE. The skill tree swapping with weapons, the mass skill gem linking they'd been talking about and showcasing since POE2 announcement etc. all give me more excitement about potentially more build options, if nothing else a fresh meta. Even something as bland as moving reservation skills to the spirit resource instead of constantly finding ways of jobbing HP/Mana in order to slam more auras into a build feels like a huge step in a preferred direction. I just can't look at POE1 the same after that.

Also, seemingly no archnemesis.

Yeah, I liked most of those things you mentioned about poe2. Problem was when listening to the poe2 devs talk during some of the sessions it sounded like their desires on how to change the game really conflict with the existing parts I like.

I hear some people saying things like "it'll be like going back to 2010 and you'll get to see poe2 grow like poe1 did," but the problem was a *lot* of people didn't play poe1 in those early days precisely because of the slowness and lack of content. poe2 will at least have more content, but it remains to be seen if the actual gameplay will be enjoyable.

I'm at least going to give it a try when it comes out, but I'm just not optimistic at this point.

On the topic of resources being spread thin: I'm more bothered by the lack of resources directed toward poe1 right now. They have over 100 people working at GGG now, but the poe1 team is something like a dozen people and we hear offhand mentions about how some large thing of the league was done by a single person. The last several leagues have felt pretty stagnate and I feel like that's a major reason. If they're going to keep poe1 going forward, it's time to shift people back. I don't know what they're going to do since they're already so massively behind schedule and beta won't even be for another year. Maybe that means they're anticipating moving people around, maybe that just means another year of stagnation.

Yes, I agree with you completely. This league I give a small pass because right after Exilecon, tired and busy. But if things stay like this all the way until PoE 2 beta, that won't be good at all.

Sadism 80% less duration seems really punishing for a regular build. Maybe fast attacking molten strike with Controlled Blaze? Also amazing for single target with Defiled Forces for bossing

Spellblade seems alright? Could stack with Battlemage I think

Spellblade looks like you have to be making use of both the attack and spell portion for it to ever be worthwhile. When I ran the numbers for a T1 flat elemental in an ignite build, it was marginally better than a typical caster prefix, but you're losing everything a normal support would provide so it's like 30% less damage. It's probably intended to be used with Battlemage somehow, but that archetype has looked clunky in the brief times I've POB'd it.

Sadism is interesting still. For Poison there's the Low Tolerance option where you're just trying to constantly reapply new very fast poisons at like 2100% increased damage (6 medium clusters + mastery).

For ignites I'm not sure - maybe something there with all the fast ignite stuff, but I also feel like you'd want to end up with a fat duration one at the end of the recently window. It's the kind of thing where I could see someone popping like vaal haste and then focus increased ailment duration right at the end of the window, kind of like the old Vaal DD ignite stuff.

Bleed I've been looking at a little in POB with Gladiator. Violent Retaliation has Lucky damage if you've blocked in the past 20 seconds, which in my mind fits perfectly for a Volatility + Ryslatha's combo. I've also been looking at it with Sadism since the big pain point of DoT builds is the ramp and/or waiting. Right now it's looking like it'll be around 1 second duration. Not sure yet if this would actually be better than a Crimson Dance type build, but probably more responsive mapping at least.

Devour numbers seem pretty good to swap in for mapping. Not going to hold a candle to a real support for pure damage, but you usually end up with overkill amounts of damage when mapping anyway.

From the new gems I see that Lightning gems scale really well with Volatility. I think my "dream" of playing an ES build after so long might just happen this league. I have never touched Blade Trap, but from what I see, it's working quite nicely specially Ephemeral Edge. I think I would not go the common route of shooting for non CI Trickster with Power Charges and Chayula's Presence, but instead do something entirely different that I have not seen on PoE ninja.

Basically, stay CI, go Elemental Overload and take Voice of the Storm for lucky non crit dmg. It should be good dmg wise and needs a quite a few less points. Also a lot of maps nerf crit builds so that's one mod less to worry about.

What I like about Blade Trap Trickster is that it should be really tanky and good for the new Sanctum as it has tons of Energy Shield and Evasion. I can't really tell how the dmg will end up as I don't trust PoB withouit knowing what to do to get the real dmg but in the end it should be decent.

I probably should not level like that though... maybe another Trap build with Life/ES mix until lvl 85-90 to minimize respecing, so perhaps Ice Trap or Lightning Trap. I think Ice Trap is doing better dmg though, no? I'd want a trap that does not make bosses a pain, is Seismic Trap still the to go trap then?

is there any way to target farm sanctum, or is it just find them randomly? I think they will be pretty expensive early on, because people will really want to do them, so beware

I think that voice of the storm interaction should be really good. It's a pretty under the radar item, too.

When you mention Ice Trap, I remembered this video lmao



I think Explosive Trap could be reasonable. Seismic Trap seems pretty meh. It has its previous nerfs, and it was hit by the temp chain + ailment focus nerf

Thanks for the info. Yeah Ice Trap can do sick damage, and jungroan did maximize the dmg to the extreme in that video. Explosive Trap looks like a good idea too, the tree used in that video is also similar to what I will want to do in the end game, so not bad. I would play it with a little worse tree so I need to respec less, but would still be quite good.

I know Seismic got nerfed a lot recently and the latest patch once more nerfed the poison version of it, which I believe was considered to be the better version on budget. So perhaps a good idea to stay away from it.

Also do you have any idea how easy it is to farm for Voice of the Storm? I avoided Breach last league, in fact I blocked it. I vastly prefer to play on SSF these days, so in theory it's nice that it drops from a specific mechanic and also from one of the common Breach types.

What do you mean by clunky in regards to Battlemage? I thought it was pretty straight forward. Or are you talking about Fanatism? Without having crunched the numbers, I feel like Spellblade could work well with Battle Mage and/or Shaper of Flames + a spell with high effectiveness of added damage.

Thinking Instruments of War & Instruments of Zeal, specifically. I know there's some edge uses of just Battlemage now with certain uniques, but in the realm of builds that both actively attack and cast things seem to be pretty clunky. The problem I'm running into with Spellblade is that you're giving up both a support gem and at least one prefix, so you have to be somehow making use of the attack mod(s) to come out ahead. It makes sense, it's just doing that is much more niche build-wise.

I don't think there's any way to target farm Sanctum. There's nothing on the atlas, so it's probably similar to harvest memories dropping.
