<<start as averginon. an OPM theocracy in the middle of... FRANCE. Basically, once France starts annexing all of its vassals its game over for me. Fortunately Provence (who starts the game PUd to Naples) ended its PU and lost its northern province to Brittany, allowing me to quickly double in size in a super rich province. Here's my problems, though- As a Theocracy, the only government change I can make is to an Absolute Monarchy (which lowers stability by 10 (lol)). This means that to change governments, I need to have Government Tech 27. I am surrounded by France or HRE provinces with no casus belli. Also, Burgundy. Provence, the port I just took, doesn't core for 50 years. I'm not eligible for HRE because I am a Theocracy. Basically being Averignon sucks. Fortunately, I somehow manage to ally with Savoy. When Pisa defects away from Savoy, for some reason I become the alliance leader and get a free annex on Pisa. Then Castille offers me an alliance. With Castille, Savoy, and Milan allied, I declare war on France and grab two rich provinces and cancel a lot of the vassalizations. Burgundy and England proceed to pick away at France, leaving them with 3 scattered provinces and a handful of OPMs. I use spies to get the other same culture provinces to defect to me, and war Burgundy, making them release some nations and breaking their grip on France. I grab Liguria from Genoa and do some more fucking around in Italy, and end up with about 7 provinces but more importantly a huge fucking tech advantage (because I only have very wealthy provinces). I get Charge Infantry at tech 23 and after an alliance call from Hungary just as it gets swallowed up by HRE Bohemia, and proceed to utterly annihilate the Bohemians, forcing them to release Hungary while throwing spies fucking everywhere. Within 5 years Bohemia is reduced to its original cores and Poland/Ukraine/Hungary all reform. Finally I hit 27 and get Absolute Monarchy and pump stability for a bit, meanwhile vassalizing a few electors so I can be HRE. Get Imperial Ban casus belli, proceed to run around bonking people, get into a fight with Austria, beat them off (my 100% military tradition and my 6/6/6/4 generals absolutely slaughtered them), now with nobody able to stop me I force Castille into a PU. And that's where I stand now in 1700ish. edit: now have pu with great britain as well. inherited hre. thanks austria for the 5000 random provinces in middle of asia. stand to inherit castille after this monarch. life is good. | ||

Also, in your place I'd have probably relocated to italy or germany, culture shifted, and then abused the hell out of spies. | ||

Most likely what happened is that combined with the huge stability hit you take from becoming an empire, you have super high war exhaustion when fighting against France. This is most likely due to you having a huge stack of troops and getting absolutely wasted by attrition. That or you're getting blockaded. This means your revolt risk is very high, thus you will get many revolts for quite some time. That or you got overextension, which is also bad. Try not to expand too fast, or else you get hit by mass revolts. Although if you are going for the WC, you're going to get mass revolts anyways, so might as well. | ||

How the fuck do you deal with Hordes? They just have so many fucking units. Am I supposed to just out tech them over like 100 years and then wipe them out? I tech so slow that just doesn't work. | ||

Just scorch the earth and let their giant cavalry doomstacks attrition down before wiping them out, force concedes, etc. I've never had a problem dealing with Hordes. Whenever their leader dies, they have a succession crisis (read: mass pretender stacks everywhere) so you just have to hold out until then, really. | ||

Put all your units in one stack, let the AI suffer attrition, and pounce on stacks that are worn down and recently assaulted forts. | ||

For instance when I was playing Switzerland against mass French cavalry doomstacks, I had my 20 stack of infantry in a mountain province where a 50 stack cavalry unit attacked. The cavalry unit got decimated, losing like 15000 to 3000. However, despite having them on the run, do not fucking chase them. What would have happened would have been the 30 stack of cavalry, now the defender, and on plains no less, would have stomped my infantry army silly. It's because defender gets a huge bonus from terrain, and on top of that cavalry get penalties from mountains. Meanwhile, I made amphibious landings (from my American holdings) to the north of France, and with the bulk of the enemy troops trying to break into my mountain strongholds I was able to send 50,000 infantry to their deaths-I mean, storm Ile de France and force a peace. A lot of the game is about maneuvering. | ||

 .I think you basically have to colonise as much of america as possible and at first ally with the biggest colonising european power to westernise... From there it's probably pretty "standard"? | ||

what i did was basically, colonise the taiwan and kuril islands, then went around the africa, declared war on morocco took 1 province from them that bordered castille, was pretty easy westerization after that, though i have to admit that i didn't really play much longer after that, game got a bit boring for me  but juggling the early colonization was quite interesting | ||

I go to war against Orleans with a Reconquest CB, I lose absolutely no stability or anything. Suddenly, fucking Savoy comes into the war when they weren't even an ally of them and then chain alliances take into effect. Since Savoy declares on me, suddenly Austria, England, and Castille all get "dishonorable" since they don't join in even though I didn't want them to fucking come in. Then Burgundy comes into the war. Then England. My stack of 22k over 11 years kills over 300k soldiers from England alone, and about 120k from Burgundy. I deal with Burgundy with a simple concede defeat about 7 years in, and as soon as I manage to get a white peace from England after killing their fucking army 80000 times over, fucking Burgundy comes in again with two stacks of 25 troops. Fucking ffffffffffffffffffffffffff Perhaps I should turn off High Aggression...but I've had a much easier time with the likes of conquering as Bavaria or Athens or something than this shit. | ||
