Blizzard imho doesn't count because they run everything on life support (or sucking the life out of it in the case of SC and WC) except WoW. Lineage 1 and 2 were run at the same time, which worked well as far as I know. Runescape and Old School Runescape as well. Riot is running Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends. So yeah, if a company wants to do it and cares for the games and community, they can handle it imho.
The precedent would be that game companies don't want to release older versions of their game or support them instead of people playing and spending money on the new one. Blizzard tried to murder brood war when sc2 came out. You mention Jagex and runescape, but they had to be dragged kicking and screaming just to release old school, much like classic WoW which has since become a major success. Riot and TFT/League are different genres which compete with each other less so I'm not sure I'd include those in the list.
Maybe GGG starts the next cash crab for every company like remasters/reforged/hd versions of games where they make parallel releases that can better shape up to player expectation. Some of these were good and a lot of them were bad, but you could say the same thing about games and battle royals that was the meta before that or any number of other things.

Kinda hard but it has been such a long wait, I personally don't feel like waiting another year is going to be too hard. Yes it looked amazing and kinda made me want to play it right now, on the other hand I think it's crazy and amazing they have this level of polish one year before the closed beta is supposed to start. Yeah by setting a far enough date they have plenty of time to get this game to a high level of polish hopefully! Looks very good at this stage which is very promising and their presentation very convincing and innovative in some ways.

One of the interviews with staff revealed that only 20 people have been working on poe1 for the past two years as everyone else has been working on poe2. They said that more people are now being moved to poe1 and I get the feeling that it was because they finally realized that they were going to have to push poe2 instead of dropping the closed beta, as rumored it was going to be a "look under your chair for your closed beta key" event.
I'm very sad it looks like it'll be a year still from when I can play in the closed beta but after d4 and other games recently more polish is more. hoping that there will be good leagues until the launch in return for a delay.

NGL I'm getting concerned that I suck too much to enjoy PoE2. It very much looks like they're moving away from the ability to substitute progression for player skill on these boss fights. I'm not good enough at Dark Souls to play Path of Dark Souls xD

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm sure that either the gear the people playing the scripted preview had was subpar, or they were underleveled a bit, to make the fights more cinematic, slow and deliberate. Or the monsters were beefed up too high, for the same effect.

The guy who died on screen wasn't an anomaly they had streamers who play hardcore at the most zoomiest levels of poe1 and even they died in their playthroughs.

Unless they make the game extremely punishing that that is average gear, it will be much easier.
Now, there might be the issue where to make it easier you are forced into certain builds, but we'll just have to see. With how unique they are making weapon types, they have more incentive to make more playstyles viable, or all their work goes to waste.

Haven't watched a PoE race in a minute, excited for it.
*edit* + Show Spoiler +Great finish, but some rough stuff for Havoc.

+ Show Spoiler +tie23 comes out of retirement to win again. The undisputed racing GOAT! I'm glad tytykiller avoided last place at least, I was rooting for him.

Don't forget that generally (as much as they've said so far) additional links don't really add damage, but change behaviours. 1L skill vs skill + fork + blind etc.

That's a good point, but clearly there's a lot of ways that more links, even without direct damage multipliers, would improve combat.
The simplest ways they already showed in game, like increased chance to shock, that chilled ground one. Fist of war, which was mentioned, is clearly more damage. Zizaran finding Spell Echo was huge. Then there's trigger setups which I suspect will be quite useful
I'm more worried about access to support gems and attribute requirements, then whether or not a build of 3L will clear faster and more safely than a build of 1L / 2L

Otherwise I guess gold maybe we'll be able to buy them with.
I think making gold just a thing to smooth out leveling can work. I really really don't want it going into maps or any further though. I like my bartering economy darnit.

That's pretty much how they talked about gold - a low value currency more akin to wisdom scrolls and the expectation you'd still be trading with higher value currencies.

Great stuff at ExileCon. I love the way PoE2 is shaping up.
If you're interested in the engine/graphics side of PoE2, the Rendering PoE presentation was amazing. Most talks were really interesting, and it shows how passionate these guys are.
Can't wait for patch notes, which should be end of next week. Will we finally get meaningful balance changes?
|
I hope they buff some overnerfed builds like archamage and mana builds, melee and slams, most minions build, spellslinger, etc.
This last year they were too conservative with balance changes.

I'm doubtful this would be the league for it. They were already down to a skeleton crew and it was even more all hands on deck for Exilecon. Maybe they'll start shifting more resources toward poe1 at some point, but for now they'll probably keep most of their resources on poe2 since it's so far behind schedule already.

There was word at the con that they've dedicated more people to poe1 now that poe2 is going to be a completely different game and is delayed and that they will start doing dual leagues. Something insane like the last year and half has been done with 20 people.
A new league every one and a half months just seems insane.
|
They've got >100 people now. Once all the new poe2 dev finishes those people will need to be working on something. I definitely can see them just working on a couple leagues for each at the same time and having different groups of people working on each. Basically would have a given team of people with 6+ months to work on a league. They already do this to some extent now, so this is basically a larger-scale version of that.

did anyone play Lightning Arrow Deadeye?
I'm not 100% sure on ascendency node choices. Mainly Ricochet (chain) vs Far Shot. Seems like there's some mixed thought on how good chain is for Vengeant Cascade, while Far Shot has a lot of synergy for it
|
I used ricochet (and endless munitions) for more clearing, but I didn't try far shot, maybe it was better. I though about getting the forbidden flame/flesh and having both nodes, but it was too expensive.
The character was fun, I did all the challenges, leveled up to 100 and crafted my own expensive bow (I usually don't craft too much)
