Alright boys I'm back, just in time for the new league.

Anything thing major was changed/added between August and now ? Any new/rework mechanics/items that I should know about ? Current meta ?

Need to brush up so when I read the patch note soon I won't get lost

Prolly in between 8 and 12 hours from now, but we shall see. I'm almost as excited for the new passive tree though, which is coming the day after. Only then we can really start creating our builds.

What's the go to Spectre now ? Still MagmaOrb Goat ?

Solar Guard or Wicker Man / Tukohama's Vanguard. The former seems to clear faster, the latter has insane boss killing. Also 2x Dyadus for Animated Guardian are a thing so Alurrs memes are mainstream now. <3

I definitely plan on playing Spectres after all these years of not wanting to deal with the shit anymore, hoping the ones above don't get nerfed too hard.

I've made a build that is going to land me in SC, but its fun so going to try it before i swap over to maybe spectres. I feel like they are going to be FOTM and all their gear will be expensive at the start though :|

I figure if i can make 85 with frostblades in mayhem SSF then i can do it in HC though.
That new jewel with ascendant..... i managed to connect to 4 start points without losing any real power, could be good.

I didn't notice the nerfs to Slayer, since those were edited in after I first saw the manifesto. They nerf its leech (and nearby nodes) but with the new VP being down there now will Slayer+VP be at a similar level to 3.0 Slayer? Or is it straight up going to be worse?

I know it's rather worth waiting for the full patch notes and buffs but some sort of Slayer build was near the top of my short list for mentally planning next league, and if they're going to be markedly worse it'd help me decide a lot quicker lol.

Well, the manifesto didn't even 100% clear up what precisely Vaal Pact is going to say post-patch, but I'm going to assume it's still what they spoiled "double max leech rate, double leech speed". It seems likely that slayer + VP now will leech significantly faster than 3.0 slayer, but i find it hard to overstate how relevant losing all your regen is. I hate playing regen-less builds personally, even with life flasks. Lab/trials are so onerous.

Base leech cap is 20% of your max life per second. Slayer took that to 30%. Vitality void is an additional 5%, with Hematophagy being another 3 and 5% (8 total). However, I'm not convinced that many slayers bothered with more than (at most) Vitality Void. As such, you can say that most slayers were leeching about 35% of their max life per second (potentially further scaled by modifiers such as "increased life recovery" from soul of arakaali which won't affect the math here). Best case scenario with hematophagy as well ended up at 43%.

The new slayer doesn't change the cap at all. With vaal pact and Vitality Void we get to 46% of your max life per second. If hematophagy still has 2 3% nodes, then you can reach 58% now, which is quite high and it's not really like vitality void + hematophagy are that many points total.

The thing is, slayer really didn't need faster leech before. Now, you kinda have to take vaal pact to make the leeching good on slayer, and once you do that you just lost all your regen which was the whole point of slayer (having useable leech without removing your regen).

It's now even harder to be a leech build without sacrificing your ability to regen. And if you do sacrifice your ability to regen, you don't get the old benefits. I have no desire to be leech based next league (although new vaal pact should work with ES).

Yeah that makes sense. With the all the buzz around VP changes I forgot it will probably still read no regen. I'll probably stick to gladiator for melee then; had great luck last league with Slayer Cyclone but wasn't sure whether or not to try it again (at least as an ez starter to farm a bit).

The funny part is, you'd almost think that this introduces variation in leech builds because you don't have to be slayer to have useable leech rate now, but it really doesn't since slayer (and scion slayer) is still the only way to prevent leech ending immediately on reaching full HP which is an incredibly crucial mod when you cannot regen HP. Especially since you need a bunch of leech stacks to actually heal near the cap, so if you for example instant pot while hitting a boss you could remove all your leech instances and start healing much much slower.

Conceptually, I think that the removal of old vaal pact was probably necessary. However, I think that they should be buffing leech in general now that the abuse case is gone, not nerfing all the other ways to leech as well.

Hmm, 3.1 troll patchnotes (fed through a markov generator) are out. Doesn't tell you what the changes will be per se, but does include the text "Wickerman Righteous Fire damage..." which is a pretty clear indicator those spectres will be getting a nerf (otherwise why would wickerman ever be mentioned?)

I still don't understand why leech stops on full life. Or life/mana flasks for that matter.

Set a buffer cap at 5s or 100%HP so Slayer is the only one to heal for the entire map, but leech is less random for everyone anyway.

That said, I'm not sure I agree with this trade API dmg nerf. Was the API really the problem or the way you increased its endgame?

No mention for Solar Guard or Vanguards in that one, I'd be surprised if those stay untouched.

Tbh if e.g. Wicker Man gets nerfed in the 10-15% range that'd be reasonable. But then we also all know that GGG hates Spectres so we'll see.

There's a "Reduced the amount of burning damage dealt by" snippet that people are guessing is going to be Tukohama's Vanguards, since there are very few player-cast skills that snippet would make any sense for.
