Also, as a new player I can execute a good amount of combos in training mode but when I play vs a real opponent I struggle to do even the most basic ones. Any advice how to overcome this? Do I need to just mass games?

Do I need to just mass games? If you're having trouble hitconfirming, what you can do in training mode is set the dummy to random block and try to work on hitconfirming there. In a real match, think about the combo that you want to do, and go in with the goal of actively looking to land it. It's much like learning to anti-air. Saying that "you know" you need to anti-air jumpins and actually concentrating on doing so until it becomes second nature are very different things. You'll get better at it over time, but it helps a ton if you're concentrating on it.

Do I need to just mass games? I speak from the HEART regarding this because I love training mode. ![]() If you can't execute a specific combo at least 95% of the time in training mode, you won't be able to reliably execute the combo in a real match. Some players go to the extreme. Juicebox (famous Abel player) wrote that he practices combos where he won't quit training mode unless he's able to perform a specific combo thirty times in a row. Abel has this notoriously difficult combo and I never seen Juicebox drop it in matches. I actually had to give up my first main character, Rufus, because I just could not master his st. LK to st. HP link. I can get a "groove" and get it 10 times in a row, but I never can get it over 80% in training mode. In a real match, I never reliably got it and my Rufus was terrible as a result.

In SSF4 you could execute it at any height, but in SSF4AE they added a height restriction for non-EX cannon strikes. You need to be at about shoulder-level to be able to cannon strike now. EX cannon strike can still be done at any height.

What you have to do is basically do the joystick/dpad part of a special input, then jump, and then press the required buttons. So for a TK cannon spike you'd basically do: down, down-back, back, up + KK

For example I know there are a series of tournies included in the EVO 2011 Tornament season including East Coast Throwdown 3, Shadowloo Showdown, CEO 2011, and Norcal Regionals 9. However if you go to http://evo2k.com/, it doesn't link you to any of the above mentioned tournaments (as far as I could find). In addition, each event has their own website which is often not updated with results/VODs/standings. For ECT 3, they don't even have their VODs up but luckily I found them on justin.tv. For Shadowloo Showdown, they have the results posted but not links to the VODs. I searched for them separately on youtube. CEO's VODs were up on TeamSpooky's channel. As linked above, NCR9's VODs are up on iplaywinners channel. If the information for everything was organized in one thread (maybe I'm missing it somewhere on SRK), it would be a lot easier to browse through. woops didn't realize NCR9 was over lol
