I'm 90% I'll open up with a good ol' SWT after my last league start was such a mess.

Then prolly into a lab farmer (could respec the SWT to CI if there's nothing *really* outstanding for speed/safety) or some "real" endgame build. Pretty tempted to try EA as well, especially cause bo1b here always posts the best builds anyway. (<3)

Do we know yet which Essences will stay and which will go/get modified? I doubt stuff like CI ED will ever be as glorious as during Essence between Soul Strike/Decay/Occultist being completely nuts.

exceptionally tight on sockets, quite gear dependent and I don't have a saboteur anywhere near 80 or so to trial so there's a very good chance this doesn't work.

Current thoughts on gem setups are:

Gloves - > coc detonate mines fa shield charge
Boots - > immortal call, increased duration, cwdt, detonate mine
Shield > contagion -> increased aoe -> remote mine
Helm -> aa -> enhance -> temp chains -> enfeeble
Chest - > ed -> pierce -> remote mine - > controlled destruction - > void manip - > empower
Ring - > ice golem/lightning golem
Weapon - > spell totem - > whither -> faster casting

gloves need to have increased crit strike chance from essence/increased attack speed. If you can corrupt an amulet to get +1 curse then witchfire brew is even better.

Possible use of doedres elixir.

The more I look at it the more unnecessary it becomes, however it has potential as an exclusive new hipster build!

I don't like them nerfing essence of woe now, and leaving 1k legacy shit behind. The 5 people or so who lucked into it are now worth infinite money, so grats to them I guess.

this league was actually pretty fun, got to play the most softcore build ever: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1746522/page/1

this build is kind of expensive and you suicide a lot early on, but it's IMO the fastest clearing build in the game, extremely strong. clear T15 maps at extreme speed without fear of death (except vs some ridculous dmg combos). highly recommend for any SC players (though I had to modify the build since this version has probs, the guy thinks attack speed = more cyclone casts)

also got a lot more respect for boss killers especially in the early league. it's not easy, I downed guardians + atziri multiple times, shaper a few times, and even though I had OP chars and gear I failed my first shaper run, died a lot on other stuff. harder than it looks, nice to be able to get practice in without fear of death

back to hardcore next league tho. league starter I think I'm just going to do SRS, with essences staying in should be very easy to get a +2 5L staff. 2nd char will be uber lab farmer but I have no clue what im going to do. if Blade Flurry doesn't get dumped on I think I might try a Blade Flurry jugg with 100% ele conversion, and if it's bad shouldn't be too hard to respec to cookie cutter EQ

It better gets dumped a little, unless GGG decides to buff every other melee skill gem a lot. Because if not, it'll most definitely become the new BV because it's both new and by far the strongest melee skill (even got more ST damage than Earthquake afaik). And yes, things like Reave can get better clear speed but they require much better gear.

If Blade Flurry stays the same I am considering rolling that. First league in a while I haven't had a set build in mind a week before.

Took the 2nd off work anyways, will be there for league start.

I cannot get a poison assassin from my mind :D But I would like to focus on Chaos damage and not physical as high physical weapons cost a lot more.
Would using a bow work?
A CI assassin using Darkscorn bow gives me both phy to chaos conversion and 25% less physical damage received and then I can also use Soul Strike quiver for bonus chaos damage and more ES.
I am not sure what to use as main skill. Caustic Arrow has better builds with Occultist or Scion. Maybe Barrage so to apply many poison stacks fast? Something else? Frenzy and Blood Rage and focus on FCs? poison is 8% of damage done to target, logic says more initial damage means more poison damage. But something with good AoE will be better for clearing packs.
Would Wither totem with Curse on Hit work with this?

A few big poison hits or a huge amount of small poison hits doesn't matter, poison will end up as the same %more damage whichever way you go.

A skill that does less (phys+chaos) DPS won't deal more poison damage by 'stacking fast', it will do less poison DPS, too.

So basically the decision is actually just the same as usual, pick a skill that is strong that you like using, except within the limitation that you can only pick phys skills. (Unless you're doing conversion nonsense, of course.)

Can someone recommend me a build for a newb (hc)?
I played on and off but never got into the endgamestuff.

So far i liked ele-trapper and shocknova, but i might also be interested in som poison/chaosbuild.

If you want an extremely noob friendly build go Ancestral Warchief totems (Slayer/Berserker usually) or Flameblast totems (if crit usually Inquisitor, else probably Chieftain but idk). Explosive Arrow (Berserker/Elementalist) is great too, extremely high life.

if your goal is a strong league starter with a spell like playstyle, I'd recommend flameblast, firestorm, essence drain + contagion (unless poison / ED get nerfed hard) or summon raging spirits.

Some other good options which are a bit harder for first char but still doable would be Vortex (self cast or totem, fire conversion), ancestral warchief facebreaker, Explosive Arrow. Good builds but you need some gear, for vortex you need pyre and AoE gear or the skill feels weird IMO, warchief you really want facebreaker and some good flat damage stuff (steel ring, great old one's ward), which can be expensive early. for Explosive Arrow you really want a 5L quill rain, but otherwise is a fairly cheap and powerful build

My last Char died during a lagspike in the Act 1 dungeon (i had allready cleared all the others ).

There are 6 trials, 1 in Act 1, 2 in Act 2 and 3 in Act 3. After you have completed each of them, you will be able to do the Labyrinth in Act 3. In the last room of that Labyrinth there's an Altar that you need to click, then you can choose from 3 Ascendancys depending on your class. Keep in mind you have to do the trials and the labyrinth for each difficulty (each laby gives you 2 points), but only once per league. So if you play both HC and SC you'll have to do them in both. There's also an Uber Lab from maps later on, so you can get 8 points.

I've been wrestling with what character to make with next league, currently I can't think of a proper reason to not choose ea/essence drain assuming neither is nerfed too heavily next patch. The problem I have with essence drain is I'd like to do a non life based one since I've only ever gone life on it, and to do that requires a bit of starting capital, or getting to dried lake very early, or going shadow and respeccing later on. Neither of which I'm going to do at the start of the league.

On the other hand explosive arrow exists and requires almost no starting capital, progresses smoothly enough to 8k health or so, and requires almost no chaos to get started. Yet it then runs into ignite immune bosses and reflect maps and has a fairly limited amount of movement speed compared to shieldcharge/whirling blades and while 8k life is nice, 13k+ energy shield is absurd.

Between the two the choice is fairly obvious, I make an explosive arrow guy, hit 80 or so relatively quickly and then make an occultist for my essence drainer. Except there's almost no point in doing that, since neither essence drain nor explosive arrow is a top tier build (very, very good still), so if I was to make an ea character to farm up some currency, why not just farm enough for cospris discharge or something?

Tl;dr the gap between cospris discharge and the next few is absurd and kind of undermines the purpose of wondering what the next build to go is (assuming you go for choosing a better build, not necessarily more fun, just higher performing).

Speaking of essence drain, I'm thinking of something like this when I have some cash to spend.
