So, new player question.
I'm going for "Have as many minions out at a time as possible." I don't know if that's "late game" viable or whatever, but I wanted to collect some thoughts about what I can do after I fill up every minion passive and every skill duration passive (for skeletons, etc.)
Tree.
Edit: Apparently that's an old tree. I'll try to update with something newer soon. Edit 2: Got it.

Edit: Apparently that's an old tree. I'll try to update with something newer soon. Edit 2: Got it. Well... you didn't ask about viability, so I'll skip that. To answer your specific question, once you have filled up every minion passive focus on bettering your own survival and buffing your minions through other means. Try coupling your Summon Skeletons with a Spell Totem, though your increased skill duration passives will only work on the totem. Make sure your minion resists are maxed. Use jewels to pump you minion stats up, Catarina has mods available for minions (2 for chest and 2 for gloves), run auras (some with Generosity), Flesh/Bone Offerings, Convocation, Desecrate, Vaal Summon Skeletons, and curses. Get a +2 level to minion gems helmet (helmets have good minion upgrades from Merciless Lab, but with so many it's hard to get them). In rare instances you can get implicit mods for minions by vaaling items, but don't do that; it's too rare. You can get a health flask mod that heals your minions for a portion of the flask's effect. There are a number of uniques specifically for summoners, I'll let you sift through some of them and figure which is worth using: + Show Spoiler +Midnight Bargain Mon'Tregul's Grasp Matua Tupuna Bones of Ullr Vis Mortis Queen's Decree Sidhebreath Skullhead Brinerot Mark Heartbound Loop Mutewind Seal Redblade Band Clayshaper Chober Chaber Femurs of the Saints Null's Inclination

It's pretty obvious that I'm more of a casual player than most of you, and for players like me, it's really nice how much more accessible important pieces of gear are in this league. Heck, in most temp leagues I've played I'm still climbing the middle map tiers as leagues reach the point where they are hemorrhaging players and the economy dies. Only on standard where I don't have to restart leveling and gear accumulation do I really get to experience the endgame content.

Hey all,
Brand new player here (just a few hours into my first character, a Witch), and I'm really excited to play because I loved Diablo 1 and 2 (spent years and years playing them, especially LoD). I felt really let down by D3, but between reading through online PoE info, watching videos, and playing the game, I'm optimistic that I'll enjoy PoE
Given my irl time constraints and desire to not be super tryhard at a game for once, I'm looking to try out some fun, casual builds that are viable enough to get me through a simple playthrough. I'm not worried about godly tier anything or hyper-optimization... I just want to get a solid feel for the game and the gameplay.
With my Witch, based on the passive skill tree (forest? Christ that thing is huge!) and some of the spells I've tried out, I'd like to make a hybrid cold + minion/ summoner build. It also pays homage to my D2 sorc and necro Are there any rules of thumb/ guidelines/ beginner's notes you could offer? Thanks

Get some life for yourself. Most beginners don't skill life and get rekt in cruel with 600 hp. Although it might not be much of a prolem for you if you are going minions. I would still aim for 100-150 % life by the time your build is finished. Having 1-2k life in normal and 2-3k life in cruel should be safe, especially for a summoner (and I guess softcore?). Minions are rather slow in the beginning but pretty safe to play and easy to gear for a simple playthrough. Zombies are pretty good.
For your equip, get life on it as well as elemental res. Capping your res at 75 is important just like, or even more than, in d2. There are helmets with +1/+2 to minion gems, which could be nice.
Don't go for too many different skills. Focus on one or two minion skills and support them with curses, auras and offerings. Adding another cold spell might not help much. Just takes away from your minion damage and there is enough to cast all the time anyways afaik.

Well, to level up it is probably going to be easier to focus on spells, as it is very simple to scale spell damage. You get yourself some sort of 3-linked item (either buy a lifesprig for a couple chaos orbs or you can get a quartz scepter and craft +1 gems to it - do this by making the scepter magic quality, then selling it, an alteration orb, and a resistance ring to a vendor (fire ring = +1 fire gems, saphire = cold gems, topaz = lightning gem). As for summoner there are many good uniques that are quite cheap for summoners, but as I said I would suggest focusing on spells and go from there once you reach level 60-70 (merciless dried lake).
Also, we have a TL guild in game if you are interested, just give your character name in the thread or PM it to me and I can invite if you would like. It is a good place to ask questions and get some help!
--------Unrelated Question - Crafting Help Needed!------------
So, with my dapper prodigy turn in I got this 6L item. Been trying to craft it and I managed to roll this through alt, aug, regaling. I beleive it is 3 tier 1 rolls. Anyone who has crafted a lot can give an opinion on how to proceed with this, or if I just roll over it since I didn't hit a life roll?

Is there a reason you're crafting a hybrid base? Unless your build is specifically hybrid I'd suggest crafting something else.
Also think you should be alting until you end up with Life/Resist, but you could exalt it and get lucky I suppose. Regaling a second resist is ideal, but if you end up with a great tier 1 prefix then I would consider keeping it.

his div card turn-in gave a hybrid base
hate to say it, but i would say roll over and get life. life is the most important stat.

I'm suggesting he sells that and buys a better base. If you're dropping exalts on crafting something you should probably start with an optimal item.

You can't make a build that avoids life and ES as much as that unless you plan on dying several times a zone in Merciless difficulty. Even as a summoner. :/

To give a bit of an additional perspective, 180%+ Life is reasonable for HC and even in SC I wouldn't go below 140%ish.
As a summoner you would rely on your minions to do most of the stuff while you sit behind them and support with curses and auras. No need to scale your own damage.
...also I'd recommend joining the guild sooner rather than later just so WaveOfShadow feels better that you have a place to ask all the small and painful questions. <3

For each new character I make, does he/ she have to separately be invited into the guild? Or will all my characters be a part of the TL guild once I get the invite on DPW?

That's what I meant with taking life for yourself.^^ Try this:
https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAABAMAAAQHBLMGSQj0CaoQWBCXEQ8RLRNsFm8XVBpsHNwigSL0JKomlSj6KpgsnDLRNuk6WEGHRAREq0VHRXxFnUwtTLNNuVBCUXRTNVNSU9RUR1VLVa5VxlZKWpFd8mHiakNqrGvbbAttGXyDfRh-x3_GghCCm4LHg9uFYIhAi4yMNo2CjjyO6Y8aj6aQM5Mnl5eaO5rgna6eoZ7EnwGiAKKjppmmrKa-pwiofarErJivm7Q4tz64k7zqv5fAVMBmwJrJPcy80eTT-9Wm2L3ZC9n837Dhc-Nq5Rnli-vu7IrtPPAf8h731_nb-d356PqA-_X-Cg==
I fixed a few pathing issues, removed a few bad damage nodes as well as a few clusters to get some life in exchange. I tried to leave the tree the way you did it as much as I could. It's a lot of points though and leveling into the 90s takes a lot of time, although not nearly as much as d2 currently.
